  1. I seem to recall seeing highlights of that game on TV .(as a boy)......tremendous match. I recall that Di Stefano scored 4 and Puskas 3 for Real, I think ? ...and the German CF scored a hat-trick, too and was still on the losing side ... BUT BE CAREFUL. euro saint . There's no way THIS post is SAINTS RELATED ..that'll upset somebody, I'm sure. !
  2. what's been the most difficult adjustment now that he's come into a Prem. club ?
  3. " former player " .....I hate to say this, but he isn't employed by SFC any longer, and so unless he has first-hand examples to back up this statement I really feel very sorry that this " discussion " has degenerated to this. MLT had a lot of people's support when he was conned into fronting that ridiculous Pinnacle fiasco, that was going nowhere, and started the hate campaign against Marcus Liebherr's bid before anyone knew anything about it. Sorry Matt....can't you just leave us with those wonderful memeories instead, and leave this alone?
  4. It isn't .that's why ..it's on the Overseas Forum, ......but there are a lot more people interested in football in Sweden than you seem to realise....it's only there for that reason. tbh... I'm more surprised that people come on this site with items that are nothing to do with football....at all.
  5. ...... wasn't a Saints fixture either. It was played last night in Berlin. See report on Overseas Saints Forum
  6. .....was last night's World Cup fixture when Sweden travelled to Berlin to play Germany in front of a 70,000 crowd. What a match ! Swedish coach Hamrén chose to leave both midfielders Anders Svensson and KIm Källström on the bench and tried to play a containing defensive game against their hosts - with predicatble results. The Germans were rampant and scored their first after 8 mins..... and were 3-0 up before HT and the visitors were looking a total shambles. Even after Källström came on for Sweden at 46 mins, the Germans scored yet again ....and were 4-0 up after 56 mins.. and the Swedes looked to be on the end of a real hiding. However, they started to show some spirit and Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored on 62 mins. and Michael Lustig 2 mins later, (both from Källström passes) and the Swedes were really began to look creative .....at 2-4 and continued to harass the Germans who were getting a taste of their own medicine. A third Swedish goal came in the last 5 mins through Johan Elmander........AND they finally equalised in the 94th minute (Rasmus Elm) ...to leave the field at 4-4. I've been a football fan for over 50 years, and have seen my share of fight-backs, but never any team coming back from 0-4 at International level... and against such opposition. For the Swedes it was a moral victory - especially as a German striker handled the ball in the area prior to scoring their 3rd goal. The whole country is alive with the story today - except perhaps for the 50% who were dispirited and went to bed in disgust ....when the score was 0-4.
  7. .....and as an additional fact; somewhere between 20% -25 % ** of mankind (and womankind too, I presume) ...are naturally left-handed....but not necessarily left-footed. The aforementioned son (above #30) is naturally left-handed, but kicks only with his right foot. Given those sort of stats.**..... it means that (in normal circumstances) we would have about 4-5 natural " lefties" in the squad, unless we go out of our way to recruit more than the average.
  8. I wondered when someone was going to mention that ...but so many have it in for Fox that I suppose criticism is expected now.
  9. Nice thought ....but against whom?
  10. not too bad ....only 3 negative posts in the first 20.. ....mind you a lot of the full-time critics were probably still in bed at the time .....
  11. and look at what he'll be missing ...Everton (H) Man Utd (A)..Wigan ( A) and Man.City (H) ...that fixture sequence looks a bit familiar.... still if he isn't a first team regular by then - it won't matter too much ! .
  12. Those of us with long memories and longer beards can recall a time when we played FIVE Englishmen who'd all captained England (early 1980's) but now I see that we have two players who have captained internationbal sides. Namely ...Steve Davis (NI) ...and Maya Yoshida for Japan. Whilst we maybe not talking top level sides... it's encouraging that we do have such players in the squad.
  13. well I think many of you have made your point. Of course being 1000 miles away from the homeland does mean that not all of the inside chat in English football makes it past Heathrow, but I think I get your drift. Perhaps AC isn't the best example........however, even those of you who were most rude about the OP avoided blashemy - so thx for that.
  14. .....and let's not pretend that Fox isn't the only defender to get " beaten -up " by Gareth Bale in the last few years.... Bale didn't get his reputation from just playing better than the Danny Fox's of the football world, at times Bale has been described (by some) .as World Class. What did you expect ?
  15. .....so couldn't we? Would it be better to pay out £15- 20 million fee to buy a world class defender.. or sign someone for nothing... and pay him £4 million-a-year for 3 years instead?
  16. well.? I really like Lallana's playing style and he doesn't look out of place in the Prem.either ....BUT on several occasions I've seen him waste chances when in good shooting positions inside the box ..he needed time to change foot and get it onto his right foot....by which time the chance had gone, or the eventual shot was blocked. I've seen it happen more than once and asked myself the same question ..if he's two-footed . WHY ?
  17. .........include signing players like..... Ashley Cole? Cole (only 31) says he is going to leave Chelsea in the summer.... when his contract runs out .... .So ..with no transfer fee involved, a salary of a few £million a year MIGHT just attract him ..OR ? ...A good chance to see if Cortese's resolve to succeed can land a few " bigger fish " ..and solve our LB problem in one go .....or maybe you don't agree?
  18. I don't know that we did? Are you really sure ? ....I only recall him playing at LB ? I do recall people raving about his 30 yard free kicks.....but then criticising him when he got regularly skinned by an opposing winger. No-one is perfect but I don't recall him being outstanding as a LB, but he looked good going forward and did that with a "3" on his back. After he joined Spurs he had a job to get on their bench, and only got a regular spot when used in a more advanced role. Wales played " someone else " at LB, and use him in an attacking role.
