Probably more likelythe case.

R.I.P. Ray Alan. This has got to be post of the week though, even Ray Alan would have loved it.
-
You realise that some 'loony lefties' will actually argue against that. I couldn't argue against you TBH.
-
And Stanley/Dune will blame FF and Unite because the poor mother could not go abroad.
-
It seems grossly unfair at how they are being made to jump through hoops while the nefarious goings on some 40 miles away barely attract anything anywhere near as punitive punishment. Bloody disgusting.
-
Fair enough then.

I hear that we are all going to treat the Camerons to a new kitchen. How nice for them.

Is there anything which we can do to help you avoid floating to the top? :goodman:

One lie that we never fell for was that you lot are 'The Bestest Fans In The World 'TM.

Stu, you need to understand that the people are the union. The Union cannot call the members out on strike as that is illegal. All they can do is ballot the members. When they do so the ballot has to be, IIRC, at least two choices. 1. For industrial action up to, but not including, strike action. 2. For industrial action up to, and including, strike action. The ballot is scrutinised by, IIRC, the Electoral Reform Society. If a call for a strike is issued, when clearly the ballot papers indicate otherwise, then the Union are open to litigation and a large fine. By that same token after a ballot in favour of strike action then the Union have to give the company a legally determined period of notice. This gives both sides in a dispute the time to gather their thoughts and seek a compromise. When Duncan announced the ballot result that was all he was doing, conveying the members wishes. Not stirring them into strike action. The Union have not broken any laws either. The members (Union) have made their decision clear.

Stu, BTF has included the link. It's been here at least twice. Even TDD has gone and taken a quote from it. So here it is again: http://www.unitetheunion.com/pdf/022-BA%20Cabin%20Crew%20disputev5.pdf I think that were the link untrue then Mr Walsh will have repudiated it with enormous haste!
-
No argument but I think 'making the tea' is a quaint description of the roles and responsibilities that each member of cabin crew has. Including, if need be, getting you and I off that jet should a disaster occur. The reason I posted anyway was because £56k gross has somehow been spun into £56k take home! Can someone enlighten me about this war chest that BA supposedly have? Off to bed now.
-
I can't see any mention of take home pay? Quote from the Unite PDF Brief to Press Crew can afford to make sacrifices - they're well paid This is also not true. Seventy percent of BA's crew earn less than £20,000 (below median earnings in the UK, which are around £25,000). To top their wages up, crew rely on their overseas trips, which can help them increase their earnings by £5,000 a year. BA introduced new contracts for crew 13 years ago. Under these contracts, crew earnings are: Main crew: Starting salary £11,000, rising after 12 years’ service to £20,000 Purser: Starting salary £18,000, rising after 18 years’ service to £29,000 Cabin Services Director (CSDs): Starting salary £28,000, rising after 20 years service to £36,000 There are a very few CSDs on higher wages, but these will have at least 25 years service with BA. The allowances crew receive for food and accommodation when overseas are set according to local cost of living (hence more for a trip to Tokyo than to Delhi) and are also taxed in the UK. For cabin crew operating out of Gatwick, wages are even lower. Most will earn under £15,000, including allowances, and many rely on tax credits to top up their earnings.

All that debt meanwhile This dispute probably runs deeper than the general public can see. Where did this alleged warchest come from? BA are now rivaling Pompey for scandalous money maneuvering if this alleged warchest is true.
-
This war chest, has it therefore been put by for precisely this confrontation? How have they managed to amass this if the company is close to going under? Just rhetorical questions I can't expect to get answered but do you have a source for this because it puts a totally different flavour on the elements at play in this dispute. In fact it's almost as if BA management have contrived this dispute and yet, when they seemingly have agreement, they push on. Is this is about destroying the Union and maybe the union are aware of this?
-
I thought about this and think it just comes down to either how it was approached at other airports (consultation?) or it was brought in and the Union thought it was not worth the fight or maybe they even saw the sense in it. So what's different at Heathrow? Again I can only think that the Union were not prepared to do it without consultation in an effort to keep as much of the perks as they could?
-
I haven't met you so it might be hard to gauge you. If pushed, and only by your personna on here (which is not necessarily a good guide) I'd opt for those that don't adapt because you keep talking about how life is in the forces and give the impression that you think things should be done that way.

I would be unhappy but jumping up and down and calling names would not get me any nearer to Jamaica than I was. It's all about understanding. I have many many ex servicemen over the years and conclude that there are two types. Those that believe civilian life should be run the 'way we did it in the mob'. Then there are those who adapt to civilian life.
-
No you don't work for BA. You get what you signed up for, along with total obedience (and I don't mean that disparingly) while BA employees get what they signed up for. When it comes to change you obviously have no recourse to any action if you are told your conditions are changing. For BA employees they have a right to take legally organised action including withdrawing their labour when changes are imposed when negotiation could well have got the same result.

Could you desctribe these hotels please, are they lavish?
