De Boer is on the shortlist as is Emery. Pellegrini was not, however that does not mean Pellegrini has not thrown his name into the hat. Southampton would be stupid to turn away interested managers who approach us first. Howe is still smarting from when we turned him down years ago and is not at the level we are currently with no European experience. Even if he did join and did well, people kidding themselves that he would magically 'be loyal'. If he did well enough with us for us to want him to stay he would be the obvious candidate for the England job and would be unsettled and media hyped before Woy has even been hit by the door on the way out. Why do people seem obsessed with having a manager who stays for more than 2 years. It just isn't the modern way. Rather keep changing every 2 years to stay fresh if we continue with results like we are currently getting. Everton are step behind us on the ladder of premier league ascension, they need to catch up, Koeman has proved he can take a mid-table club with average to decent players into top 8. They need him more than we do quite frankly. We need to gamble on getting a better manager and moving to the next stage otherwise whats the point of competing at all... oh yeah money... but you know what I mean.

Agree with you about FDB I always thought he was the first choice for the board last time around as well but wasn't interested at that point.
-
Cheers Guan any guesses as to who the first choice candidate would be?
-
And this what I think Koeman will do. Take 7m from the idiots up north and then go Holland, Barca or Arsenal in a year. Les knows that and the new contract offer will be designed to keep him in beyond that which isnt acceptable to Ron.
-
...what you mean the opportunity to Fleece a midtable club for 6M of their money a year? Haha muppets even more stupid than Liverpool buying our average players Allowing us to move on up. I'm keeping this quote in my back pocket ready to be rammed down your throat every opportunity I can next season just like we've done with every other club that's thought they've done a number on us in last five years.

All we need now on this thread is Alpine,Dalek and the dickhead who calls everyone pal in a passive aggressive way and we have the full set.
-
I thought this was pretty restrained of Whelk to be fair.

Who is people? The media? The ones who can't ever seem to see past man Utd as title contenders even when they play **** week in week out? The ones who predicted Leicester bottom of the table? Where was Barcelonas offer for him? An international job hardly requires you to be the best in the world, I wouldn't touch most international managers with a barge pole, Would you class Hodgson as a top 10 or even 20 manger in the world. The U.K. Media has put Ron a fishing line for weeks for jobs well beyond his current C.V and Everton have got excited and taken the bait. No wonder Ron snapped their hands off for that sort of money and Everton is a great chance to further his profile. But 6M ? What are they thinking?

Apologies if you were offended by use of the word mental. Okay he's a very accomplished and successful man I dont refute that. Why is he publicly telling rivals his transfer kitty, and making RonKoeman the 6th highest paid manager in the world when their are better options out there who would come for less. For a successful businessman it seems from the outset that he is being incredibly rash, showy and pretty daft/crazy/mental when he has only been top dog for a matter of weeks. It appears he didn't like being told no by saints and his pride was damaged and he has thrown the sink at it to prove a point. Having success and qualifications doesn't preclude someone from being a bit 'mental' in my opinion. Donald Trump probably the best popular comparison. His ego rules him first and he acts very much like a spoiled kid. I also include extreme narcissists in the same category and there's a bunch of them running our country too.

No other club loses it key personnel consistently
Mallagroth replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Still don't get why everyone is so upset. The timing of this is absolutely perfect for the club. We are in highest ever league position with a European group spot, players that are being hyped up in the media and could have standout tournaments in their international roles that we don't need to sell. We will never be in a better position than now to get a manager who would have turned his nose up at the thought of our club even 3 years ago. If Koeman is leaving, Saints are letting him go and it's the right decision for everyone. Good luck to the man he has been one of our best ever but he isn't our best option to break the ceiling. (I like many others didn't believe we could ever be a regular top 10 side again, so if this board says top 4 is the aim, then I believe that we can do it. The Liebherrs have consistently delivered excellence since they took over and it has no reason to stop now. Our success isn't luck based on recent prem years go back to the day we were taken over, that is your proof, from there to now how many missteps have really been taken by the leaders of the club. -
Their new owner is clearly a bit mental, I would also guess one of those control freak types who can't accept no for an answer no matter what he has to do or how much it costs. I also think he has bought into media hype and this means that they aren't having a dramatic resurgence anytime soon if they are going to chase after the flavour of the month players like man Utd and Liverpool do and still not be competing on a financial par with either of those two clubs. Buying because a player is popular just won't work anymore not with the revenue in the league and savvy clubs like Saimts, West Ham and Leicester getting the up and coming superstars before the rich club system has broken the players motivation and playing ethic by over inflating their egos. Also if Saints said we have 6M a year to spend on getting a manager and we don't care about paying compensation, we are ready to make our next manager the 6th richest in the world; is there honestly a single Saints fan who hand on heart would choose Ronald Koeman out of all the potential options? That my friends is how mental Evertons new owner is... I reckon a few clubs are gonna make an absolute mint selling average players to this dumbass. Should be fun to watch.

The irony is everything wants everything we have but we are still considered a **** smalltime club not as good as the rest...we will prove them wrong again i'm sure.

The saddest thing about this is I layed against Koeman being next Everton manager based on my belief the guy would honour his own words. And up to now I thought hobnob gate was the real tragedy, spare a thought. On the flipside i'm bloody excited that we get a shakeup in the next season. Koeman wasn't perfect, but was still one of the best we've had. However it was only a matter of time and if he wasn't interested in 1 year extension with us, then more fool Everton and good move Saints board.
-
I've also noticed if you drop the letter N from his screen name and replace the letters G,U,A with R,O,N it's quite spooky and I don't think any kind of coincidence.
-
I know tongue in cheek and its not the thread but come on, Clasie has shown signs he can be great for us. Players in his position can often take until second season to get fully up to speed in the prem. He has had a few injury setbacks as well.
-
Arsene Wenger? This typo made me laugh lots.
-
Stop assuming it is luck. It is clearly not.
-
Nutters. Given a choice between two ex Utd players I'd have Gary Neville way, way up the list over Giggs.
-
Agreed. Ron's player persona was his draw and influence that the players bought into initially.
-
We have a chance at any manager interested in moving into the Prem. We are upwardly mobile, renowned support structure and academy. We improve managers reputations and aren't known for sacking them. We have a host of players who are internationals and are coveted by much richer teams. Every year regardless of manager or backroom changes we get better. For any manager that wants a Prem job we must be high on the ideal job list unless they are someone who could already walk into Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City on their reputation.

I think he was pointing out how stupid meeting Evertons 6M wage offer is, and the results it would have is...
-
Unfortunately I did. Balls. Not for a huge amount though thankfully. I bet on Koemans honour... ******.
-
Sorry I was just quoting talksport news

Evertons new owner is an idiot. Boasting about how much money they have to spend before doing a single transfer or sale. Throwing obscene money at a manager who has publicly expressed his desire to manage the Holland national team in the near future. Talk about pressure and weight of expectation on Koeman. When he came here all he had to do was not get relegated after all the summer sales and the turmoil, at Everton he has to make all those big name signings firstly come to the club and then actually perform for them. The skill at saints is we recruit 20-30M rated players for half that price before they are recognised, Everton will be trying to buy the already known players at the higher price and it wont go far at all.
