Kelvin has been around almost as long as Ted Bates' statue ......would be hard for club personnel to think of a time when he wasn't there.... .....there will surely be another coaching job ...somewhere in the organisation.
-
........and 250+ games later ....he's still giving 100%. He saw us through our relegation to L1 ....and all the way back up again. Don't really blame him for last summer's outburst. He saw everyone else leaving and must have feared the worst. Will be sorry to see him go, but he deserves the best deal he can get (anywhere else) IMO. It was obvious he would move on at sometime, and I've always thought it would be with Arsene at Arsenal.

Who has Played their Last Game for Saints?
david in sweden replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
of course I realise you're only looking at regular first teamers, but there are a number of former Academy / U21 players who may also be on their way out. Jake Sinclair, Oscar Rowe and Cody Cropper are yet to be offered extensions and of course, both Boruc and Hooiveld are OOC in June anyway. -
well I'm afraid he has Andy, Gaston was sub. in the CC Cup game at Millwall, and the away game at West Ham..prior to his loan out to Hull. probably inspired RK to loan him out after watching his performances. ........

well Morgan Schneiderlin might ...if he stays another season......on my reckoning he's played 260+ in all comps.to date

guess he might be happy to stay ...IF we make Europa League, otherwise the Reed / Koeman comments might just be a face-saving move to anticipate the inevitable... -
:mcinnes:ouch !

Targett & Ward-Prowse named in England U21 Euro squad
david in sweden replied to S-Clarke's topic in The Saints
will we expect to see " Prowsie " as team captain for these games ..or ? -
.....sounds more like one of McMenemy's midfield line-ups......
-
I recall his comment when he was signed ......something along the lines that .....his salary was enormous...and he couldn't refuse. .....if that was 30K+/week then we're in for a real cold shower if we have to see out his contract. Best that we ship him out ASAP for whatever we can get.

Great season but 1 out of 21 away since 7th feb !
david in sweden replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
headline says it all really....just a few more goals in the right games would have made it look so much better. -
......yet another who chooses his words and never mentions us as one of " his former clubs " - even though he got his break into League football with Saints.
-
.....that just about sums it up for me. End of rant.

partly the fact that Hoddle and some of media "experts" came out of the woodwork to ally themselves with Saints' recent success ...(especially after the 6-1 result), but also that Hoddle (in particular) chose the phrase "my former club " when he walked out us for greener pastures without a word of apology or regret in 2001. I've nothing against anyone wanting to further their career, but IMO....the manner of his going was disgraceful and left a nasty taste in the mouth for many. Almost 15 years later, he "lovingly" refers to us as "his former club", especially when he also prised away Dean Richards, R.I.P.... soon afterwards, when Deano was (argueably) one of the best CB 's we had in a decade. (Like Lovren), Deano's career nose-dived soon afterwards....and let's not go into the MLT World Cup omission either. As you can surmise, he is not one of my favourite pundits.
-
....was my mistake, should have been posted on Overseas Saints...... (it was obviously of no interest to you, but I was surprised to see that it has had over 700 hits so far ...)

Have watched quite a few U21 games /highlights ,and of course Ryan Seager looks quite impressive. Doesn't look to be the tallest player on the pitch, but is a real goal-poacher and like Pahars and Moran before him; if you give him the service, he'll get the goals.
-
Yes it is...and I do feel he's got a lot of unfair criticism. Really quite good for someone his age... in his first Prem. season, coming from the Dutch league. ..and if you reckon in a few "worldies " from goalkeepers who've beaten out his shots....and the seven /eight times he's hit the woodwork, with a bit more luck he'd have been in the top echelon of Prem.scorers this season. A 30% goals / games return is about average, and just look at the names of " so-called top Prem. strikers " who haven't even achieved that this season.
-
well CB....perhaps it's just the proverbial straw ....in my dislike of the man ...... if he wasn't seeking to claim some sort of personal credit....why must he seek to remind everyone that he was manager here for a short time ....15 years ago? nothing that he did in his time at SFC has any bearing on the present success / attention that Saints are getting in the media.

in part of a published interview in the Daily Mail...(where he recommends Arsenal should sign Morgan Schneiderlin)....Glenn Hoddle is quoted as saying; "my former club...... is something of a breeding ground for Arsenal players....(naming Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chambers etc) ..." Whilst he may be literally correct....where on Earth does he have the gall to even remotely suggest that their success has anything to do with him. (Some of our present-day young talents were still in nursery school at the time that Hoddle was manager of Saints). Those of us who think back the 15-odd years ago to when Hoddle ( then unemployed).. was offered the Saints' job.. can recall that his rather short stay was just a "time-filler" before he returned to his " spiritual home " at White Hot Lane ..(only to be booted out when Saints beat Spuds on their home turf). This has to be one of the most hypocritical statements I've seen this season ...and there have been a few more of those, too. It almost ranks with the now defunked Mauricio Pochettino, who in the midst our Saints' good early season run suggested that; (wait for it )..... that " ..Ronald Koeman's job had been made a lot easier ......because he had inherited a good team... (from him.") (Pochettino)... MP obviously didn't look too closely at what happened at SMS after he jumped ship last May, as Koeman's regular side barely contains half-a dozen of the squad that finished the previous season under Pochettino. Perhaps he ought to consider that despite inheriting £100 million-worth of players at Spuds... had it not been for their reserve team centre-forward (one Harry Kane).. Pochettino's new-look Spuds might be wallowing in a mid-table Prem spot ..or worse. ......and let's not forget Harry Redknapp's outrageous declaration that...." he had discovered Theo Walcott " whilst at SMS. Wherever Saints players end up...the real groundwork for the success of our Academy belongs with the Saints training staff, and not the " temporary" managers. We are surely well-used to the media b*llsh*t that is regularly pumped out on fans, but this is surely the height of hypocrisy. Shame on you Hoddle. ..

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 6-1 Aston Villa
david in sweden replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
best birthday present I've had in a long time ........ -
In his excellent article (quoted above) ....Jeremy Wilson makes the point that Chambers was "second-choice " right back and Clyne was clearly better. Wenger thought he could develop CC further / quicker ..fine!... his decision. But £16 million for this player was surely an offer we couldn't refuse.........
-
.....says it all really - doesn't it?.......you have to wonder whose interest these agents are really working for ......

Now we are 8 games (of 30) into the Swedish season, and there are no clear leaders with the runaway results that we have been used to in the past years. In fact, everything is about as unsettled as you could possibly imagine. Currently Gothenburg lead the table (a surprise recovery after several very ordinary seasons) followed by champions; Malmö, and Elfsborg, Djurgården, AIK and Norrköping all preceding each other by the margin... of just one point. Although there have been tough, exciting fixtures, certainly no team seems to be a potential champion, and all have had at least one poor game. Meanwhile, Örebro are anchored at the bottom of the table with just 2 points from a possible 24 (looks like a tough season ahead for them). Those Saints fans who have formed " an attachment " to one or more Swedish sides frequently ask how their favourites are getting along. Quite a few fans who toured with Saints' sides during the Strachan regime, will recall visiting various clubs, none of whom have set the world alight at present except perhaps Jönköping South, who have made a lightening start and head Superetten (read Championship) by several points.... but there is still a long way to go, but it is encouraging for the Småland side who have never played at the highest level. The generally poor standard of club football (Sweden didn't qualify for the last World Cup), has in part been lifted by the influx of players from Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East....but that won't necessarily help the national side who have struggled a bit in recent games. It remains to be seen if there are any bright new talents for the nest generation National side who still rely heavily of goals from Zlatan Abrahamovic, who himself plays for PSG in France, and many of the blossoming young talents frequently move to lower league sides in Holland and Italy.
