Excellent, thanks for the update Monk. I think getting Alderweireld and Bertrand done will leave us with one, maybe two players to bring in next Summer, a back up striker and back up keeper. I don't think we'd be able to improve on any other player at the moment.

He would be brought in as back up to Pelle, give him a few season to learn his trade then into the first team.

Just a hypothetical one. Is Jay Rod that good? He's played well for 6 months since he's been here, just not sure whether the playing badly is the anomaly, or the playing well? After a massive injury will he be the same? Just playing devils advocate here.

I agree that no-one saw this coming, the quick gelling etc, and congratulations have to go to the club, manager and players for this. My biggest problem all through this Summer with Blackmore was this insistence in mid May that players outside of those that didn't have new contracts were angry at the fact they hadnt been offered them over a year before their contracts ran out. I'm sorry, but that is ********, that is not how life is and is a blatant excuse for the players that left to justify them leaving. Blackmore backed the wrong side.

And this is it. If they are lying IT IS his problem, as his sources are then bad. It's not his sources problem. That is what I think you don't understand and why Blackmore is more badly thought of now than before the Summer. He was sucked in and now looks a bit of an idiot. And I'm not comparing him against other journalists, they're all agenda driven liars. It's a shame you got so sucked in by him this summer and now it's too late to go back and admit you were wrong. I get that, you believed him and he let you down. You were once relatively respected on this site, but after this Summer's debacle it's all fallen apart. New identity needed I think, it sometimes works for the better.

This is the point, and what he was questioned on consistently during the Summer and couldn't defend. Blackmore spent his time during May trying to destabilise my club further, with half truths and no evidence. He had the chance a number of times to ask high ranking officials at the club about all the above but never took the opportunity because he knew the information was biased and not complete. What I don't understnd is why you continue to defend the guy, and you can't see him for what he is, a local hack and Pompey fan. Let's fact check his stuff: 1. There is no evidence that Lallana et al were annoyed that Fonte and Cork hadnt been offered new contracts by mid May last year. 2. There is no evidence that the majority of the squad disliked the current board. 3. He never told us what this irrepairable differences were. Would have been easy to tell us but decided not to, sp Bo evidence that these existed. 4. The players were a good group who were no trouble. Considering the way Lallana, Lovren and Schneiderlin acted in the Summer there is much evidence to the contrary for this. 5. Things will come out in the wash. Yes they have, from the opposite side, hence why a lot of ex players are bow hated. 6. Players angry at lack of communication. This is one of the most pathetic ones. We asked him many times what the players wanted to hear, what needed clarifying at that specific time and he never released that info. Why have you naively followed his version as gospel this Summer, what has he said backed up by evidence that has made you trust him unconditionally?

See the funny thing is I heard a lot from the corridors as well, but the discontent and panic from those not agitating for a move was nowhere near what was reported by the media and by some people on this site. I never said nothing Blackmore said was true, what I was saying is he was being used by the players that wanted out and naively didn't think about the fact that they could be massively exaggeratino/lying to him to make the club look bad.

Why would players who are off in holiday be annoyed that their colleagues haven't been offered new contracts when they still have over a year left? 2. They don't know what was happening in response to what? It was the end of the season, what did they want? The club were waiting to find out if they needed a new manager. Surely you know nothing can really be done and agreed until a manager has been appointed. 3. This doesn't seem to have any relevance to any of the above. 4. Again, why would players get that annoyed about Fonte's contract? And he's signed one now, do you think those players regret wanting to leave because Jose didn't have a new contract? 6. Traitor Lallana doesn't like Reed? I trust Clattenburg is a better judge of character than Lallana personally. I also thought it was the whole board, and a lot of the players? I notice you left out the ones about them being a good group of lads. I assume you decided against that as they ended up shaming themselves with their atrocious behaviour. I also never said you were ashamed of the club? I said you should be ashamed of your behaviour, you did a Lallana to the club this Summer, yet you still try to deny it.

I know he'd take the words of those players that left, but they were trying to make the club look bad so people wouldn't blame them for leaving. It was bull****, Blackmore reported it, you gobbled it up and thought the club was imploding. I don't trust many journalists, certainly not Crooks and 110% not Blackmore, because they are local hacks trying to get to the big time. Your sycophantic nature towards someone who badmouthed the club you support all off season was pretty disgusting, and i can't understand why you'd turn on the club so quickly, especially when Blackmore didn't once back his claims up in interviewing Krueger. Your loyalty was with a local hack, and a number of greedy, disloyal players, and not with the club. For that, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself.

The problem is you have to know which information is good and which is bad, it's part of the skill of being a journalist. Shows why he is still (and will always be) a local journalist. Just because you spent your Summer rimming the guy, does not mean what he reported was correct, and certainly was not in the best interest of Southampton Football Club. He was one of the big reasons you lot wet the bed, so I am surprised you still defend him, considering he made you all look, frankly, like idiots.
