Yes it is (respect to Clancy for putting it in in the first place; in fairness he seems to have quite a lot of respect for the RN, especially the submarine division, who he quite often refers to as being as good as the USN submarine division. Suppose he hasnt met our resident Pilsbury Dough Boy from HMS Tireless yet...). But to be fair, the film would have been a lot longer and a lot more expensive to follow that part of the story arc. Most of the naval manoeuvreing is missing from the film; USS New Jersey is also not in the film, the air battle between the Tomcats and the Forger is not in the film and the A10 attack on the Kirov is also not present. They did show a Tomcat crashing, but it was in a collision with a Bear, and the film of it was some crap old USN B&W footage of a Panther crashing in the 50s or something. Also Tupelov's Alfa-class sub was killed by ramming from Red October, not a returning torpedo. An exciting film to be sure, but a sh*te adaption.

I see no-one has yet commented how Liverpool council are trying to currently shaft Southampton Docks out of its cruise liner business. Liverpool Docks took EU and Government funding to redevelop part of their facilites with the condition it could not be used for cruise liner turn-around since Southamptons facilities are privately funded and developed, and they now want the exclusion removed without returning the funding for no better reason as far as I can tell than "its Liverpool".......... Tell me how this wasnt the plan from the start, pap, and how this doesnt add to the theiving scumbag Scouser mythology.....

Read quite a few early Clancy books, and enjoyed them thoroughly. But run out of patience with the multi-thread complexity in Debt Of Honour, which was a step function greater than that of Sum Of All Fears. Intend to return one day to finish the book, and want to read Executive Orders and Bear and Dragon. Imo, all of the film adaptions are good in themselves, but are poor compared to the books. Sum of All Fears was the worst, really didnt do the book justice at all.

I dont like the national anthem either - would prefer Jerusalem being used in English contexts. However, this incident at the weekend just underlines the arrogance and total self-preoccupation that Liverpool FC fans have that has made them universally despised by the rest of the football world since the late 70s and made believing the negative portrayal of their behaviour at Hillsborough, whilst clearly unfair, all that more believable at the time. They didnt give a shiny sh*t when they were hammering teams left right and centre in the 80s, but then expected the rest of the game to feel sorry for them when their dominant era finally ended. F**k 'em. They are the team I most want us to beat next season.

The Premier League title and Champions League qualification is beyond us, imo. Premier League stability and top ten finishes, causing the occasional upset to the big 4 or 5, and threatening to win the odd cup will satisfy me.
