Yep I'd agree with all of that.

Winning games when we don't perform brilliantly
Legod Third Coming replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
While I don't disagree, do not take that man seriously. Ian Darke is a Pompey fan. (Who was married to my old school secretary and who I once lectured at a cricket dinner about his lifelong mistake of supporting the wrong team in Hampshire... to be fair at the time Pompey were shyte and we were in the rarified air of the Premeirship...) -
I've never felt a need not to feel sorry for all the German dead. They didn't choose to get mown down by our machine guns either. The sadness is that any war is necessary. You will notice how many politicians are dying in Afghanistan... oh no wait, they're at home in bed tonight while 18 year old lads from Bootle are being blown sky high and having their limbs torn off... I believe you will find it was the same in all the other wars. I'm glad Carlo wears a poppy, everyone everywhere should to recognise the fallacy of war and to work towards a more peaceful existence.

Attendance against Charlton in the JPT
Legod Third Coming replied to Footballfan's topic in The Saints
Somewhere between the two -
Right, so they want a minimum of 15k as opposed to the 5-8k that selling 15 shirts to the public at £500 a pop might raise... Not being funny, but most people put a £1 into a tin and buy a plastic poppy. We have a way to get them £5-8k extra (and on top of the £1 we'll assume all decent fans put in their tins) and they won't do it... Seems incredible and stupid. And typical of the way this country is now run if it's true. I am sure the club would also contribute but 15k?? That's just ridiculous.

Northwich at home please...

No, no. No need to invite bad luck!!!!

I think we will buy both. Trottman is a good player but bear in mind Thomas did an equally good job against Bristol Rovers - the goals were nothing to do with him. Antonio looks like he is surplus to requirements at Reading. Rogers must be driving their fans to distraction. They can't score, can't win at home and he loans out a bloke who makes one and scores one and has pace to burn, oh and a good first touch... While I understand your concerns, the reality is you'd never heard of Trottman or Antonio before they rocked up at our place so I have every faith the management are on top of this situation. Especially, when you consider that they are aiming for promotion. Why would they do anything to undermine this???
-
I actually agree with you. Complacency is all we have to fear this season, because we have the manager and more importantly the quality of players to fear absolutely noone. We might lose through bad luck. But we should not be outplayed unless we don't turn up. However, to take turning up for granted is the first sign of complacency. I have said it before, I will say it now. Our only objective is to win the next game.

Wasn't Carlos Tevez on loan everywhere he played???

Ah, the popular Keegan only attacked misconception. Newcastle conceded 37 goals when they finished second to Manchester United, second only to United's 35. They scored 66 to United's 73. The following season Newcastle conceded 40 goals to United's 44 - again finishing second and first respectively. I say this not to pick on your point (becasue I do agree with you) but because I am a Champion of Kevin Keegan who is totally maligned in this regard that he was an all out attacking manager. Yes, his teams played attractive football. That was not, however, at the expense of a tight defence.

Then you are in good company. Because any such criticism has been shown to be extremely premature thus far. Although time will tell of course...

Rovers (2) Vs Saints (3) Post match chat

Pricelss. how many goals did Lambert score last night? -
No one would argue we made a slow start. The point is that people: a) blame the manager for this. He accepted no blame. b) were questioning his ability during this period. There is a huge difference betweem making a slow start and underperforming. You seem to pretend that he blames himself for underachieving during that period, whereas many of us believe that a slow start was inevitable because of the quality of the squad and the necessity to rebuild it. I suspect Pardew falls into the latter categpry although he may come out and accept that he was doing a bad job and then started doing a good one, you never know...
-
Let's wait and see... apparently he fell out with the boss so who knows what might happen...
-
Not true. No one argues we did not win, unless they are idiots. He did not say our start was quite slow because I was underperforming as a manager. That is what many asserted at the time. That is what many of us disagree with. Should he have said, we started slowly because I inherited the dreggs of the barrel, left over from the previous regime scraping the bottom of it?? He merely stated the truth. We started slowly. So did the tortoise. How is the hare doing in that race, by the way?

Maybe Formation is Irrelevant?
Legod Third Coming replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
I still think we will. -
You could also relieve me of Mrs Legod...
-
We thought is was moving from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 that meant we were 'rescuing' games. Perhaps the formation is neither here nor there, after last night. Perhaps we just come on strong late in games because that's how we are? Fitter maybe? Or we just take time to get going?? Anyone worked out how many goals we are actually scoing from 50mins +???

Spoken as a man who has clearly not met Mrs Legod Third Coming...

I kinda disagree with your last bit. I bid on several of the Poppy shirts over the years. I didn't buy any (was always outbid) but it helped put money into the Legion which I am all in favour of. Overall though, you have a good point. This country has gone sentimental mad as a reflection of the media/celebrity culture. There is some perverse enjoyment in morbid celebration it seems. And sadly, it detracts from genuine opportunities to reflect such as Armastice/Remembrance Day and the passing of genuine club servants and fans (not just ours, any club). Armastice Day is an opportunity to stop and think not just about all those who made a sacrifice for us, and who continue to do so, but about the pointlessness of World War I in particular, to remind us to be wary of ever making the same mistake again. If we demean this by donning black armbands at the drop of a hat elsewhere, it is even more tragic. There was always be death. It is inevitable. We should be selective about those things we mark because by marking them all, we undermine them all. (Spoken as someone who support the Royal Star and Garter Home all year round not just in November). On an associated point, it would be incredible if the Legion require us to pay them to embroider Poppies on shirts that we can then sell to raise money for their charity... need them to come to their senses quick on that!

No, no, no. Now my missus has given my a handful of jobs to do... I was going to nip out and hope she didn't notice that we played last night. And then she catches the result on Sky... bugger! Saturdays are meant for football, not cutting the fecking Pampas grass...

The big challenge in the league is hoping that those other clubs lose their form and we don't...
