Have you seen Robben defend? He does NOT track back and that was a big part of the fall out in the Holland squad, players not understanding the concept of team. Bale is certainly one of the best. Ex saint or not he has taken some great sides apart and has not been surrounded by "world class" players all over the park like others mentioned. There is a reason the big boys in Spain are constantly linked and Fergie regrets not having him, and let me tell you it's not because they heard a couple of southampton fans thought he was not half bad!

Is the issue between MLT and NC a professional or a personal one?
UpweySaint replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
The one thing you'l always get from le tiss is an honest opinion. It is a coincidence he works in the media and, as a saints legend, his views are often called upon about the club. Im sure, if asked how we felt, plenty of us would express these views without concern. He thinks Cortese is a tool, right or wrong, he's entitled to feel that way and say so. -
Lloyd James, his name came up on another thread and was a real bolt from the blue for me, always thought he'd make it through into the first team ...
-
Yhep fair point, I know we didn't magic him out of thin air but he didnt play much for them and I'd say we can take a good deal of credit for his development I was angling for the idea of southampton as an "adopted home" sort of thing!
-
We can line up whoever we want but it doesnt always work like that. Loic Remy, Forren, Buttner ... deals dont always go as expected. For all we know we had an eight million pound deal set up and were talking terms with zaha at palace only for utd to swoop in and gazump us
-
Im sure the same was said about Baird, now fulham wouldn't be without him. Certainly not a bad player to have around if he's happy to keep putting a shift in when called upon and can kick on in training, no telling where hard work and dedication might lead him, some players naturally develop later.
-
I wouldn't want to lose him but if he said he wanted to move on I would nto begrudge him a move. Has shown loyalty and committment to the cause through and through. I'd hope he would be a one club man but, otherwise, a contract extension to at least secure a good price would be ideal.
-
I've said it before and I will do so again, I like the sound of my own voice, a player who can play down either wing with a bit of power and pace who will get to the byline and not run out of ideas (schteeeeve) ideally Phillips at blackpool but an equivalent will also do if he's too pricey or not available etc

Pochettino - what can we learn from this TV caricature
UpweySaint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Im not genuinely bothered by Pochettino's role in at all, he seems fairly blameless, I was just pointing out the ironic nature of him talking about honesty in light of recent events. At the very least a poor word choice on his part! Oh good, thanks for letting me know what I can and cant feel, awful good of you. There was me thinking we all had free will ... you know, you can freely sit on your hands nice and quiet during the everton game, I can do otherwise. Besides I'd imagine events on the pitch will have more of an impact then those in the stands ... -

I hear he told a good joke about winning the fans over with honesty while having had secret negotiations behind everyone's backs -
Move on if you like, your choice. I wont, thats mine.
-
We get it. Some of you are obviously happy moving on and ignoring whats going on at our club. Thats your business, do as you please, if ever the day comes when you think NC has gone too far perhaps you'l see things differently, perhaps you wont. How about you stop trying to tell others what they should or should not do? Plenty of folk arent happy to keep quiet and let NC get on with it, tommorrow night might well evidence that.
-
Nobody is stopping you from moving on, do as you please, I'd rather not. It may not make a dramatic change but im not comfortable doing nothing.
-
So then should he perhaps arrange a press conference next week or at the end of the month? I'l bet good money he's not got the b**locks to do so ...
-
Maybe some of us don't care if we appointed Pep. No problems with the new manager and no idea how he'l perform ... its the hows and whys that make me ashamed of what NC has done to OUR club. (Yeah fine it's his business but a football club, this football club, is more then that).
-
Thanks, nice to know im not alone. I understand some of us are more bothered than others but I wont criticise those who want to keep quiet at the everton game so as not to upset the team and I'd hope they'd respect that others feel differently.
-
Fair point but im not talking about whos names on the deed. But business speaking if we, the fans, all decided that a line had been crossed (obviously this is not everyone line but it is for some people ...) and stopped going to games, buying merchandise, publically supporting the club ... etc the "business" becomes almost valueless. Sponsors, sky etc arent interested in a team without any fans or atmosphere, players dont want to play in front of empty crowds ... a stadium that loses money isnt actually worth that much except as land (though the council are hardly likely to turn it over to housing etc) ... I promise the rant has a point. We the fans retain the power for our club, yes it's much easier for a chairman to wield his power but dont forget we have a voice and can, and should, make our opinions known.
-
The fans were there before Cortese and we'l be there after him. He owns the busines but the club is much more than that and the club belongs to the fans and the city. Just look at them lot down the road, if Cortese get's bored and walks it'l be us picking up the pieces, nobody else.
-
I for one said i'd stick with him even if we went back down, he has all the makings on a world class coach and had been improving along with our squad. Even if I didnt think this yesterdays events were wrong and an embarassment for us as a club. I wont presume to tell you how to react but im genuinely gutted, I thought, well hoped Cortese was better then such underhand cowardly nonsense.

To be fair he had done rather better then average at his FIRST attempt with a newly promoted side still with the remnants of a league one squad -

A team pardew had near toe foot of the table. NA turned them around. The same side, without major additions, went up through a very competitive championship. Just look at the sides in that league throwing money around and getting nowhere. Look how long its taken Cardiff to even look like getting out? We were 15th and in good form, we've had injuries, a difficult run of fixtures and yet were really on the up and january would've only helped that. But heck let's not let all of that get in the way of the fact he's not a s****y foreign coach who promises to play some "new attacking football" which has been such an alien concept to us under NA ... hold on a minute ... -

Two promotions and fiteenth average? Where would a "good" manager have had us then? -

Because one is a public way to show Cortese how we feel and the other will perhaps show a few people in the club shop ... -

Crikey Im stll finding myself shocked by how different some peoples views on this. Yes, entertaining football is great but I was there for the Chelsea cup game, the dross that was wigan and sunderland no entertainment there ... but its more then that, theres more to being entertained to supporting a club for me. For me, and others, our club (not cortese's club to be clear, he's essentially just a steward) is being run in a disgraceful way and are not simply prepared to say "that was yesterday this is today".
