Not hiring a top class, big name manager to replace Koeman in the summer of 2016. We were such an attractive prospect - just finished 6th in the league, a Europa campaign to come and a really good squad of players.
-
Amazing what can happen when you pick your best team and tell them to try and win a game rather than not to lose one.
-
Totally unproductive day at work as kept checking here every 5 mins to see if he's been sacked. This whole season has been abysmal and the sad thing is it could have been totally avoidable . The failure to appoint Pellegrini after Koeman left, the failure to replace Fonte, the failure to sack MP after the Leicester game, the failure to replace Van Dijk, the failure to get a pacy winger in ( and the general planning in this transfer window).......the club is a complete joke right now. And sadly some fans are now having a pop at Le Tiss. Please Les - do the right thing, put our club before your ego and sack MP and pay Koeman whatever it takes for him to get us out of this mess.
-
MOTD extra mentioned an issue with Silva was his reluctance to change tactics and insisting on only playing one up front - sound familiar? I'd support him if he came him but would still prefer Koeman personally.
-
Too many times. Always in the hope of seeing a top sticky thread with Pellegrino sacked ☹
-
Please, just go.
-
Utterly pathetic - get Koeman in now and see if he can salvage something of this shambles of a season.
-
I think if both sides swallow their pride than definitely Koeman. Although wouldn't be adverse to Adkins or Pardew either.
-
We really should have ripped into them especially after our early goal. Shocking, negative tactics. How we are 9th I don't know.
-
I would no question. Some managers/clubs are just a perfect fit.
-
Due to fly to Orlando on Wednesday so thought this game would be a nice relief from the stress. I was wrong.
-
That was a very good read. Thinking it may not be a bad shout - but would need an experienced assistant though.
-
Has to be a big name to get the players and fans onside - Pellegrini or LVG for me.
-
Fantastic result - well done Saints. Just goes to show the difference having a quality striker makes to the team. With VVD and Caceres to come in should be a decent finish to the season.
-
To be fair I'm sure the majority on here would rather Adkins than Eric Black as a caretaker if Puel either resigns or gets sacked!
-
I'm not suggesting Adkins as a long term solution by any means, but until the end of the season. Its clear from his tweets and attending matches that he still cares deeply about the club, and let's not forget that he was actually doing a pretty good job until he was sacked, and showing he was getting to grips with the prem. I'm pretty confident that he would get us more wins than Puel - along with better quality football too.

Don't post much on here, and usually I'm a 'glass half full' guy but today was the last straw. This season has been an absolute shambles and it started in the summer. Manuel Pellegrini wanted to come here as manager. Think about that for a minute -Manuel Pellegrini, a premier league winning manager who also did a terrific job at clubs in similar stature to us in Spain wanted to be Southampton manager! But no, Les Reed in all his arrogance decided not to appoint him as he is 'not a tracksuit manager'. Sorry?? I thought it was the coaches who coach the players and the managers job is to decide style of play, tactics, does the press and has a big input in signings??? He also doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke who would be demanding players left right and centre. But anyway Les went for Puel - basically a yes man. He has no experience of managing outside of France, but will be grateful to Les for the opportunity to manage in the premier league he will go along with anything Les says. Our league campaign has been shocking, drab, negative. It could have been so much more. The less said about the Europa league the better! People may defend Les and Claude and point to the league cup campaign but what did we do realistically - beat a couple of premier league reserve teams. Yes, the two Liverpool games were great but even then it turned out to be a lot closer than it should have been! The defence situation is just a farce - nothing more can be said about that. Fully expect Gabiaddini to go the way of PEH - start out really promising but to have the creativity coached out of him by Puel and Black. What should happen now? If Puel had any dignity he should resign first thing in the morning. Ultimately no top manager will come in now, so hand it to Nigel Adkins u til the end of the season. Hopefully this should get all the fans on side, scrape enough points to stay up and maybe with a stroke of luck win the cup?! Then in the summer go all out for a top manager - Manicini, Pellegrini or even Silva. He has certainly understood how this league works , and he's only been here a month, none of this it takes time for a manager to get his ideas across that our players have been saying. Sorry for being overly negative - I just thought that this season had the makings of being a special one. OK, it may still be if we win the cup, but not getting my hopes up.

The 94/95 Premier Years was on Sky yesterday. A lot of people forget just what a good season that was for us! Le Tiss in his pomp, we won lots of exciting games scoring loads and Bally had us playing really good football.

I'm sure there is nothing to worry about with this. Ronald strikes me as a man of integrity. He has signed a contract and would fully intend to see it through. He appears to love the job and also enjoys living in the area (judging by his tweets). He is not a 'career' manager looking for the next big job (unlike a certain Argentinean). I would fully expect him to stay here for at least the next three years (hopefully longer) build something really special here at Saints and then take up the Holland job after.
-
Him and Adam were a class above tonight.
-
I'm a huge MP fan, and think he has done wonders for our club, and nothing would please me more if I woke up tomorrow morning to hear that he had just signed a 5 year contract. But it is quite clear now he wants to leave, the passion is no longer there, (the FA cup game and still not speaking English to the media proves that) and he should do right by the club by stepping down now so we can plan for next season.

Sounds like Hughes is playing the first team in the cup tonight, and they arent too young a team so definately a winnable game on Saturday as we will be fresh. Keep same team as the weekend, going for 2-0 Jay R and Fonte.
