  1. Agree with most of that Stu, Managing a first team is not the same as youth sides. A number of very successful coaches have had their reputations trashed because they moved up and were out of their depth. examples ; Dave Merrington (youth / reserve trainer (1984-1995) had THE most successful Saints youth set-up EVER; Shearer, MLT,the Wallaces, Moran, etc, ... one season as a struggling Prem. manager blotted the memory. Similar story for respected trainers who took the wrong chances; Stuart Gray and Steve Wigley. ( A man has to know his limitations, eh Clint ?) MW should stay on with the youngsters, after all he's been forced to play most of them this last season. A new face will bring in some golden oldies to beef up the midfield and front line and give the younger players time to develop (as it should be ).
  2. now that we have a breathing space, and are waitinfgfor Pinnacle and their mystery buyer to tie up the deal..is anyone at the club having second thoughts about OK-ing the Dyer deal with Swansea. I only ask because Swans seem to think they have us in a corner and want to get him ..on the cheap. This and other deals should be scrutinized so that we don't lose whatever "crown jewels " we have left and they go for a pittance.
  3. OK ...so maybe it's one of the not SO rich Swiss families. I'd be glad to have anyone who's ONLY worth ..say... £500 million. What about this " super fit lady" who lives ..IN Hampshire (?) who owns the brewery firm ....was it Carlsberg ..or ?. Someone wrote a thread on her some weeks ago .....can't recall name ...
  4. at least once he has said that he is under contract as ..youth team coach he took over from JP when asked to do so by the (then) Board..he didn't say NO.. but he's hardly responsible for clearing up other peoples mistakes. I think he should stay..he's the only man who know all the playing staff.
  5. ....or scoring at least one goal every 10 years or so .........
  6. Let me guess...they're going to buy the Civic Centre and replace the tower with a giant cuckoo clock ..right ?
  7. ssurely ..you mean Brilliantine !... (look at that haircut)
  8. Mmm....FOUR seriously intertested parties, eh ? Pinnacle, Marc J. The Irish consortium and ????? ............(who) I wonder?
  9. Getting rid of Staplewood might depend on whether or not you plan to spend the next 10 years in league 1..? I think a lot of people feel that we will be on the way back up very soon - in which case we need to keep the facility. Bit like selling your house because you lost your job..do you expect to find new work ......or are you planning for bankruptcy ?.
  10. Of course, we DON'T need St.Mary's - at least, not 365 days a year. YES we need a home stadium....but for what....... 23 Home games + assorted cup / reserves games, occasional charity / international games = 30 days a year . Let Council (or some suitable entreprenuer)take care of it, and hire it out to Saints when needed, and to others as -and - when required. Man.City use a big council-owned stadium - why not ? A lot of extra costs that can be better utilised elsewhere.
  11. Surely the Walcott and Bale deals disprove that theory. There's likely to be one or two more -if we see Dyer, Lallana and Surman leave in the summer. The fact that bad management on the Boards behalf had squanderd the profits doesn't negate the fact that concentrating on youth does " pay-off ". It looks a bit doubtful asa League 1 team, but when we go back up those type of facilities would be priceless. Playing every match at SMS and training there too, would totalyy destroy the playing surface in one season.
  12. most likely suggestions now are; a) getting estimates for white paint for the sidelines, or b) having the motor mowers blades sharpened.... ...surely can't be anything more that that. I disregard thoughts that the sight of the groundsmans car in the car park means that the site will become the largest car showroom in the county.
  13. ouch ! maybe we should say " grassy-ass " instead...?
  14. MAYBE....we're getting a quotation for cutting the grass, next season ....?
  15. ...or some sort of " insider information " ... straight from the horses mouth.
  16. Good luck to you, sir..you've got a lucky face !
  17. Huh, I suppose that means another influx of Scottish players into the side, and exit for all the foreigners who can't understand an Aberdeen accent ! Auch aye de nu ! Jock !....sorry Gordon .
  18. yes I heard that story, too -perhaps Mr.Lowe's judgment wasn't that good on everything ..?
  19. ....some players are played in a wrong position. Like Frannie Benali (who didn't get away) but played left winger as as a schoolboy (and scored goals) but was converted to become one of the legendary left backs.
  20. well I think it's interesting docker. May seem very old fashioned to a younger generation but considering that it was 50 years ago, it shows great vision for something that today is part of the modern coaches training methodology.
  21. ANYONE who's played in the Premiership surely is a force to be reckoned with ....in League 1
  22. Maybe someone LIKE Jamie Redknapp, but I wouldn't be 'appy 'bout employing anyone with that name. Too many bad vibes !
  23. I always liked the MLT efforts you named, but also enjoyed Theo Walcotts Luton lob - just for the sheer cheek of it - he made it look so easy.
  24. I didn't say Mark Hughes was no good, but when you're at the top end of the Premiership the demands are even higher. Liverpool have sacked managers who only finished 4th in the Prem. Chelsea's owner sacked a manager who couldn't keep his team on top and it can't be easy owning " the other club" in Manchester. The Arab gentleman who took over MC wants quick results and has the money to get them. I'm sure he' ll be looking for an Italian alternative in the summer. I like Hughes, yes he has done well with Wales but he's the Man.City manager first ..so I stand by me comment - he's on thin ice, with not even a Euro place to contest next season, whilst United will be Champions League contenders again regardless of Wednesdays result.
