  1. The original point was that anyone storming the Capitol was taking their life into their own hands. You suggested this was the same as anyone else committing crimes in the US. It’s not and the overwhelming majority of crimes and call outs are dealt with using non-violent means.
  2. In a country of 370 million, or whatever it is now, that’s not an incredibly big number. Probably well less than 1% of the total crimes committed across the country.
  3. I’d agree that the right to bear arms in the US is mental and that fear and adrenaline will massively exacerbate most situations. That’s why I have difficulty seeing some of these so called hate crimes as being race based as opposed to simply paranoia and overreaction. However, your post stated ‘any crime’ and it’s quite clear that 99% of crimes don’t warrant an armed response. Unfortunately for these protestors, violently forcing your way into the Capitol building is in the 1%.
  4. Proportionate force. Anyone taking part in an armed bank robbery with hostages is taking their life into their own hands, someone jaywalking; probably not.
  5. Hence the word, "attempted." If I try and shoot the Pope when he’s behind three inches of bulletproof glass, it’s never going to work; still attempted murder though.
  6. Part of me would love Pellè to come back for six months, as an option if we need something different. The realist says he’s 35 and doesn’t suit or game plan at all.
  7. The FA Cup tie in 2006 when Kenwyne Jones scored a late winner?
  8. He's a piece of malware Steve can't seem to get rid of.
  9. If we really insist in comparing this to BLM, a far better example would be the bloke (forgot the name) who, when ordered to stop by armed Police, went to the glove box of his car to retrieve an unknown object and was shot. It’s pointless and doesn’t really lead us anywhere but it is at least a more representative example.
  10. Whether you’re a drug dealer or a forces veteran aren’t relevant factors when dealing with criminals; Timothy McVeigh was a forces veteran. All that matters is whether proportional force was being used. In the case of the Capitol building, it appears at face value to be proportionate. With George Floyd, whilst he was clearly resisting arrest and posed a physical threat, kneeling on his throat was not a proportionate response. I don’t think it was murder or racially motivated but there was clearly a greater transgression of justice.
  11. I really can’t bring myself to call it that, if I’m honest. We’ve all read The Darwin Awards, I can’t say that violently forcing your way into a US government building (and presumably ignoring repeated warnings from armed security) is any more intelligent than breaking into a zoo and trying to shag a tiger. I don’t take any joy in hearing about death in these circumstances but on a day when 1,000 British Covid deaths is just another statistic...
  12. #Corbynwasright trending on Twitter, as if he was the one sane voice of reason and nobody else before had predicted Trumps far right train wreck of a presidency. 🤨
  13. That article is in no way objective. It starts off with the conclusion that BLM are the victims and publishes only the evidence that supports that. It shows none of the violence being perpetrated by some BLM supporters, all of the violence being instigated by the MAGA brigade and only the police response to the BLM protests.
  14. Can’t agree with that, it’s pure conjecture. Whilst there was an obvious difference in the scale of deployment of security personnel, there is no reason to think those soldiers/police would have acted any less professionally if confronted by different protestors in the same situation. I simply can’t imagine dozens of people being gunned down outside the Capitol, regardless of what Trump may or may not believe.
  15. Jeez, is he not about 94 by now? I swear he was mid twenties when he scored the winner against us in that freezing trip to Leeds in 2009.
  16. Anybody know who controls the security for events like this. Completely understandable that trump would choose that much security for a BLM protest and so little for today’s events, given his allegiances but is that actually his call? If it wasn’t, I’m astonished that others were involved in such a glaring oversight in preparations.
  17. The good people of Twitter have managed to get ‘Jamiroquai’ trending it would seem. 😂 Edit: They’ve got a point.
  18. I think we've become spoiled as a generation. Whether you're of a liberal or conservative persuasion, there seem to be a growing number of bad losers out there who just can't accept they haven't got what they wanted. People who assume a default position of victimhood and seek nothing but confirmation bias thereafter.
  19. Starting to think Trump might be a bit of a wrong-un.
  20. Maybe but despots all over the world will be using this as a grim warning to the perils of democracy and ‘weak leadership’. Think of all the Russians watching this and thanking God for the stability of Putin.
  21. Why am I hearing Wonderwall in my head?
  22. I think he’s being sarcastic.
  23. My money is on Camden but I’ve no way of checking. Let’s see how it pans out.
