  1. Good of Wikipedia to refresh my memory of exactly how bad that third season was, when they finished 11th. But we must overlook this poor 3rd season of Ferguson's reign, as it is overshadowed by the previous season when United were second. I wonder whether CB Fry would consider that 3rd season poor or not? Dazza, your original point in comparing the early career of Ferguson at United, although some time ago, has some validity as it might have happened that after that very poor 8 game sequence in the 89/90 season, he could well have been sacked. Who knows what Adkins might go on to achieve if like Ferguson he is given the chance?
  2. LostTransportation's posts reminded me lot of the Ho's. Seemingly quite intelligent and literate on the surface, but when somebody starts to get the better of him in a debate, he crumbles and descends into petty childish insults.
  3. Your comments just reinforce my opinion of Adkins, that it is refreshing to have a manager who is a breath of fresh air, original and individual. I very much doubt whether Adkins feels a desperate need to expand his vocabulary, but you could patently do with getting a bit more perspective and realise that most on here couldn't give a toss about how rival fans feel about our manager. You're one of the most negative posters on here and it therefore comes as little surprise that a little posititivity grates on you.
  4. If I knew, I'd go down the bookies and bet the house on it.
  5. Tadanari Lee is back in the reckoning. I certainly think that he offers us another dimension and would love to see him play some part in the match.
  6. Right on the money in my opinion. Much the same reason why we got Hoddle and off he went once he had put himself back in the limelight and got a better offer.
  7. The most amazing coincidence; Cortese's lost "spoon of power" turned up featured in the latest episode of Red Dwarf tonight.
  8. It's a combinaton of several factors that have already been mentioned, plus the crucial injuries, specially those of Cork and Ramirez. We had a much harder fixture list than them and when they have had some more difficult fixtures themselves, we will be in a better position to judge whether they are indeed better than us. Personally, I still believe that we will finish this season ahead of them.
  9. Surely the safes are no longer necessary since the departure of Bradley Wright-Phillips and Nathan Dyer?
  10. But we'd be mad not to jump at the chance to have an England International playing for us.
  11. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-match-reports/panathinaikos-1-spurs-1-europa-1361433 We already have players short of pace and capable of defensive blunders. Why add another? I do hope that he plays Sunday though.
  12. The analogy is flawed IMO and should have read "If your wife left you for your worst enemy...." But otherwise I agree entirely with the sentiment. If the club monitor this forum about these sorts of things, they will have a clear idea of the antagonism we bear Redcrapp. If Redcrapp were also thinking about it, he might have a look here too, to gauge the fans' response. He can be in no doubt whatsoever that he would be less welcome than genital herpes.
  13. OK, comfortably maybe not the right adjective, but we were mid table and still had half a season to go. Surely a manager of his supposed calibre ought to have been able to have ensured at least our survival.
  14. Agreed
  15. Wrong. We were comfortably mid-table when he took us over and yet Harry Houdini couldn't avoid getting us relegated with half a season available to him. I wouldn't want the Skate bastard anywhere near us.
  16. I think that I can see a pattern emerging there. But I'm told that we would be lucky to get him and have him bolstering the numbers in the treatment room. My Spurs supporting brother-in-law says that they would be delighted if we were to take on board their crocked defender and their ex-manager. On the plus side, he didn't gloat about the 4 goals we conceded on Saturday though, for some reason.
  17. Ah! The usual nonsense from Docker-pratt. How tall is Cortese, Docker?
  18. The title of the thread is incorrect. It says Echo story. But as usual, there is no story. So correct it please to read Echo non-story.
  19. What an eminently sensible position to adopt, Adrian.
  20. I corrected this for you, Duncan.
  21. You're not going to get away with that, WG, without being hammered for not understanding that he was once a World Class player and that if you didn't want him, you'd probably turn your nose up at Messi playing at CB too, or something along those lines.
  22. So, you watched QPR playing against 10 men for half an hour and drew your conclusions about how they would fare against us based on that? Despite Everton being a man short, he was one of their most dangerous and creative players too. I wish that they had had him sent off against us.
  23. So the entire squad isn't up to it? I thought it was just our defence. It's worse than I thought. So nobody was interested in Ramirez apart from Spurs, Liverpool, Roma and Inter, but they weren't really interested in him. So who's interested in Dawson? QPR? Just because some people are creaming themselves over Dawson, doesn't mean that everybody shares that opinion. Others are entitled to have a contrary opinion on him without being ridiculed. And already before the end of October people are predicting that we will be relegation certainties, so nobody will want to come here, regardless of what they might be offered in pay, because they will want to go to other Premiership teams who might be reasonably well positioned at the start of January, but who might decline thereafter. There has been plenty of precedent historically of teams being in the relegation zone in the New Year and surviving, but also the contrary position of teams looking to be OK then, but doing a nose dive afterwards. So tell me, how many positions in the Premiership teams' defences will be available and how many defenders from around the World wil be available to fill them? I'd hazard a guess that the latter far exceed the former. But of course, no good getting in a Spanish or Italian defender, as they probably won't have any Premiership experience, so it only has to be a player currently playing at this level here now, eh?
  24. Our fortunes will begin to change for the better when we have some players back from injury, like Cork, Ramirez and Lee for example. Had those three been available, I'm fairly happy that we would have been a bit further ahead in the table. And despite the recent results which have knocked the confidence of some posters, I still believe that not only will we survive, but we will be comfortably mid-table come the end of the season. Some say we will be relegated and they are entitled to their opinions, but we will just have to wait and see which faction is right.
  25. So one opinion says that when he's fully fit, he'd be first on the team sheet in Spurs' defence, so presumably he won't then be available to us. But if he isn't fully fit, then I wouldn't want him here. We can't do better than him, apparently, although we were able to get a top player like Ramirez from under the noses of other illustrious teams. I don't really see why we can't repeat the exercise with a defender.
