only one absent from the FL Chairmans meeting

..and that is the crux of the argument I think. Why are people so concerned about this ? Surely the most important thing is the fact that because of Marcus Liebherr, we still have a football club and a good manager, a team that would have been in the play-offs -were it not for THAT -10 ..and money in the bank that many Prem.sides could only dream about. Cortese may well be right, and if his attempt to move even part of this mountain succeeds in any way - then good luck to him. The FA is a prime example of an organisation set in stone who live by the motto ..we've never done it that way before. -
Absolutely Vectis ! what if we played a few regulars and "someone " broke a leg .............it would be crazy and AP would be sectioned !

Which division has clubs with the largest amount of different letters... starting the club names? example; Arsenal and Aston Villa.. are both A = ONE letter West Ham, Wolves Wigan... are all W = but only ONE letter ..........so which divison has the most different letters and ..if you're gonna guess..also try to say how many different letters... you think are used. No cheating! ..use your brain and not a website. If you're still sane by Wednesday, I'll publish the result...if those guys in the white coats let me back to the keyboard... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I noticed that along the way this thread was hijacked by some others who were too busy..or couldn't be bothered to start their own thread... but anyway ....the correct answer to the above is : League 1 has 24 teams who between them use 15 different letters at the start.. B C D E H L M N O P R S T W and Y as for the rest; CCC uses 13 letters and L2 has 14. The Prem. of course with 20 sides uses only 11 diff.letters. With only 3 days left...there isn't much more nonsense that you can think up....

Of course Brentford wanted a lot of compensation..look who they were " selling him" to ...one of the richest clubs in the country .. Anyone selling to us will quote pie in the sky figures for their players...they would have asked 50K for the groundsman's dog ! The Tribunal are more logical. Our original estimate looked pretty spot-on.

No mention of reading match on sky sports news?!?

just as well ..considering the final score. -
These training games are the most football he's gonna get, and I think AP is trying to help him on his way with only a month left..not so much in the shop window but more likely the car boot sale... Renewal of contract? .....NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Patrik.. some people sound very desperate - don't they , it's not as if we need him in the team for tomorrow!

Half time in Sweden...

UPDATED JULY 28 2010...back to playing after WC lay-off. Pontus looking good, scored the other week. Brommapojkerna are the " best " Stockholm side at present, lying 7th - even with a negative goal difference. Djurgården have climbed to mid table... but last seasons DOUBLE winners AIK are in deep trouble at the bottom, and no-one is mentioning the " R " word. -
will he be found guilty ?... .the jury is still out .

Born in Italy (1946) ..to English parents. More of a fan's favourite who played right midfield in the late 1960's, but was never better than his rival Hughie Fisher. Unlikely as it sounds...had disciplinary problems with Ted Bates and was later sold on to Blackpooli n 1970. - neither country was ever interested to have him play at any international level.
-
I thought he was Italian?... but never made it past the Reserve side.

I also heard that RL didn't like Drogba, because he had ..an attitude. Thank goodness for that , I mean ..whoever would want to sign a goalscorer ..with an attitude ! -
AGREED ! Most of the "rumours " are only agent-spin or space-fillers on a slow day in the sports room of some tabloid. Of course we must have depth in the squad, and we can only buy upto 31 August..what happens if we have another Murty situation like last year, or a key player is injured ? It's only common sense to have good cover for injury, suspensions, and it promotes a bit of competition in the squad.

I really don't place as much significance on this as many seem to do. In my time, I have worked for a number of highly-motivated, and visionary bosses, and it was fun. plus ..wouldn't anyone who'd been employed... praise such a boss.... who was smart enough to give him a job...? My guess is that the staff are all 100% -ers and it's all go behind the scenes.

A very calm logical assessment , Viking . I agree.

yeah Benji..I think I'd go along with your judgment! Our only probelm - at this level - is we have TOO MUCH money. Every contracted player we look at will suddenly be quoted at £1 million + and all those hard-up clubs would sell the groundsman's cat for 100K. I suspect that AP is looking at former Prem. players who - having been released - can't find a new club, but would have a field day in L1. Whether it's true or not ..the Benjani saga is a typical example. Last season we got Jahdi and Fonte.....and now Butterfield for free. No point in spending money unneccessarily just because you've got it. Get a reputation for big spending and little clubs will expect to get a big fee.

The side that finished the season was AP's SECOND squad - built after New Year. Others like Holmes and the younger lads had no chance to try out in mid- season..so that practice games like these with no real meaning - and no loss of points - are ideal to see them try-out. I've never been troubled by the result f such games - except that I wanted Saints to win - and at least AP will be able to make a better judgment of their potential for the new season. My only reservation is that two new signings -designed to solve our defensive shortcomings-have been injured already.

read his lips...Pulis is the son of another manager...keep on good terms with ..in case. Mentioning the worry about the shoulder introduces an element of doubt about extending his contract (which we wouldn't have done anyway) but it shows genuine concern about his future fitness...and we don't want to sign anyone with a bad injury record..do we ?. SEE ...everyone comes out OK (except Pulis ) who shouldn't have been signed in the first place.
