The salary cap rules are massively flawed. I might be wrong on this, so prepare to shoot me down.... ...but every club can increase their wages by £4 million a year? Which would be great, but some clubs started on a much higher amount anyway? So what is the point? If Saints start on £52 million, and Liverpool start on £70 million, yet both get to increase by £4 million every year, how is that possibly fair?

Samaras to see us through Rodriguez' injury wouldn't be that bad, though I'd prefer us to utilise Gallagher.

Just did a quick search of Rickie Lambert on twitter. Rickie might have got his 'dream' move, but looks like he is going to struggle to get even close to the support he had here. The Scousers have already written him off.

Shaw clearly wasn't worth £30 million right now, but his potential is huge. Lambert is having a typical Lambert pre-season, I wouldn't read too much into that. I think everyone, including Rickie know that his role at Liverpool will be far lesser than it was here. £4 million for a squad member of his ability is good value in my opinion.

I spoke to Romain a while back. He is 'friends' with Schneiderlin. He's a pleasant guy, and spoke passionately about Morgan and how Saints have developed him. That friendship is likely to cloud his opinion a bit I guess, but until Saints spend some of that cash on some more players it's hard to not feel he is right.

I wondered the same. We seem very good at getting top dollar for outgoings, but incomings take forever. Whatever theory people wish to believe, this is a cost cutting exercise.

I've been accused of having my 'head in the sand' quite a lot recently after trying to make sense of what is going on etc. I make no bones that I certainly misjudged it, and am finding it difficult to stay positive. I am going to try though, because at the end of the day there is little that can be done and a small part of me thinks this is still a case of player power vs an inexperienced board. If the likes of Fonte, Cork and Clyne head out to teams not 'bigger than us' i.e Cardiff, Hull etc. I will join the full meltdown gang, but from what I have been told (not ITK, but people seem to like e-mailing me snippets) this is more like Steve Grant's version of events than anyone elses I have read. I do believe the club are desperately trying to get players in through the door, but with every departure they become less interested in joining and more expensive. My gut feeling is sold. Makes no sense to have not given him a contract extension unless they don't see the need. If Koeman signs Fer or Clasie, and God forbid keep Schneiderlin then Cork could well be considered surplus.

Yes, found out as being nowhere near as good as people think he is. He wouldn't have been terrible of course, but he ran the show at Liverpool and knew it. He wouldn't have had the same impact at a club where he was just another player in my opinion. England not poor down to him of course, but of his 114 caps how many stand out performances? Not many.

I would be loathed to see the club overspend on any goalkeeper. £7.5 million max, I'm certain keepers are much of a muchness.

Largely poor for England and about as inspirational a captain as a dead budgie.... Amazing for Liverpool over the years of course, but there he has free reign. When asked to play a particular role in an England shirt it never translated and in my opinion he is tactically unaware and would have got found out had he ever left Liverpool.

Thanks a lot, means a lot coming from you! If you meet any Pompey fans of course they will tell you that the Island is primarily Pompey. Another one of their myths. It's pretty even, edging in Saints favour in my experience! Though Pompey as a club certainly have a better relationship with the grass roots, hence why most decent Island players end up at Fratton. Recently though Bournemouth have made inroads, even having a Cherries side in the Island league!
