  1. No one on an Internet forum ever made me more or less ambitious/optimistic about anything but a few have made me suicidally depressed. If you can't keep a sense of perspective but still dream, you're not a football fan, you're an idiot.
  2. Wise up??? My friend I have travelled this globe of ours and if there is a bigger sh!thole I have yet to see it. And I have been to Calcutta...
  3. Have any of these people who think Adam will go to Middlesborough actually been there? I would rather work for nothing in Southampton than a 100k a week in Middlesborough.
  4. I have never met a Christian with a bad word to say about Christ.
  5. Big Flaws in our our team in all areas?? Christ, I'd like to know how we would be doing if they were fixed... What comes after winning? Super winning? Double winning? Hyper-winning? When does the extra point kick in. Bloody hell, I go away on a project for a few days and the rules change again? Have we got video refs and binned the off-side rule yet...
  6. Hahahahah. Edinburgh is where they do comedy friend, not Wiltshire
  7. I thought that was a poor effort at first but when I saw the replay later maybe he was a bit unsighted? Either way, it ended up being a goal!!
  8. Agreed, the penalty was just very unfortunate. It hardly ever rebounds to the taker!! I think the second bounced badly in front of him but, that being the case, I think he could have parried it better if he didn't fancy his chances of catching it.
  9. Keegan's team conceded four more goals than United and scored seven less. The following year they conceded four fewer goals than United. But everyone thinks of that game against Liverpool. It is a travesty and one, as you can tell, I feel strongly about. People should be judged on their record not on their media profile and one incredible game, or being slumped over the advertising hoarding... Manchester United won the league because they scored more AND conceded fewer goals than Keegan's team. They did not win the league because Keegan sacrificed all in the desire to win every game 6-5. Nothing could be further from the truth.
  10. I am bored of asking people to check Keegan's defensive record at Newcastle but please do. I can tell you if you want.
  11. This is a criticism I would level at Davis and EVERY other goalkeeper in every team. For some reason - and it must be to do with coaching or the new balls - keepers rarely attempt to catch the ball. In my day you cupped your hands around the ball and caught it in your chest - thus reducing the opportunity for precisely what happened on Saturday. If a keeper is going to parry, the key must be to parry with distance. However, given that we conceded two goals to errors, I'm finding it hard to blame the manager or the formation. I fear our love affair with Kelvin makes him immune from criticism and sends it elsewhere...
  12. I really thought, really did, that people could handle wining a few games at this club, but like the players that winning mentality takes time to build. Win three games and suddenly we're world beaters. Lose one then draw one and we're destined never to see the end of the tunnel again. The bald facts are that our manager (who I do hate to remind people, but they seem lost in a den of woe or euphoria) has now had 17 games and the sum total of three months at our club. During which we've rebuilt a team So much so, that only two players who were here when he arrived finished yesterday's game. I'll say that again TWO PLAYERS. So, that's (help me here I'm never good with numbers...) is that er NINE new players??? Oh yes, maybe it is. And here we are, real world, 6 points off the play-offs. League position 16 points off the play-offs. The usual doom mongers will claim all of this is an excuse, that it is perfectly feasible to win games from day one, with the same players who were relegated eight weeks earlier and then win the league at a canter. (Regardless of who the manager, coaching staff or players are - you wonder then why they don't start their own team and storm to the Champion's League given that they are such genuii). Well, frankly if that's what they believe, they're welcome to their world and I trust they are not too disappointed when a fat man in a red suit doesn't slide down their chimney this Christmas Eve... As for me, I have every faith we will be promoted. Sixteen points is nothing over 29 games. And if we're not, while I'll be mighty disappointed, that's football.
  13. 23 points, we would be in 11th with no pre-season. Yeah, very poor and a really good time to judge after 17 games...
  14. Irrespective of the wrist-slitting, there is no denying our defence is a problem. 7 goals conceded in 3 games is not good. Kelvin does not look the same confident keeper he was last year, bizarrely. Trottman has had two poor games now, Jaidi is no spring chicken and Harding and James are often exposed. I think this week needs to be defence week. Work out the best back five quick. For me: Thomas Trottman Jaidi Harding And Kelvin - although Bart must now be snapping at his heels after a good game in the cup.
  15. 29 games and a 16 point deficit to make up? I haven't given up hope by any means. Today we drew with a team at the top of their game thanks to a couple of individual errors. Sure 2 points in 9 isn't great, but Murty is fit, Connolly is getting fitter and perhaps with Thomas back for Trottman, who knows. Oh and maybe go back to 4-5-1. That was working well, I wonder why we changed it...
  16. Agreed for any player but that is not the point being made.
  17. This is a big issue for me. What do you want? Lallana to create and score goals and be instrumental in us winning games? Or do you want him on the bench because he isn't always as disciplined as he should be? And then lose because we don't create anything...
  18. Careful, the last man who used this phrase publically was punished very severely, so severely in fact he was made to manage Southampton...
  19. I thought of you when I read that...
  20. Regardless - if Trottman stays goal side, he cannot score. Cannot. To blame Lallana you might as well blame whoever kicked off...
  21. Do we have the most perceptive manager in the league? http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1880511,00.html OK, I don't want to be sycophantic here, but I am continually impressed by how Pardew sees and calls games. Everything about his analysis is reflected in the site by astute observers. A far cry from some previous managers' comments...
  22. Totally. While he is right - the Irish could/should have been clear, he just wants to put one over on the people he blames for ending his international career!
  23. Lol - was that the equivalent of handball??!
  24. I don't disagree with your sentiment. However, as someone who sat in the job FIFA are trying to do, it is nigh on impossible to balance all the needs of those involved. Alpine's assertion that the idea of the World Cup is so that even the tiniest nation can play on the world stage isn't right. The World Cup is designed to identify the best footballing nation on earth - it grew (without the FA) from this basic premise. Who should be seeded and when is an argument I have no answer to. All I can say is that, despite your (and maybe even my) desire to see Wycombe play Arsenal in the Cup Final is it a disaster for the governing body who will make their real income by selling the rights to China and India... I am not saying that how governing bodies make their money and distribute it is right/wrong or whatever - it just is. And given that it is, you can understand FIFA's position.
