  1. What we need to hope that is in his contract is a restrictive covenant. It is this express clause that will stop him going to work, and more importantly, share knowledge. In practice they are hard to police and the courts do not like them to be overly onerous. If one is in his contract, you could reasonably expect protection until the end of the January transfer window, but not the summer. Unfortunately, because we appear to work 18 months in advance, if he goes, his knowledge would still be current. I agree with the sentiments, Spurs and Levy are c*nts!
  2. Currently, any Tottenham or Liverpool fans are fair game, and I particularly enjoy the Brenda quote re ambitions and sympathy. I also do my best to emulate our Ron's Sunderland look. With the Arsenal fans I just play along with the bubble is about to burst tactic and finally, with United, I find the "should have kept Moyes" works a treat. I know it's puerile but we are second in the table after all these clubs tried to stop us gate crashing their party.
  3. The advantage that we have in these run of games is we have nothing to lose, whereas they cannot dare lose. It's a very different mindset and one that I think works massively in our favour. The longer the game goes on and we're not losing, the more the pressure shifts to the "big" club.
  4. Not been a good week as he has been joined in the band in the sky by reggae legend, John Holt. John sadly collapsed when here in the UK in the summer while on stage at the One Love Festival and while initial reports suggested his death was backstage, he never recovered and passed away this week. I've been listening to 1000 Volts of Holt and Police and Helicopter a fair few times since hearing the news. I'll now add a bit of Sunshine of your Love into the mix.
  5. He'll have "options" that's for sure! Maybe the wise owl that is RH, is feeling guilty that by recognising our players and giving them international caps, they get tapped up by the likes of Stevie G et al; get poached by one of the big clubs for a ridiculous transfer and generally then get to either sit on the subs bench or get slated by the Liverpool fans and he doesn't want that fate to befall Clyne
  6. Both brilliant, just in very different ways. I think the reason MLT didn't get as many caps as he should have was the perception of his character and the managers of the time preferring Teddy Sheringham. I mean, even our very own Ian Branfoot wouldn't give him a game! Beckham though was the best at what he did. Waddle's assessment that he didn't have a trick is very misleading, he didn't need one because as long as he had enough space to deliver the ball, that is what he did, both consistently and he was the best in the world at it. You don't play and be successful at the clubs he did if you're ****e!
  7. Quality cricketer no doubt, but to have fallen out to some degree wherever he has played does suggest that KP is the problem, not everyone else!
  8. Just read that he has a suspected fractured cheekbone and eye socket from the 26th minute but turned in a MOTM performance as the Rabbitohs won the Grand Final. He is one seriously hard fella!!
  9. When I played rugby for Bracknell, we had a female physio, who used to place a really heavy leather mat over your groin. Her saying was "If you can move that, I'm interested, if you can't, I'm not"! The physio from AC Milan would need one made from bloody concrete!
  10. My missus loves him for a start, alas she says, not literally and can't he get some of those really tight Alexis Sanchez type shorts; which i thought was a bit too much!
  11. I used to go over and stand in the kids section when they built that stupid upper stand on the Milton. Being considerably taller than my Dad, I used to stand right back against the barrier with him directly behind me so once the game started I'd "smuggle him in so he could see". Before that I can't remember where we were, halfway line I think but back then, I remember wearing a Steve Williams shirt and was gutted when he left for Arsenal. Don't think that that was the happiest of moves either.
  12. I think he looks like he could be a real handful now that he has scored a couple of goals and his confidence is up. My missus thinks he's a quality bit of eye candy and has made it into her fantasy team....Not sure she does the Telegraph one like me mind!
  13. I think Brian Reade should be banned from any journalism again, what is he doing posting a positive article about the Saints ffs??? The other couple of differences I would want to add is that: a) I'm not sure of the motivation of the players, is it to win things or the money? and b) they are not used to tournament football which you can see from the attitude of the players and the clubs to the U21 tournament, most cry off and its not as if they're playing 50 games a season!
  14. All good choices too. What never fails to amaze me is the amount of music Jamaica has produced, they are to music what our Academy is to football. While no reggae artist is ever likely to scale the heights of Bob Marley again, the layers below are just equally fantastic. I have been listening to the Twinkle Brothers, Countrymen while driving around today and some of the tracks are truly outstanding yet hardly anyone will have ever heard of them; which is such a waste. I'm off to the One Love festival this weekend, Rooftop Sound are playing the Sunday so putting aside our city rivalry and off to support them and looking forward to the likes of the Wailing Souls and John Holt.
  15. Agree whole-heartedly with the sentiments. Only came alive in the six yard box and doesn't have the ability for where Saints are wanting to be (17th upwards I sometime think) but will absolutely do a great job at Championship level. In Leeds he really has joined a sleeping giant with an absolute nutter of a Chairman. A lot of my work colleagues are Leeds fans and while some still harbour the days when they were in Europe and battling for the league, the saner ones think he is a prudent buy and is a pretty good replacement for McCormack and the £11m remains to bolster elsewhere.
  16. [video=youtube_share;qTmGY8ju63E] Four minutes in, the magic that is Babylon Falling by the Twinkle Brothers. Over the summer, it has felt that St Mary's has been the epicentre of Babylon!!!
  17. Katherine has a few quid, wonder if she'd be interested? Talking Heads tries hard but isn't great, the Brook has its moments but seems to have gone down the tribute route mainly. Not sure if the Joiners is still open? Guildhall is rubbish and the best place used to be the Wedgewood Rooms but I think the venue likes to self-promote so been a while since they had anyone really decent. Portsmouth Guildhall has a number of rooms they use but none are really any good. All in all, given the catchment area and student populations, we are pretty poorly served.
  18. For me, Primal Scream at the Barrowlands in Glasgow somewhere around 2000 when XTRMNTR came out. Place was absolutely rocking; the whole venue became a mosh pit whether you wanted to or not! Nowhere down south comes close to somewhere like the Barras. We are bereft of a decent venue in either Southampton or Portsmouth that is of that size, can attract top bands and create that same atmosphere. Our crowds are just a bit quiet and reserved compared to the Wegies! Without doubt, Southampton Guildhall is absolutely atrocious acoustically to the extent I don't even bother now.
  19. Yep, Lee Scratch Perry was unbelievable around this time, the Black Ark studio was churning out classic after classic!
  20. Given my tastes are a little different to most of the posters: 1. The Wailers - Burnin' 2. Misty In Roots - Live at the Counter Eurovision 3. Joe Higgs - Life of Contradiction 4. The Upsetter presents Max Romeo - War Ina Babylon 5. Bunny Wailer - Black Heart Man Honourable mentions to Prince Buster for The Outlaw, Toots and the Maytals for Funky Kingston and Culture for Two Sevens Clash.
  21. They must have done some You Tube scouting, I was selling him for £2m but for that, I'd drive him up there and happily lose my hubcaps!
  22. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/493757/Man-Utd-Liverpool-and-Chelsea-receive-boost-after-Saints-are-told-to-up-Marcos-Rojo-bid Not sure why this encourages the other teams mentioned although a CB for Man Utd looks the most viable. How much of the pot will go on his wages though?
  23. Could be that because van Gaal likes to play wing backs, all the bulking up he has done is detrimental to that role and therefore more aerobic and cardiovascular fitness is important for it? I prefer the fact he has been partying and eating kebabs though. Maybe Evra gave him Ben Arfa's mobile as a parting gift...
  24. Can Van Basten, Gullit or De Boer still do a job? Guaranteed starters in our XI at the moment! You have to have some level of self-belief if you back yourself to build a team/squad that can play and be competitive at the EPL level, virtually from scratch in less than three weeks. He must have bigger balls than Van Gaal!
  25. http://www.itv.com/sport/football/article/2014-07-28/spurs-close-on-southampton-duo-rodriguez-schneiderlin/ Picked up by ITV Sport. I think that even the most positive of fans can be allowed at least a little dribble of anxiety.
