Alot of Internet hardmen being nasty bullies but not alot of positives Please dont embarrass yourselves further with the personal threats and name calling. Cortese appointed Reed to oversee the youth academy.... Its a big jump to executive director and "in charge of everything at the club"
-
Lots of negatively around just now. Thought id bump this and see if we can draw out a few positives. Positivity beats Negativity.... Ill start... We've only lost once in the league this season VVD will be back playing soon Things can only get better
-
Its funny reading the original "Cortese has left Southampton Football Club - Officially Confirmed" thread and seeing the same posters now slagging Cortese were in full meltdown when he left. He was "simply the best" but now a waste of space.... Apparently Only on SWF
-
Might try and keep a log of the Cortese myths - So far we have..... 1) Changing the bathroom tiles added £20m to the overall cost of the training ground 2) He's apparently desperate to get back into football but has been declined at every turn 3) He is a dictator and hated by employees 4) Spent club money on personal housing project 5) club would be in administration now had he not been sacked 6) he was fired

Source?

Its all been to comfortable IMHO. Targets and ambitions appear to have been weighted towards financial rather than performance driven and player and staff recruitment at all levels has been poor for a while. Club needs a decent shake up at all levels - do the new owners have ambitions? Or will they simply continue to milk the club for personal gains?

Could take a while for the damage Puel done to be squeezed out of the club and players. Still feels like the hangover from the failed Puel era is affecting the club, players and fans. Could take months
-
Kat, Ralph and Leslie?
-
Non of this was predictable or avoidable. Nobody has been talking about the club decline the hiring and firing issues and the complacency issues. Nobody
-
Wasn't 95% of the squad from Nicolas era? But i agree we did it completely without Nics help
-
Read my post again. Its not always just about the results... #Compatability

Wasn't our debt relatively small comparatively? Wasn't it also essential given we were new to the premier league and wanted to be competitive.? Doesn't every club have debt and aren't most chairman spending someone elses money???

what tough questions would you ask?

People get hung up on the amount of games and get all upset when managers are fired. Reality is hes been in and around the club 2 months - the club would be monitoring everything and ultimately seeing if he fits the club. I can normally evaluate someones working talents in a week or less - not sure why football managers need to be given a year to prove themselves. If the manager and club don't align for any reason then cut ties - find someone that does fit better. you don't need to drag the whole process out. Hiring a manager is like getting a new girlfriend - they might look great and dress well, but after 2 weeks seeing her each night you might decide she is a pain in the ass and youre simply not compatible.... My advise - Don't drag the relationship out for a year in the hope that she changes.

I presume he went back to banking? Get the feeling the flurry into football was more a favor for his good friend Markus rather than a desired future permanent career move. Still with zero experience and a total disrespect for the football hierarchy he did a bloody good job. -10 league one to top 10 premier league. its an easy job :) Waltzes in - smashes it, drops mic and leaves. Kudos Some people have been in the game 50+ years and achieved less than Nic. I can imagine that riles some people up
-
Think youre confusing building with inheriting. Our little Italian banker aka "Mr 4 years" built the mansion, Leslie aka Mr 50 years just had to water the plants..... Not sell everything.... Doh
-
Sad indictment if the premier league mate. Top 6 and the rest I'm afraid 6 months is a long time in the premier league and while we've largely stood still other clubs have now closed the gap or (Everton) now stronger than us. You can be bang average and still 7th best - welcome to the premier league these days squire
-
If Silva takes Watford from 17th to 8th with that Watford squad then he would have done amazing. Top 10 is the absolute limit for that Watford squad. Puel took us from 6th (63 points) to 8th (46 points) with easily the 7th best squad in the premier league. FYI he (Puel) wasn't sacked for finishing 8th. He was sacked for his horrendous football, lack of goals and relationships with players and fans. HTH
-
Didnt we finish with 46 points? Think 44 points had you finishing 14th last season - it was that tight. Agreed though +46 points and +41 goals and hes done one up on Puel. Only needs a single win over the top 6 teams too as Puel failed there miserably. If Puel had stayed this season a relegation battle was almost guaranteed. Club definitely made the right choice to dump him, sadly not sure Pellegrino was the right choice to move us forward.
