The club is no longer run FOR the fans...............
Sour Mash replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
He was more likely to produce something for us than McQueen was. -
You don't seem particularly keen on watching the game here http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?48048-WHU&p=1884840#post1884840 what has changed?

So you think it was just a coincidence that we happened to change half our team for a cup game? And took off our best player to give a young kid a debut while going for an equaliser? And gave priority to a mid-table clash with Hull over a decent chance of getting on a cup run against Sunderland? -

It's not about necessarily wanting constant success, it's questioning what modern football feels like for many fans, that it is more about exploiting loyal fans who will put up with anything than genuine enjoyment of a sport. It is a pity,I don't see how anyone can think otherwise? -
It was excellent support, more than we had there in the league game, plus was arranged at short-notice, was on tv and ridiculously expensive travel-wise.

So all those things just happen to be relevant for an FA Cup tie, but haven't been relevant once for a league game this season? -

I don't understand your post/point? -
MP doesn't seem as tied into our support as he should be based on the quality of our results under him - not ever speaking the language probably hasn't helped.

So you don't think we played a weakened team yesterday? What the f**k? -

It's not surprising that crowds are lower whn they know they'll be watching a 2nd string side and/or lower division opposition. -

But we did play a weakened team, weaker than any we've used for a league game all season and the Hull game has taken significant priority over yesterday's match, that is what is frustrating so many fans. -

Agree- when you put it like that, it hammers home that the management of our club really weren't too fussed about us exiting the competition. -
Anyone that gets wound up and thinks a forum is "ruined" by a few other posters is taking it too seriously, even more one that starts a new thread on it. There is plenty of football discussion on here, same as pretty much any forum.

So finishing above Man U is more important than silverware?
Sour Mash replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Good effort at getting some bites on here -
Unlikely as it seems that the same little clique of locally focused journos attend these and ask half-arsed questions, I'd be surprised if we see anything challenging.
-
No it's not.
-
Then you're missing the whole point, which isn't a surprise.

Was a cracking 2nd half in particular, proper cup tie, had a bit of everything! -
Yeah, that's becasue Everton played a full strength team and came up against a Swansea side resting loads of players for their game versus Napoli this week. Did you watch the Arsenal v Liverpool game and see how much Liverpool bossed that 2nd half? The Liverpool team that played away on Wednesday night.

We had more there yesterday than in the league game this season, so your post doesn't make sense.

The real reason that we sacrificed the cups...
Sour Mash replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
But we did rest players and play a weaker team for yesterday's game. And we did prioritise the Hull game over yesterday's game. Both those things significantly prioritised a league place above cup progress. -

But the question is, should it become a concern to fans if it results in key cup performances like yesterday? -
I've taken loads of stick for being critical of him in the past, not really my intention, as he has potential, but I think he's a fair way off being a Premier League player and has been carried by some very strong players around him. Excellent dead balls at times and very hard-working, he doesn't score, can't beat a man, doesn't tackle enough, weak in the air, not very quick. He looked handy around autumn time when we were playing very well and him and Clyne struck up a good partnership, with Clyne providing the pace and laying the ball back to JWP for crossing etc, plus knowing that he could bomb on with a sensible head in JWP being prepared to drop back in for him.
