How do you know a Politician is lying ? Their lips are moving. You post your justificatiions, people disagree with you. When your position is not immediately accepted you double down and go up a gear. Were you as agitated when successive Tory PMs were having their levers pulled by the ERG ? I am not a macro-economics expert. Like the vast majority of people my reaction to any budget is primarily "How does this affect me ?". In this instance the answer is hardly at all, and this seems to be the concensus view. Some of the measures I approve of, some I'm ambivalent about, some, I admit, I don't fully understand. What Reeves seems to be trying to do is steady the ship now, and pay for it later when things have improved fiscally. This is obviously a risk, but I don't see it as being any more of a gamble than most previous budgets - long term predictions are no more than smoke snd mirrors guesses anyway.

You don't like the budget. We know. So what ? Ranting on here won't change RR's mind. "Real World impacts"; did the Pound crash, are the markets in meltdown ?

Most of the increase in public spending is in reforms to disability payments and removing the 2 child limit on means tested benefits. Are helping the disabled and lifting nearly 500 thousand children out of poverty bad things ?

For me pesonally it was just a bit meh. But for years I have seen Tory budgets I disagreed with, and on occasion suffered from. My position is that Chancellors will always find ways to disappoint people, unless there is a GE due in the next few months.

FYI, I don't read the Mirror or the Guardian. As a matter of fact I don't restrict myself to any specific news outlet. I read broadly and derive my own opinions.

Would that be those media outlets that favour the Tories or Reform ?

I did read it. The thing is, I do people the courtesy of reading their rubbish before commenting on it. I even do this for Nutty Nic. EDIT ( ironically ); Why do people go back and add text to posts AFTER they have been quoted and commented on / replied to ?

Because they are the measure against which RR is judged. They held the reins of fiscal power for 14 consecutive years prior to the current Government, and they certainly were not a 'safe pair of hands' with regard to the economy. If the rise in headroom is a good thing, why didn't they do it ? It's a legitimate question.

How many Tory Chancellors could have done this 'good in principle' thing, but didn't ?

More on Witkoff; he has said of Putin, "I liked him, I think he was honest. I don't regard Putin as a bad guy". It was said that "Witkoff may mean well, but was embarrassingly out of his depth dealing with Putin." In dealings in the Middle East, he negotiated wth Qatar as part of the Middle-East peace efforts; during the first Trump presidency Qatar effectively bailed Wikoff's business out of financial problems, but of course there was never a conflict of interest. But then he is still better qualified for his current post than former FOX weekend TV presenter Pete Hegseth is to be Secretary of War.

Witkoff is not a politician or diplomat, he is a property developer. He has no qualification or relevant experience for his current post, unless it is in planning the post-war reconstruction program.
