Cortese has left Southampton Football Club - Officially Confirmed
Jai27 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Wow. That was an interesting read. Some pretty specific details in there... It's been stated a few times on here recently that Cortese and his PR team have been using the Daily Mail to leak stories, and this piece certainly makes him out to be the good guy. -
I think someone needs a cuddle.
-
The opening post was utterly ridiculous. The replies followed suite.
-
To be fair, I'd resign as well if we signed Long.
-
Don't worry I'm sure there will be 19th century paperboys running the streets with the news in a matter of minutes.
-
Everyone was talking about it on the tube this morning. Didn't you get the memo?
-
Pretty key point really. We have no factual details on what her intentions are at present. Fingers crossed for the best.
-
I'm calm Genuinely think that will happen is all. What's your take on it?
-
He'll leave. Almost certainly. After his previous statements he'll look like a bit of a tit if he doesn't. Same goes for a few of the players. In a few weeks time we'll have lost our chairman, manager, back room staff, key players and possibly our owners. If a new buyer does come in then that will be a very interesting day...

I knew a man once who said, "Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back." -
Soooooo, can Nige come back now?
-
I'd heard Bournemouth put an offer in for Guly...
-
When all is said and done, football is a form of entertainment. No one can say following Saints is dull...
-
Are Reed and Cortese not very close? Would he also leave?
-
I was trying to make a 'funny' but I obviously failed... On a serious note, I bet we'll have clubs queening up to plunder our squad now Cortese is out of the picture. Good opportunity for Katharina Liebherr to maximise profit? Then again I suppose without the squad in place the value of the club decreases fair bit...
-
Right then, if Cortese does go and Potch does follow with all his back room staff what happens then? I imagine Osvaldo may be a little ****ed off...
-
Not at all. I certainly wouldn't put myself in the Guly bashing camp either. He did a job for us and in league one and as a Saints supporter I'm very grateful for that. I'm simply saying that in my opinion after watching him in the championship (and his few brief appearances this season) he doesn't seem all that bothered any more.
-
Not true. There have been several occasions when he's looked like he couldn't give a toss and just lumbers around not doing much. Notably the home game against the skates when the only cheer he got was when he actually jumped for a ball for the first time. Come to think of it when was the last time anyone saw Guly sprint?
-
He hasn't done much right either though for the last few years... On subject, Guly was the one who injured Lee. Training accident so I was led to believe? Can't be helped though, these things happen. Just very unfortunate that it wasn't the other way around.
-
Yup. Bit of a shame really, but it's certainly time to move on. We'll never know what could have been thanks to Guly...

I get the impression for the BBC's match preview that Simon Brotherton is not a fan of Saints this week... "Southampton, who according to their manager are missing out on some decisions this season because they're too nice, ended up with only nine on the pitch by the final whistle." Match Facts - Southampton Southampton are without a clean sheet in five home league matches, having kept four in a row in September and October. Despite their reputation as a neat passing team, statistically they play more long balls per game (an average of 70) than any other side in the Premier League. Their players have been caught offside 63 times this season, more than other side. Adam Lallana has been dispossessed 48 times this campaign, more than any other player in the division, while Jay Rodriguez has lost the ball due to a poor touch more times (52) than any other.
-
Why is Shane Long being mentioned around here? He's terrible. May as well just get Billy back if we want someone of similar ability.
-
Someone else mentioned it awhile back but could it be possible that we've maxed out the transfer budget for this season already? If MP thinks we don't need anyone else then so be it, but imo we could do with at least one new addition.
-
Agreed. Although Victor is almost certainly a better player than Cork, I still feel confident when his name pops up in the starting 11. The same can't be said about our current keeper situation...
