Let's hope Chelsea play like they did last night. Unfortunately, I can't see them turning in two **** poor performances like that in a row.
-
Disappointing really, lost to two easily avoidable goals. apart from an early 5 minute spell Arsenal struggled to open us up from open play. Positives: Wanyama was outstanding, JWP adapted well at RB second half, Hooiveld did a decent job. Negatives: Lambert wasn't really in it, Osvaldo did little. Our attacking was pretty poor as soon as Lallana went off, bizarre sub unless he had a knock. Struggled to create after that. Can't say I'm looking forward to Danny Fox's probable reappearance against Chelsea next Sunday.

Southampton will stay out of January transfer market, says Pochettino

Good call IMO, players like Reed, Rowe & Gallagher look promising (Reed in particular) but we won't know if they are really up to it unless they get time in the league. -
Being labelled worse than Raheem Sterling is just brutal, hope the slaughtering Rodriguez is getting does not ruin his confidence.

quotes from Hodgson after the game re: AL and J-Rod http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/england-0-2-chile-mirror-player-2796133 Looks like The Mirror are all too happy to give Rodriguez a kicking. He was poor, he wasn't the worst player on the pitch though.
-
56 minutes is far too little to write off Rodriguez ever having an international career. However unless he gets another chance off the bench on Tuesday and impresses, He may have to wait until the World Cup finishes to get another look.
-
Lallana looked OK, worth another go at least, J-Rod not so much, but he's normally playing in a side that allows the attacking players freedom of position when in possession. Let's be honest though, not one England player has played well at all tonight and certain players should be pleased that they have already guaranteed places in the squad.
-
Rodriguez only looks good for us when he is given license to rotate with the CF, never looks comfortable when he is asked to stay out wide and also why he looked so underwhelming for us under Adkins.
-
Dreadful from England, Lallana has been as good as anyone out there for them (not saying much, really), Rodriguez has been poor unfortunately. Would not be shocked if he doesn't come out for the second half. No way Clyne is worse than Johnson. Chile play an a good pressing game (sounds familiar) and England look clueless as to how to stop them.

Can't see Inter wanting to get rid of Alvarez anymore given the way he's playing under their new manager.
-
Wonder if that includes JWP?

If this piece from the DM is anything to go by I imagine NC is pretty happy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2378319/Southampton-chairman-Nicola-Cortese-People-thought-I-E-T-I-Ianded-Saints.html Relevant bit:

Poor game overall, if this was a final chance for the likes of Yoshida, Lee and Fox to show they can contribute positively to the team, they have failed miserably. Why did Maya decide to leave the ball for the first? KD made the initial save, all Yoshida had to do was put his foot through it. Why did Fox come right across to the other side of the pitch to slide in like that? He left Larsson completely free to run in and score.
-
It may be tougher second half if Poyet brings on Fletcher and Borini, Altidore has been dreadful for them.
-
Cork, Hooiveld & Chambers playing well. Chambers best player so far though, not let a single cross come in. Reed looks decent so far, some good tackles and keeping the passes nice and simple. Odd time he's been overpowered, but given his size and lack of experience in how to overcome such a handicap, that's bound to happen. Hopefully at some point during the second half we see Lallana on for Lee with Rodriguez shifted up front.
-
Unfortunately it's weakened side as expected, but it will be interesting to see how Reed gets on.

Provisional squad for the game, taken from the mirror's preview: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-team-news-pochettino-set-2678454?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Provisional squad: K Davis, Gazzaniga, Clyne, Chambers, Shaw, Fox, Targett, Lovren, Hooiveld, Yoshida, Fonte, McCarthy, Stephens, Schneiderlin, Cork, S Davis, Ward-Prowse, Wanyama, Lallana, Rowe, Reed, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Osvaldo, Lambert, Lee, Sinclair

The u21s have a closed doors friendly against Charlton this afternoon, this is the team #SaintsFCU21s team versus #CAFC U21s: Johns, Young, McCarthy, Debayo, Targett, Gape, Robinson, Flannigan, Moore, Rowe, Sinclair. Britt (GK), Mason, Colmer, Sims, Seager. No Isgrove, Reed, Stephens or Turnbull, maybe on the bench/starting tomorrow?
-
We should go for it, nothing beats a cup win and we'd get European Football next season. On top of that, from next season (2014/15) the winner of the EL gets a CL spot so it is very much worth participating in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22640095

We were OK, think Stoke had prepared better for the conditions. Wanyama was MoM,
-
We struggled to pass the ball with the wind behind us second half. So many over hit passes.
-
About as dominant a performance as you are likely to see in the PL first half.
-
Do we really need to spend 10m on a CB when Fonte has been excellent alongside Lovren so far this season? Obviously there's no room for sentiment etc etc, but why break up a strong pairing like Lovren/Fonte mid-season?

Post Match Reaction: Manchester United 1-1 SAINTS
Bewildered replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Judging by the increased amount of ground he is covering this season he's simply fitter. In the past he has done well at the start of the season, picked up an injury and not looked the same upon his return. Be interesting to see how good a season he could have if he could go without an injury.
