  1. I recall Lawrie McMenemy fielded Forbes Phillipson-Masters for a while in the late 70's, but had to drop him because he couldn't pronounce his name in interviews...
  2. .think the majority of the media would agree with that statement, but I wonder what would they say if Ronald K. was up for the job in 2017......?
  3. was just about to write the same thing.. .....Chelsea would never have considered letting Cech go if they hadn't had such an excellent replacement......good goalies with international experience are at a premium.
  4. just another pathetic rumour to try and jack up the price.....? Typical journo cr*p.
  5. first signing of the summer......just juan-derful !
  6. yes it is. Provided thay don't get so hot they blow a fuse, it can be quite enlightening ....
  7. Ah..... but you haven't been listening to Roy. He said ." having a good season is no guarantee of a first team place for the international side....." so he chose a team that had a mediocre season instead. He should be glad that Jack Wilshere put ona good show ......... for once.
  8. well done, sotonist ........I thought we'd seen the last of the current crop of electrifying puns........
  9. ......and with Liverpool and Stoke - don't forget.....
  10. OUCH ! now now "9"...let's be grateful that we do get some talent emerging from the Academy..along with Surman, Dyer, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaw, Targett and JWP but of course you're right. We've wasted decades on talented 14 years old who eventually ended up working on a building site and playing Parks football at weekends. perhaps we shouldn't even be discussing this young Spark, he's sure to be a waste of space anyway.........
  11. ..right ....WAG gossip is more dependable than the jungle telegraph.....or even the Telegraph, when it comes to reliable info.
  12. I haven't heard that Clyne criticised Hodgson, but I did read that RH got a lot of media grief from fans worldwide because of his original selection.
  13. I meant that he was lucky to get the two chances, considering his abysmal first half.... but I agree... his goals were really great finishes. It was Lallana's work to create those chances that I really commented on.
  14. WOW ! ....an 18 year old CB ....from Charlton......he surely has to be better than Lovren......don't you think ?.
  15. .......and let's not forget Owen's " Latvian clone " ....Marian Pahars.....
  16. ...at last Jack Wilshere got some luck, but after a dismal firsat half, it took Adam Lallana's hard work to create the chances that gave Jack those two goals.
  17. ....AND by the same logic....Arsenal's "part-time LB" Gibbs.... MUST be better than Ryan Bertrand .. you're a joke Roy. Just be thankful that England won that game..
  18. yes they were....last season, but with just 3 exceptions, yesterday's starting side included players from clubs who had qualified for CL next season.
  19. at last ........Andy Townsend managed to convince people that Wilshere was MoM ....for once. Every game, I've seen/heard with AT as " expert commentator ", he's bigged-up Jack so much I was sure they were in love.....
  20. well ...I certainly NOT ITK, but my take on these would be ; Gaston....probably had a good season the year before and being fairly young-ish, we thought he would fit into with the up-and-coming post-Academy generation . He was surely over-rated (and TBF we don't know for who else had even made a proper bid for him)...plus in one interview he expressed shock at the huge salary we agreed, and it was an offer he simply couldn't refuse. In the end; he showed few flashes of brilliance, rarely got the nod ahead of Lallana, seemed injury-prone and almost never managed a full 90 mins.- whenever he was selected to start. I'd also add that (well-worn phrase - failed to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League) in other words - wasn't tough enough to ride a tackle. Bottom line; a costly mistake, who should never have been signed, and certainly not at that fee and salary. Osvaldo: A former Pochettino player whom he adored, but who had an atrocious record of bad behaviour both on-and-off the pitch, which we chose to ignore. MP must have thought that he could "tame the beast" , but clearly he didn't know him as well as he thought. IF he was selected via the " Black Box " ....then they ought to junk the whole thing now and buy a new laptop installed with Football Manager 2016. I just think Cortese allowed MP to buy him to keep the Argentinian happy....Admittedly, Osvaldo has some skill(as we saw with his goal at SMS v. Man City), but the rest of the time he was just an catastrophe waiting to happen, and his bout of fisticuffs with Fonte was the last straw. The financial burden the club has to sustain for these two excessive transfer fees... AND the resulting contracts, and huge salaries ...must be laid clearly on the shoulders of the former Chairman (Cortese)...who seem to be responsible to no-one (except himself) and he must have made some extra friends in Italy by sanctioning these two very ill-judged transfers. END of.....
  21. Ah !.. but as team captain he can always claim that his true meaning was " lost in translation ", (but it makes you wonder what the journo's question was in the first place.?)
  22. quite "punny " for this early in the morning, CB
  23. ....but don't you know... the media don't like to have " foreign " managers for the England team....?
  24. you mean like Theo Walcott .....and that Bale fellow?
