Doesn't TCWAB wear one of those? Or "Beware stupid Person" or something. Will he soon have to change his name by deed poll again to John Portsmouth Community Football Club Westwood?
-
You can see why I have Dorkish on ignore, Frank, but a shame that you quote him therefore. He's obviously not worth much in a debate if he believes that this dispute between the club and the contractor and perhaps even the other one, constitutes a position exactly the same as the Skates, leaving so many local firms high and dry Perhaps he's wasted in tele-sales and ought to apply for a job at the Echo.
-
The Echo: Just to make it crystal clear that this journo doesn't have much of a grasp of the facts, I've highlighted the parts that point to journalistic tendencies towards sensationalising a piece to put his rag's own spin on it. It might be a blog piece, the journo's opinion, but like many blog opinions, this is based on so much conjecture and just a few facts. One wouldn't know from reading it that this blog piece was written by a supposedly professional journalist, but then again, it is the Echo.

Does Ronaldo play for Spurs? when did they sign him?
-
It's the exception that proves the rule, eh? But this is an individual case we're discussing here. And I note that you assume that the justice system achieves a "suitable" goal rather than necessarily a right one, which would be made more difficult to assess if one party in the case didn't attend to defend their position.
-
They came to a decision which is binding on both parties. Whether it was the correct decision or not is debateable, although the assumption does appear to be sound at face value. There was that lady judge who decided to allow the Skates a stay of execution based on what were probably falsely prepared financial projections when they were almost certainly trading while insolvent. Was that the correct decision?

The club is one issue and the ground surely a different one. Unless I'm mistaken, the legal obligation of the administrator to maximise the revenue from the sale of assets on behalf of the creditors will dictate that he cannot just accept one bid for the ground without putting it out to other potential buyers. So as Derry says, what is to stop Chinny from bidding more than the Trust?

Spurs are better than us currently, but the gap between us will narrow over the next 2 or 3 years. It wouldn't surprise me if AVB doesn't last out the season. There are already dark murmerings from Spurs fans I know who don't think that he's very good for them.

What has Eldon Hoke of the Mentors got to do with us? *Confused*

Nail on head. Witty, succinct and thought-provoking.

Who is this Ipayed Inages you speak of? CHDAJFU?

Having been a critic of his attitude in the past, I'm very happy to say that he gives the appearance of having had a good look at himself and his performances have improved immeasurably. To a certain extent though, even when he had several good chances against QPR, he does often fail to hit the target, but he certainly wasn't afraid to pull the trigger and had his conversion rate been better, then he would be fit into any Premiership team. His performance against QPR was certainly the most effective I've seen from him and on MOTD the impression was given that he was involved with everything we did which wasn't strictly true, but his contribution was certainly important to our victory. If he can keep that up, then his rejuvenation will be complete. It would be nice to believe that Adkins has played a large part in this. He is a manager with a good understanding of how to handle the psychological aspects of what makes players tick and I get the impression that Puncheon may have had a big ego when he came to us and perhaps thought that he was too good to play for us when we were in the lower divisions. Whatever he thought, it was clear that his previous track record of promising much and delivering little at several clubs, meant that his best chance was to buckle down here and reinvent himself to prove that his early promise could be fulfilled. Our return to the Premiership allowed him to show what he is capable of on the biggest stage, having already shown glimpses of his ability when with Blackpool. For all the talk of him having been a big time Charlie, he appears to be popular with his team mates and generally puts in a good shift effort wise, traits that will gradually win over the doubters.

Either I didn't explain it very well, or you're not very good at understanding simple English. The penny dropping was you finally grasping that there is a long way to go this season. If indeed a penny has dropped for Nigel after two seasons of back to back promotions, all I can say is what a pity it is that he didn't have the benefit of your vast experience of football strategy, the ability to assess the best possible team, the mental attitude of the players, their individual fitness, the understanding that they have with their team mates etc. All this knowledge you possess has enabled you to assess exactly what he has been doing wrong these past matches and I propose that as you possess demonstrably a better footballing brain than Nigel, that the club wastes no time in sacking him and appointing you in his place.
-
Thanks for starting an entirely new thread; it really is needed. After all that you have said about how we are certainties to be relegated I'm relieved to see that the penny has finally dropped, that it is a long season and that there is nearly three quarters of it still remaining. Well done.

Matt & Lawrie on 5Live Sportsweek this morning
Wes Tender replied to swannymere's topic in The Saints
Doris the tea lady is as likely to hear as much as Frannie, Matt or Lawrie are nowadays. Let's hope that she develops an agenda too, so that we can hear what she has to say. -
Yes, many of them are World class. But as Hansen observed on Match of the Day, they find it hard to work together as a team, whereas he was full of praise for the way that we play for each other. He said that there weren't the big egos in the team. All in all, I think that it was the most complimentary praise from a MOTD pundit that I can ever remember.
-
Could it be that Cork and Ramirez were the players whose absence was instrumental in our poor form when they were both out injured? OK, it's only QPR, but it is a team full of players who at least on paper look half decent and Flyer has assured us that they're far better than us. This result and the last match with this team do lead me to at least hope that they will grow as a team with matches played together as a unit and could equal most of the teams around us for skill and promise and with belief, they could cause an upset or two.

It could be that the FL have kept their powder dry awaiting the results of the forensic investigation by Baker Tilley into the affairs of Oldco. The first evidence of irregularities has been reported involving Jacobs and Fugler's misuse of their client account. Notification has been made that several other writs will be issued against other parties involved in the running of the club and clarification will hopefully be forthcoming over the involvement of Al Mirage and any connection he might have had to Chinny, and whether there was creative accounting used by Andronikou to head off HMRC's ability to decline the CVA, etc. Once evidence has been presented by Baker Tilley and proof accepted that there were severe financial irregularities by former owners/executives at the Club, then in my opinion the FL will have no alternative but to apply swingeing points penalties at least commensurate with those applied to Luton.
-
You see it as a request, but I see it as a categoric statement. In order to obtain the golden share, they are required to accept a 10 point deduction. It seems clear enough to me; if they don't accept the points deduction, then they don't get the share, therefore they cannot participate in the football leagues. If they are allowed to get away with it, they will have created a unique precedent. Other clubs and numerous supporters of those clubs which were penalised with points deductions for similar misdemeanours, will be very angry and make things very difficult for the FL. It wouldn't surprise me if the chairmen of those clubs banded together and sought the support of several other chairmen who would sympathise with the injustice and force through an amendment to the FL decision. After all, it is a members' club, not run solely for the benefit of the Skates to the detriment of the other members, many of whom would gain an advantage by their demise.
-
Whereas I agree to a certain extent about the outside bodies that oversee footballing matters, I disagree about the legal side of things. The Skates might have bamboozled a judge to allow them to continue when they were clearly trading while insolvent before, but I doubt whether they would get away with it again. And I don't believe that sentiment, or the desire not to be seen as the judge and jury who killed off the Skates will be factors in any legal jurisdiction concerning them in future. The framework of the legal process, judgements regarding precedent and the possibility that the judgement would probably be challenged by many other parties with counter-interests will determine that the letter of the law will be applied the next time they are up before the beak.

Having seen him play in the last few games for Sweden, he has exuded class and ran the midfield. His passing has been exemplary, eptomised by the killer ball for Sweden's 2nd goal last night. He seems to have kept himself in good shape too.

Reasonable is certainly the better word, but whichever word best describes him to one individual, will be disputed by another. Many will argue that in order to succeed in business, a person might have to develop a ruthless streak, be decisive, step on a few toes and ruffle a few feathers along the way, making decisions that upset a few but which are deemed to be for the long term good. Some people do not have the knack of diplomacy, or come across as being a bit abrupt. It can be argued too that naked ambition and the single-minded pursuit of success are not good characteristics in an individual. I am not saying that there aren't successful top company executives who are warm and cuddly individuals, universally loved and admired by their employees, but I suspect that such near perfect beings are probably as rare as hen's teeth. As long as Cortese brings success to our club and moves us forward, then personally I'm not that bothered by allegations that he is not a nice person, especially as they have not been substantiated to my satisfaction. Dark forces? Who knows? But the impression is given at least that there are people out there who for whatever reason continue to snipe at the club and the people involved with running it, through Chinese Whispers. Some of them might be Skates, in the same way that we have infiltrated their forums. Others might be people involved with the last regime with an axe to grind. As for individuals who have been slighted in some way, what would they like as an alternative? A Supporters Trust? I suspect that even if the club were to be owned by the fans, there would still be this petty bickering amongst them.

Just the same as the England team are out of their depth too, playing friendly matches against teams who would have been considered inferior before, but who are now capable of trouncing us and punishing individual errors by defenders and the goalkeeper. Does it sound familiar?

Define normal. Perhaps he is the epitome of what constitutes normal for somebody Italian with a background in banking, in the same way that Rupert was your normal bloke with a public school background. I suspect that those who run football clubs, or indeed any similar type of business, are not your average "normal" individuals. But so what?
