We matched Leeds pretty much exactly across the whole season (both P49 W28 D10 L11) and beat them in the one game which really mattered. There wasbasically nothing in it, if you think Leeds were better then wonderful, carry on. The point is that Saints (and Leeds and Luton) were all very good Championship teams who've made the playoffs in recent years. However it's far from impossible for a much worse team than us to win them one year and end up on the wrong end of a 10-0 and single figure points tally.

We finished three points behind Leeds but beat them three times, including the all or nothing game that really mattered. Luton finished third when they won they playoffs, so hardly in fluke territory either. I'm talking about the kind of club which was 8th on the last day but snuck into the top six on GD, for example.

We were a decent Championship team and the next best after Leicester and Ipswich. Imagine if someone like Millwall or Bristol City had won this years playoffs, they could easily finish on single figures in the PL and break all sorts of unwanted records.

I'm just glad that when the next team comes up and performs as badly or worse than we do, pundits will once again be talking about 'Derby's record' and not 'Derby and Southampton's record', or even just ours exclusively. TBH I don't think it'll be long before Derby are being talked about again. One year a pretty ordinary Championship team is going to fluke the playoffs and get absolutely walloped in the PL.

Thank you for telling me not to 'delude myself' whilst claiming that League 2 teams would only 'possibly' do better than us. Even bottom half Championship teams would give their right arm to have a combined strike force of Armstrong, Archer, BBD and Onuachu. If we're as bad as everyone says we are, then sell our very small clan of PL quality players in summer, then we'll almost certainly finish rock bottom of the Championship next season... but we're not going to do that.

I would. I will say with near certainty that any League 2 club dropped into the Premier League would achieve single figures in terms of points, probably around half of what we have now.

Bednarek - The self-fulfilling prophecy. Plays for us year after year because our recruitment is abysmal, accrues 200 PL apps, people say he must be okay because he’s played 200 PL games. The reality is that he was always a weak link, even in a bottom half team. Now the rest of the team are as bad as he is. ABK - Not getting a game for any of our managers this season. Whatever his problem is, it’s clear that he is the problem. Taylor - Clearly hasn’t settled here for whatever reason. Not even in the squad these days, so clearly has a problem. I will be astonished if by more than four of our players end up at PL clubs next season, so we’ll see what, "every other coach," really thinks about them.

No it isn’t. ‘Every bottom half team ever’ didn’t get promoted from fourth in the Championship, then sign Nathan Wood, Adam Lallana, BBD and Yuki Sugawara. People talk about us having three good players, in KWP, MF and AR. They aren’t three top class players, they’re three players who would get a game for Palace or Brentford. When you include our subs, 80% of the team were able to field for each game is basically just fodder. You aren’t going to get away with that at this level.
