We've had videos of goalkeepers scoring before. And we've had videos of players injuring themselves due to celebrating a goal. But this is the first time we've had a goalkeeper scoring an unlikely winner and then screwing his season up at the same time. His joy at netting the winning goal was short-lived, though, because he tore his anterior cruciate ligament as he ran around the net towards the fans. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/opinions/show/2448234/ecstasy-followed-instantly-by-agony/

Makes me wonder if giving money is worth it. GENEVA (AP) — A $21.7 billion development fund backed by celebrities and hailed as an alternative to the bureaucracy of the United Nations sees as much as two-thirds of some grants eaten up by corruption, The Associated Press has learned. Much of the money is accounted for with forged documents or improper bookkeeping, indicating it was pocketed, investigators for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria say. Donated prescription drugs wind up being sold on the black market. The fund's newly reinforced inspector general's office, which uncovered the corruption, can't give an overall accounting because it has examined only a tiny fraction of the $10 billion that the fund has spent since its creation in 2002. But the levels of corruption in the grants they have audited so far are astonishing. A full 67 percent of money spent on an anti-AIDS program in Mauritania was misspent, the investigators told the fund's board of directors. So did 36 percent of the money spent on a program in Mali to fight tuberculosis and malaria, and 30 percent of grants to Djibouti. A tough looking group of bikers were riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge so they stop. The leader, a big burly man, gets off his bike and says, "What are you doing?" "I'm going to commit a suicide," she says. While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an opportunity he asked "Well, before you jump, why don't you give me a Kiss?" So, she does and it was a long, deep lingering kiss. After she's finished, the biker says, "Wow! That was the best Kiss I have ever had. That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous Why are you committing suicide?" "My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl......"

Facebook Problem - well maybe ?
Saint in Paradise replied to Saint in Paradise's topic in The Lounge
As I said in my original post I have nothing whatsoever to do with FB, I only posted something that was sent to me. I also said it was up to you whether you believed it or not. I therefore apologise for trying to be helpful about a subject that I understand a few people use. -
Don't know anything about something called Facebook BUT I had an e-mail which said :- Between today and tomorrow, the New FB Privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" goes into effect. The new setting shares your data with non-FB sites & it is automatically set to "Enabled".Go to Account>Privacy Settings>Apps & Websites>Instant Personalization>edit settings & uncheck "Enable". BTW If your friends don't do this, they will be sharing info about you as well. How true or what it means I leave for you to decide. .

"Should" be ok for World Cup hummmmm http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/news/article/-/8709414/injured-swann-to-return-to-england/ http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/news/article/-/8709698/injured-swann-returns-to-england/ At least Broad is back training with the team. -
U.S. military officials tell NBC News that investigators have been unable to make any direct connection between a jailed army private suspected with leaking secret documents and Julian Assange, founder of the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks. The officials say that while investigators have determined that Manning had allegedly unlawfully downloaded tens of thousands of documents onto his own computer and passed them to an unauthorized person, there is apparently no evidence he passed the files directly to Assange, or had any direct contact with the controversial WikiLeaks figure. Anti-war groups, a psychologist group as well as filmmaker Michael Moore and Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg have called for Bradley to be released from detention. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41241414/ns/us_news-wikileaks_in_security/

Just a couple of questions re England team. Matt Prior, a good choice over Steven Davies ? Do you think is was because of "Form" or choosing a good mate over someone not quite as well known / friends with the selectors ? Should they wait for Bresnan or get a replacement just in case ? I know that getting replacements is difficult at this late stage but you can replace injured players. .

Turkish when you go please make an urgent appointment for "Deppo" he is probably in even greater need than you for medical treatment.

He should have known he was being stupid as he has been in Dubai a while now. Pity he didn't read about Dubai from what Dubai Phil has posted in the past on here Mr Carroll, in his 30s, is a property analyst at HSBC Middle East in Dubai. HSBC has confirmed he was still an employee and remained in police custody. Ms Spencer is believed to have studied at Dubai University and has been working in the property market since 2005. Many foreigners have fallen foul of local laws in the United Arab Emirates which strictly control drinking and ban sex outside marriage. Public displays of affection are also illegal. "The trio were shouting at each other and all hell was breaking loose. The officers had to try and calm them down. Lawyers are still trying to decide what offences to charge them with. But they have been made fully aware these are serious allegations which the courts will pursue vigorously." .

A New Zealand man has been locked up by Dubai police after he called them to control a former girlfriend armed with a knife. The jilted woman allegedly took revenge by wrecking the New Zealand man's apartment and threatening him with a knife when she caught him having sex with his new girlfriend, the Gulf News website reported. The Brazilian former girlfriend caught the unidentified New Zealander in bed with his new British girlfriend on the same day he broke up with her. The Brazilian, 24, went to the man's home early in the morning and wrecked the house with a kitchen knife, the police said. She then allegedly attempted to attack the New Zealander and his new girlfriend with the knife. The man called police, who arrested everyone and locked them up in Bur Dubai police station - with the two women in the same cell. Police said the case had been transferred to the public prosecutor for further investigation. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/8675246/nzer-in-dubai-jail-after-caught-in-bed-with-new-girlfriend/ .

Often the word "Legend" is not really true but in the case of this gentleman is certainly is very true indeed. He was also known as, IIRC, "The Lion of Vienna" for his exploits for England.
