How many tactical mistakes is Adkins allowed?
supersonic replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
It's not just the subs he makes which are costing us, this season has been a string of errors from him. Lallana as captain is a nice sentimental touch, but detrimental to the team. After fulhams 2nd he was just stood with his hands on his hips looking unimpressed. No motivation and no communication. We don't have an on pitch leader and it shows Another thing is, even last year, our defence looked unorganised and dis-jointed. It's still the same. Adkins either hasn't seem this, or has failed to do anything about it. I don't know which is worse -
To be fair, we were 2-1 up against City with about 15 mins to go and gave them at least 1 goal We were 2-1 up against United with 4 minutes to go and gave them 2 goals
-
It's pleasing we got one back after being 2-1 down with minutes to go, but I have to feel this was 2 points dropped today rather than 1 gained. We were completely in control, especially in the first half
-
2 points dropped. Yet again dropped points at home. Some people are getting found out very quickly at this level. Hooiveld: 3 own goals and 2 penalties conceded so far this season. Cracking bloke, sadly not up to scratch. Yoshida looked poor today, but in fairness he's not a full-back, but some of his defending looked suspect. Rodriguez. Why? £6m - hardly touched the ball in the first half. Got bullied all over the place, poor control numerous times, poor in the air and looked knackered after an hour. For a front man he goes missing too much. I got slated by some (mostly people who weren't at the game) for saying similar things after watching him against Sheff Wed reserves. What does Mayuka have to do to get a game?
-
Why AGAIN he decided to take off the best players is beyond me. Rodriguez was knackered 5-10minutes before the sub, and had, again, done not a lot in the match. (but Rodriguez is a different point) The fact that we STILL look unorganised at the back is another worrying sign. Tactics have always been Adkins' weak points, and they are getting shown up time and time again in this league. 11 points dropped from winning positions so far this season. If we had held on in the game today (we were pretty comfortable before the subs, and v man utd) we'd be 11th.

Rule number 1 of defending: don't let the ball bounce
-
It sounds like a typical Adkins response, who beats not only around the bush, but the whole bloody forest sometimes
-
Mayuka needs to start up front with Lambert IMO. Fulhams defence lacks pace, Mayuka has pace to burn. Lambert may well struggle v Hangeland in the air, but Mayuka will, hopefully, use his pace in behind

Kinda have 2 teams now, have followed the Cardinals for a while, after being in AZ a few years back and went to a game. What a stadium, best I've ever been to. And, as a previous poster has said, I look out for the Jaguars, there are strong rumours that they are the team to move to the UK. Makes perfect sense, they struggle to get decent home crowds now
-
Do we have a list of the injuries? We know Ramirez, Cork are out. I've heard people saying Clyne, Morgan and maybe Hooiveld too?
-
On the official Uruguay FA website, they have the above article with the title: "Ramirez Injured: will not face Argentina and Bolivia" It's a very legitimate source (not the sun/mail/echo etc) And for those saying "how can he be injured if they called him into the squad on Thursday?", well, they called him up with the hope that Fridays tests would be positive, it's sounds like they weren't so will now look for a replacement
-
He posted a link to the article

Must say I have no idea what any of that means, but sounds like he has a thigh strain
-
From his twitter account: "Gaston Ramírez footballer suffered in training, trauma of right thigh resulting in a hematoma of quadriceps to tension"

We had one good half against a VERY poor Villa side, lets not get too carried away. we struggle with just 1 up front, Lambert tries his best but he needs someone up there with him, unless it's a temporary thing until Lee comes back, but I doubt it, otherwise start with Lambert/Mayuka, they worked well v Villa when came on. 4-3-1-2 would work best, with Ramirez playing behind 2 strikers. to me, 1 striker at home is too defensive, especially in games we must be winning -

Adkins has made some very questionable tactical decisions, I'm still unconvinced by his tactical ability. why change the 4-4-2 formation which worked so successfully over past 2 seasons? why stick with 4-3-3/4-5-1 which clearly isn't working? why stick with zonal marking which, again, isn't working why drop Puncheon from the Everton game, one of best players this season and especially v Villa. Done more than Lallana has this season. Why take off best 3 players v Man Utd? Why pay £6m for a centre forward and play him on the wing? The Fulham game is the biggest game of our season, fail to win and the pressure will mount. Man marking please and 2 up front at home -
We've lost 6 out of last 8 league games (75%) A loss to Fulham and it's 7 loses in last 9 games. Time is ticking for Adkins

Jeremy Clarkson (love or hate him) summed him up correctly on twitter: "I've decided after much careful thought that Nick Clegg is a complete arse" and, "What fascinates me about Clegg is that he's managed to alienate the well off AND the not so well off"
-
it really wasn't a good penalty, if he wasn't so lucky he would have missed. It was probably his first touch of the second half
-
It was a truly awful penalty, David Silva-esq

Just got back/woken up. What a poor game! We looked ok at best, although comfortable. Wednesday, like Villa, were **** poor. Back 4 and midfield looked good. Felt Gazzaniga and Rodriguez struggled. JRod, took 1st goal well, but other than that didn't win too much in the air and wasn't involved in game + missed an easy chance. Come away with more questions than answers for him, the main one being who the f*** decided we should pay £6m for him!? But, a win is a win. Dull game, dull crowd. Fitness for the fringe players, most of whom did well and should use this as a confidence boost. Hope Cork's injury isn't too bad, he played well tonight

Gazzaniga did ok, but he had virtually nothing to do, a few simple crosses and 1 or 2 shots straight at him. People are getting a tad carried away, Villa were poor, extremely poor. Everton on the other hand are not. Boruc will start
