I met him in London in 1979. I was there on a college field trip to the Museum of Science. I hopped up onto the footplate of a steam loco and a chap was already upthere with his back to me. When he turned round it was none other than the great man himself. I went into some kind of shock and didn't say a word, just bathed in his god-like presence until he went.
Arse! Well spotted Pike. I was just going to buy them so thanks for that. Anyway, the principle is sound, I've even gone so far as to start a thread on it in the Away forum. A place where people can post up super deals for the benefit of all.
The issue of getting to away matches and the high prices for day returns comes up regularly. I saved nearly £1000 last season by booking as early as possible online. 2 examples were Taunton-Hartlepool return for £34 and Taunton - Norwich return for £32, one way 1st class!
I know this is early for the Oldham game which is on the 8th January (and is complicated by it being FA Cup 3rd round) , but it's really just to show the kind of savings that can be made if you book early through online sites.

Pretty much half price. The ticket is to Manchester as the Oldham loop upgrade is not finished yet, but the bus is only a couple of quid each way.
If you book in advance, it can be incredibly cheap.

Passed on this day in 2004.
Forever missed.
