Whilst people are complaining about 7 million being the 'lions share' of our budget, maybe it's a STATEMENT of intent that we have money to improve the squad and will spend it where necessary. I think it's more likely we will spend around £20 million to improve the squad and also sell a couple of players who were squad rotation (Dean Hammond, Martin, Chaplow, Seabourne, Dickson/Harding). Of course in an ideal world I'd like us to go for bargain buys who turn out to be superb signings, but given how long we've been linked with Jay Rod, there's no doubt we have done extensive scouting on him, on how he would fit into our system and improve the side. Lastly he is 22, a very young age and he hasn't reached his peak years. There's no doubt that if he's as good as his fee suggests then he WILL get better, score goals in the Premiership and have an even bigger sell-on value. I would say we need to get another centre-back, a pacey wide-man, reserve keeper and ball-winning midfielder to compliment Morgan/Cork. The centre-back should be priority because we haven't got anyone apart from possibly Jack Stephens/Aaron Martin in reserve who is capable of playing there. I think Seabourne is going to be finished with us after his injury as well as the fact I think he's a reasonable championship defender but lacks the composure needed to play regularly in the Premiership. I don't want to see Scott Dann/Roger Johnston at Southampton, both had poor seasons last time out and were a bit overrated because they played well at Birmingham together. The best buy I think would be Vasilis Torosidis who has yet to make that move away from Olympiacos, but has played regularly for Greece.

Paul schaener would be a solid signing. Martin Olsen is available too. -
As long as the player improved us I don't mind how much or little a player costs.

He chooses to forget the fact that jos scored 8 goals, Morgan's influence from midfield. Oh and tadanari lee, the difference between us and qpr is that we have a consistent goalscorer. What's so bad about that? The guy also chooses to say that we all felt promotion was secured on the last day, complete tosh. The article stinks of terrible bias and is poorly written. -

Genuinely think we will get in a couple of great loans to help us. In terms of a centre back we could get Aston villa's Richard dunno or Scott dann. We need another centre mid, so I assume we will bid for a goal scoring midfielder, whittngham would fit the bill, as would graham dorrans from west brom. Also a bid for Rhys Taylor from boro would be a good signing. I'd like us to try and sign benayoun, for that added touch of class. Or even a cheeky bid for Steven pienarr as everton can't afford him. The one player I would love us to sign is victor Moses, however I think bigger clubs want him. -
To be fair I'm in agreement with alpine on this thread.

I bet he was watching on smiling up there. Forever grateful for what he has done.
-
He's always quiet when we win. Alps that is. COYR! Premiership here we come.
-
It was harsh, and apologies for the fat comment. I just don't like the fact everytime I'm on here he slates everything saints relayed. Apologies anyway alpine maybe you're not that bad.
-
Alpine why do you post here when everyone bar one of two hate you? You're not a fan, just a pathetic fat man with too much time on his hands on a wind up. 19,000 posts, all of them negative drivel.
-
If we don't go up will you still support Saints next season? It's just, according to you. Saints apparently can't be anyone, Boro, Coventry, anyone in the playoffs. We're second in the league over a season yet you in particular Alpine seem to think Southampton will lose every game. As nervous as I am about the final day, I have confidence we can get the result. I also have confidence that on our day we could beat any team in the league. But football also has an element of luck which people seem to forget about. The Portsmouth goals were two world class strikes, the Boro game should have had a red card. Why do you think players and managers alike mention luck? Because sometimes it runs for you, sometimes it doesn't, for instance against Leeds when we got battered and pumelled in possibly one of the worst performances I have seen from us this season we won 1-0, how we won? I do not know, but this result on another day could have been 5-1 Leeds, had their strikers had their shooting boots on, and had Kelvin Davies not put a heroic effort. After that game, I remember you praising the team, being so proud etc. After the Portsmouth game where we did have more than enough chances to win and lost by two fantastic goals, you bemoaned the team you questioned Adkins integrity. I understand football brings emotions, but in terms of performance your comments don't warrant the abuse you give the team, words such as spineless, gutless, useless are thrown around as if we were some relegated side like Wolves. What we must do as fans is forget the other games, forget the what if's and the but's, what has happened HAS happened, we have to be that twelfth man on Saturday and be real fans. Be behind the team 100% because this Southampton side need our support to get that win. I believe in the side, I believe we have some fantastic players, we play some excellent football and we deserve to be where we are in the table. There is no use looking back at past results thinking that cost us, if the team don't win, then we GO again, we get behind the team in the playoffs. If we don't go up through the playoffs, through automatic promotion. Despite the anger the frustration the sheer fact we blew it. WE MOVE ON and focus on supporting the team! Alpine, if you can put your negative energy that seems plague this place like a dementor into something positive, me and many other fans would be most appreciative. Just for one week can you get behind the team? COYR!

This will be a stressful night!

Well played Ben Marshall.
-
Have to say Adam Lallana has had a quiet game, that Boro defence looks there for the taking. We just need to run in behind a bit more.
-
This reminds me of when we played Leeds. They're pressing us so high up the field and we keep passing the ball to Butterfield in defence who cluelessly hoofs it into their defense. We need to get the ball down and relax, either that or hit Lambert from goal kicks to turn them round.

Matt Philips/Zaha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFXTRGtSyZ4 Check out Lallana's touch for the third. Seriously outrageous stuff. -
I was thinking about this. I think Morgan would have tracked Norris run for that equalising goal. His tracking back work is much better than Cork or Hammonds, and he often is in the RIGHT place at the right time. Shame he got studded within 5 minutes.

Should Brighton be investigated for Saturdays game ?
saintsmike25 replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Alpine you mention them dicking us but forget we lost rl to A red card. They scored 3 when we were down to 10. As for this argument any side can get thrashed, west ham have some very good players who when they all 'gel' can kill sides with their direct approach. One of the reasons they drew games was from not putting away chances. That. 6-0 had been coming for ages! I was going to ask are you actually a saints fan because you have no faith no belief and All you ever do is moan when you never go to games. You post as if you're a season ticket holder, yet your level of Knowledge only goes so far as basic knee jerk reaction. Every match thread is littered with you moaning and saying. "f****** useless". If Southampton don't win you complain and post horribly negative comments, you never put saints down to win in big games. It's a good thing you can't attend matches because as Nigel says so often we need people on the bus and the fans behind the team, the only thing you're behind is your negative agenda to make others share your pessimistic miserable outlook. -

saintsmike25 replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
Alpine, I think I speak for everyone who reads this forum when I say the sooner they ban your negative drivel the better. As for Brighton beating saints in the playoffs, we would beat them easily. The only team that would worry me are Blackpool. -
Alpine_saint in negative post shocker..

Put on Steve De Ridder on the right to face Ian Harte, Chaplow seems a bit lost today. His crossing has been poor, no pace, and seems slow in his decision making. We CAN win this! COYR
-
Guly used his Brazilian mind control techniques to get Fox to do that. Don't underestimate his influence on the bench.
-
That crossfield ball cost us, and we were caught napping. Roberts unmarked, poor defending. But we were playing excellently before that.
