Quite, It's shocking the things people can do to their own family, and equally shocking what they do them for. -
Anyone else watching the ladies' rhythmic gymnastics? Some of the slow mo shots have been rather saucy

Has there been a race that hasn't had a crash?

Stacking Shelves against your human rights...?

A friend of mine worked over 20 years in the construction industry only for his back to decide very abruptly it had enough one day. He ended up having to change his career (he's going into accountancy) and spent about 2 months on JSA before withdrawing his claim as he could afford to and he considered the jobcentre a complete waste of time. When he first applied the jobcentre arranged a interview time for him that when he got down there, he discovered was 20 mins before the jobcentre actually opened. Then when he got in he had to wait another 45 mins for the interview so it ended up being over an hour after he was told it was going to be. In the subsequent meetings all his adviser did was look on the database for jobs (which he could do himself on the direct.gov.uk website) and nitpick on a different technicality every time as to why he could get his benefit stopped if he didn't do something. The adviser also strongly implied something one week and then stated a completely contradictory statement another week, and started putting him forward for jobs (based on his previous experience) that involved heavy lifting Eventually he began a college course that coincidentally took place on the same day he had his JSA meetings. As the jobcentre categorically refused to see him on any other day/later on the same day he withdrew his claim. He said it was a real eye opener and genuinely felt sorry for all the genuine claimants if that was what they had to deal with -

Have you registered with the telephone preference service? -
If she doesn't that's it, she'll have to get on her bike.

A friend of mine used Citylink once, and never again. He sent 3 identical boxes of IT equipment to a photography lab in Exeter and got a phone call from the intended recipient saying the delivery driver was trying to get him to sign for 3 boxes. . . . and a rear tyre for a tractor. After confirming to the driver that his IT company didn't sell tractor tyres and he merely had 3 boxes and 3 boxes only collected and sent, the driver still refused to deliver the boxes unless they signed for the tyre as well. I don't know what happened in the end but I bet a farmer somewhere had a long wait to get his tractor back to full working order. -
It's pretty erratic. Just watched the 2nd match and the punches are either a mile off or right on the target, although the defence is pretty awful. It can only get better I suppose

Should Oscar Pistorius be allowed to compete in the Olympics?
JackFrost replied to jawillwill's topic in The Lounge
Whilst the guy is an incredible inspiration and I have nothing but respect for him I think the best compromise is let him race in the olympics as a 'wildcard' but make him ineligible for qualification to the latter rounds unless they can scientifically prove that Pistorius artificial limbs don't give him an advantage over other athletes (which I don't think is possible) -
Because when it comes to Muslims the 0.1% that hold extremist views get 99.9% of the press coverage.

Did you see any of the men's judo? They had a bloke from Guam (Ricardo someone Jr.) who was 34 stone (218kg) in the 100+kg. His opponent was 21 stone and looked tiny compared to him. The commentator openly said "how on earth does he fit on a plane"?

I remember Frankie Boyle saying something along the lines of "trust the Brits to be so good at rowing, a sport where you go backwards"

The security was very tight when I went to see the badminton yesterday. Similar process you get at airports and whilst thorough it was very efficient. After going round the shops we all went along to this free concert in Hyde Park afterwards and the security was hopeless. Even though they had metal detectors it was evident the staff hadn't been trained properly and a friend of mine smuggled a stanley knife in with ease. (He'd only bought it a couple of hours previously, before we heard about the concert)

And then they'd achieve exactly what you're complaining about. Personally I think our athletes would have a higher chance of getting a gold medal if they continued to try their hardest.

I went to the badminton yesterday and it was good to watch although the Wembley Arena seats are some of the smallest and cramped I've ever come across and it was stifling hot. The view however was excellent, and the badminton was superb. First up you had a match between a Danish girl and a Russian girl that went all the way which was played at the same time as a match between a Turk who got thrashed by a short girl from Chinese Taipei, who was the best player there by a considerable distance. Both the Brits lost although they could easily have won their matches. We actually left just before the controversial Chinese/South Korean game (it was last on) due to the heat. Another very noticeable however were the empty seats. The arena was barely half full.

If Kazakhstan and North Korea can win 2 golds each surely we can win a gold medal?
