And WW1, WW2, the Falklands, the battle with ISIS and many, many others which ended in stalemate or military defeat.

    Russia

Russia is sourcing personnel from North Korea and weapons from Iran, which would certainly suggest shortages to some extent, plus they clearly haven’t had the spare capacity to force Ukraine out of Kursk. As for negotiations and ceding land, nothing has happened yet so we’ll have to see. Nobody has put forward any kind of proposed settlement that both sides might agree to so far.
  3. There’s so much wrong with this. I don’t want to paper over the cracks, I want a consistent improvement in results, starting as soon as possible. A win against Liverpool isn’t going to buy him ‘a few months’. The board is nowhere near that short sighted and reactionary and nor should they be. When did I say I wanted to lose the next five games? Where has that criteria sprung out from? Would you honestly prefer another 9-0, to get laughed at by other fans again, to have the confidence of the squad destroyed and for what? So that we can make a knee jerk sacking in the hope that David Moyes will ride in on a white horse and save the day. I’ll just say I disagree and leave it there.
  4. I’m going to be controversial here and say that the best possible result is for Southampton to win, because I support Southampton.
  5. If Gareth Southgate made your packed lunch, he’d put a Penguin in there. My top five: Twirl McVities Gold Milky Way Club Twix
  6. None of that makes any sense. Bazunu got injured in the warm up against Preston, which was something of a walkover. That was followed by three defeats, following which he brought in an extra defender and we found some form again. He adapted his tactics to suit the change in circumstances and it worked. I’ve no idea what you’re going on about with ‘dogma’ and the first 45 games should have been better because of something.
  7. What on Earth are you talking about?
  8. He doesn't though, it's people on this forum who are always trotting out possession stats, not him.
  9. What, like the 28 we got last season? If he went to Rangers, it'd basically be like last season but if Ipswich and Leeds didn't exist.
  10. I would argue that Suga right and KWP left is probably the best way to utilise our FBs collectively. That involves KWP being in not his strongest possition but overall better than having him at RB with Taylor or Manning on the other side. It's much the same with BBD and Paul. If you want to play both of them in their strongest position you're going to have to drop Archer, who looks like a better striker than either of them, and make a sacrifice elsewhere on the pitch. We've got about 32/33 players on the books who you could class as first team options, clearly two thirds of them aren't going to be 'utilised to their full (albeit very low) potential' whoever we pick.
  11. He did absolutely nothing under Ralph, Jones or Selles. He's not a PL player in any set up.
  12. KWP - Not at his absolute best for us but still decent and has been somewhat restricted by having to play LB at times. Suga does an excellent job of getting forward down the right and supporting attacks so I don't think it's a tactical problem as such. Tall Paul - Only ever scored goals in leagues where De Ridder, Tosun and Elyounoussi were good. 30 years old and has never scored in any top European league. BBD - Is a Championship stiker, nothing more. 6 goals last season isn't enough to say we should be dropping Archer for him and he just looks like a donkey on the ball. Fraser - Just isn't fit. Has a long career history of going missing. ABK - Clearly some sort of personal issue with him, doesn't seem to want to be here at all. Not looked committed since Ralph left. Les - Chelsea youth player. He may be highly rated at that level but so was Jacob Melis. Alcaraz - Didn't look up to scratch in the Championship, or at Juve and nobody in Europe wanted to buy him 'on the cheap' either. Sold him for the money we used to buy Ramsdale, so no complaints here.
  13. I don't particularly think so either, I was just responding to Hypo's hypothetical.
  14. Who would that be, specifically? Pretty much everyone I can think of is basically doing as well as they have at any point in their career. Cornet perhaps but he seemed to have lost his way long before he got to St Mary’s, hence he was available for loan in the first place.
  15. Ings got one as well I think.
  16. I think he’s quite capable of figuring out that he’d like to play for bigger clubs one day, without the aid of any other player in the England squad.
  17. Lambert-esq debut. Cracking header!
  18. I'm going to discount players who never actually made an appearance (Aledine Yahia anyone?) and temporary managers (Dodd/Gorman, Kelvin etc.) Best - Manager Poch : Niemi Clyne Toby Virgil Bridge Wanyama Morgan Mane Davis Tiss* Beattie *If I'm being completely honest he was past his best in the time I've been into football but you can't not include Tiss. Worst - Manager Mad Nate: Blayney James Lancashire Powell O'Halloran Euell Liptak* Wright R. Smith White Bignall *I have no idea what position he was supposed to be playing and I'm not sure he did
  19. I read it, there's just no reason at all to think he'd offer anything beyond the very limited contribution of the other players you mentioned. "Has the potential to get better," is just estate agent speak for being crap. He's looked like nothing other than a reasonable enough option in the Championship, without being anything special, last season. If he was here and Sully was out on loan, people would be saying what you're saying about the latter.
  20. A classic case of fans believing the guy who's not playing must be better than the guys who are, simply because he's not playing. Edozie has done nothing in the PL and there's no reason to think he'd do anything more than Fraser, Sully or Cornet have achieved. He'll be an alright option in next season's Championship squad but if we did sell him, I wouldn't cry for too long.
  21. JT and Howell in there too, along with Jimmy Anderson randomly deciding he wants to play T20 again after about ten years.
  22. I’m not sure Swansea fans would agree on Wood but he’ll be reasonable back up and hopefully Edwards is something of a gem.
  23. I don't think there can be any arguments on that point. We've got about seven players too many.
  24. To be completely honest, we don't really need to sign anyone for another 18 months. Assuming we go down, even after selling THB, Dibling, KWP, Fernandes and Ramsdale, we'll still have a big squad of decent Championship players. We can also try to offload Paul, ABK, Sully, assume Lallana retires from playing and still have a squad that should be in the promotion fight, having lost 9 players (11 if you count Les and Cornet). GK: Bazunu, McC, Lumley DF: Suga, Manning, Taylor, Bree, JB, JS, Wood, Edwards MF: Aribo, Downes, Smallbone, Fraser, Edozie, SAA, Charles ST: Archer, Armstrong, BBD, Stewart (occasionally) We'd only need to bring in a couple of half decent loans really and we'd have a decent 24/25 man squad.
