  1. Incidentally, Sunday will mark 29 years since the Bradford City fire. Will the club be holding a minutes silence before the match like we did for Hillsborough?
  2. He would want the team to be all about him and that's the complete opposite of the attitude we're trying to instill in our team. He is aging, would only be a temporary stop gap and I doubt he would put half the effort in he does for Chelsea.
  3. I don't think I could stand the nausea if Liverpool won the league. Months and months of 'the spirit of Shankly', 'we did it for the 96' and 'greatest fans in the world'. Defensively, they just haven't been good enough. I would take our back four over theirs any day.
  4. So the Swansea goal isn't getting nominated then? On that basis I'll go with Lallana against Hull. I was lucky enough to be in the crowd for that, the Osvaldo goal and Lallana's other candidate against Newcastle.
  5. TBF Utd have had joke losses at home to Sunderland, West Brom, Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and a couple of others.
  6. It's easier than that, we just sign Kieron Richardson and Nicola Zigic. Knock some crosses in to the big man at the far post and boom, back of the net.
  7. The point is, barely a year ago ALF was flavour of the month and banging them in. Now he is an average Championship player. It's a valid argument as it shows the dangers of judging a player based on one month of good form. Yes, potentially a good sell on price but only if he spends a whole season scoring 15-20 goals. You could say about Gaston but the reality is he is worth half what we paid for him. It's irrelevant anyway. Signing other Premier League players on big transfer fees isn't Saints business model. Our signings this summer will be importants and young, lower league players.
  8. You're proposing we spend upwards of £10m on a player who has had 1 good month. Why not spend half as much money on Adam Le Fondre?
  9. That was the common complaint last season when we lost at home to the likes of Wigan, QPR and Sunderland. This season though has been a huge improvement. Our record against the teams below us in the League: Home - W7 - D3 - L2 Away - W6 - D4 - L2 That's excellent. I'd wager there are teams in the top 4 with similar records against the bottom 12 in the League. The difference obviously being that we have been poor against those sides above us.
  10. So this season we've done the double over Swansea, West Brom, Palace, Hull and Fulham. Have we ever done 5 teams in a season before? Could have been 6 if we hadn't cocked it up against Cardiff. Imagine where this team would be if it could score though. If Osvaldo had been the player we hoped and we hadn't had long injury layoffs for Boruc, Lovren, Victor and JRod we'd have been pushing for a CL place.
  11. A win would put us 2 points behind them in the final table which is pretty much level really, just one last minute winner or equaliser difference across the whole season. If someone had said this time last year that we'd match Man Utd this season you'd have laughed your arse off at them. I know there are no prizes for it but to finish 2 points behind the reigning Champions, who've since spent about £63m on transfers, isn't a bad achievement. Even though it says much more about their season than ours. Bearing that in mind, I'd go for our strongest possible line up. I know it might risk injuries to WC hopefuls but they still have time to impress Hodgson and some squad places might be up for grabs. If it is tight between Lambert and Carroll for instance, a brace against Man Utd might just be the clincher.
  12. I hadn't forgotten the marshal in Canada although he was run over by a tractor after the race, as opposed to being killed in a racing accident like the two in Monza and Melbourne. That whole weekend was indeed terrible. The little known Wendlinger accident at the next race put him in a coma. Whilst he did eventually return to racing, he was never competitive again and it ultimately ended his career.
  13. Reminds me of the Hodgson/Townsed/monkey 'racism scandal'. The one which was only ever a racism scandal in the media and everyone else knew it wasn't actually used in a racist context. I don't think Clarkson is racist, just an idiot. It's as if he is just saying it to get himself in trouble, like the last Top Gear in Burma when Hammond said there was a 'slope' on the bridge.
  14. April 30th and May 1st marks the 20th anniversary of the deaths of these two drivers at the same race weekend in Imola, Italy. Since Senna we haven't had a single F1 driver fatality, although 2 marshals were killed in 2000/1. There have been near misses. Hakkinen, Wendlinger and Massa were all involved in near fatal accidents, whilst Panis and Schumacher have suffered broken legs. All recovered to the extent that they returned to racing. This has to make F1 one of the safest motor sports in the world today, despite also being one of the fastest. The safety record compared to Indy Car for example is fantastic. I was too young to be interested in F1 back then but I'm sure that weekend in 94 will stick vividly in the imaginations of a great many motor sport fans.

  16. I used to live in Hahn. What a place that was, a 60 mile dead zone around it Hiroshima would have been proud of. In fairness to Ryanair, it's not like they keep these destinations a secret. They don't advertise 'Frankfurt' Airport, they call it 'Frankfurt Hahn', although it might as well be called 'Luxembourg Hahn', 'Cologne Hahn' or 'Spa Francorchamps international'. If you book a flight to a place like Hahn, Prestwick or Girona without checking where it is first, that's your own stupidity.
  17. Didn't Rasiak do something similar in a cup tie against The Posh once?
  18. A female colleague of mine is off work tomorrow attending a seminar on sexual innuendo in the work place. I've offered to fill her slot.
  19. Riise's was pretty good but my personal favourite was one MK Dons centre half smacking the ball off the back of the other and into the net. Pretty sure it was the JPT Southern final.
  20. They are basic but they will generally get you where you need to go on time. However this summer may be different. They have already had to cancel a fair number of flights due to a lack of pilots, who are leaving in their hundreds. They are attempting to plug the gap by wet leasing aircraft from Air Charters in Ireland and some Slovakian company called Air Explore (at hilarious expense to Ryanair I might add). I will always avoid them on principle if I can. Stick with Easyjet or Norwegian for a decent low cost service (free wifi on the latter).
  21. Players will only leave if we show no ambition, sell our best players and make no attempt to replace them. If Shaw and Lallana move to title contenders for £50m, that wont be seen as a lack of ambition, that's just what happens in football. If we use that £50m to buy another 4 Lovrens, Wanyamas and J Rods, the other players will stay. More to the point, I can't see anyone meeting the asking price for any of our other players. Someone might take a punt on Morgan but if all our players were better than those at Man City and Chelsea we'd have won the League.
  22. No they wont. Players leave clubs, it happens. The entire Spurs squad didn't race for the exit when Bale was sold and it wont happen here either. What's important is how we reinvest the money if and when players are sold. If we get £50m for Lallana and Shaw and spend it on 4 or 5 decent players, the rest will stay. They are on decent money here and wont be getting big offers from elsewhere. Morgan is the only other player I can see being snapped up by a big club.
  23. Hey, not bad Swap Liverpool and Man Utd, move Palace up about 9 places and that's not a long way off the table now. It's a shame we didn't all put money on Saints finishing 8th. We would probably have enough money to buy Pompey, demolish FP and build an affordable housing complex.
