That in itself should tell you something. If we have a worse record than a government which spent a year telling their citizens to take dementia meds, inject themselves with Toilet Duck and crack on as normal, then clearly there is a lot more to it than simply who's in charge. The way we record deaths is another factor; if someone accidentally chokes themselves to death having a w*nk, 27 days after a positive COVID test, they end up on the statistics. I'm not sure how other countries record this exactly but we're not doing ourselves any favours there.

I’m not defending our government’s handling of this but to say it’s primarily their fault is a fallacy.

No doubt they’ve dealt with it better, which I think comes from a few factors. Their governments are better organised. Their populations are better behaved and adhere to the rules They have experience from previous SARS outbreaks. They aren’t anywhere near as fat as we are.

They come up all the time on threads like this, BLM and other social political issues. The mindset of, "hey if this pisses off the other tribe then great!" It just makes every debate polarised. If you're even mildly conservative in your beliefs you get lumped in with Trump, there's no middle ground any more.

Define a Trump supporter. You don’t have to be a hardcore, proud boys neo-Nazi to vote for him. You just have to be sufficiently disillusioned with the democrats to want to vote for him and this kind of attitude is exactly where it comes from. It’s the same as the congressman who said, "amen and a woman." You might think it’s just a sh*t pun and I wouldn’t argue but to your average republican making jokes about their religion is like a red rag to a bull.

Which is a great attitude, if you want to push people back towards the likes of Trump and get him (or similar) elected again.
