  1. I just published "Good Riddance Harry Redknapp." http://redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk/ http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/
  2. Even so, why not predict QPR to win 2-1. His friends would be just as happy and he would be more likely to get the score right.
  3. Don't forget Lloris. Those three seem to be virtually the entire team.
  4. He is quoted as saying: 'It was a team with a lot of problems, with players like Adam Lallana who wasn’t playing and Luke Shaw who wasn’t playing but in one and a half years we turned it round. "We brought a lot of young players through and finished eighth. It is always easier taking over a winning team which is the case this time with Ronald [Koeman]. We came here and had to reinvent things. We always laugh about it because we left a team at Southampton that practically trained itself after a year and a half to come here where we had to recreate everything that we had done at Southampton, pretty much from zero, but it’s a great challenge." This has to be one of the most bizarre bunch of claims I have ever read. Didn't Tottenham finish 2 spots and 13 points ahead of Southampton last year? Does that mean that Sherwood was doing more last year with zero than MP is doing this year? And we didn't invest 80 million euros last summer. We net disinvested nearly 30 million pounds. I am pretty sure Lallana was playing whenever he was not injured--he was the captain after all and played in 30 league games. Shaw took the left back job from Fox in November and played from then on except when he was injured--playing 25 league games. Actually, I have to admit this quote is basically correct: "They are powerful clubs and you have United with the monstrous amount of money they spent last summer. We are going to try to compete against them because we are winners and everything is possible in football but the financial reality is that we are a long way from them."
  5. I posted "I Make Predictions (Round 24)."
  6. Of course, they might decided to pay if they get relegated.
  7. One of the hosts of ESPN FC is also a Southampton fan.

Shouldn't the player want to be sold as cheaply as possible so that his new team has the money to strengthen even more? Also, despite beliefs to the contrary we did not have lots and lots of money to spend in January if we are going to show a FFP profit for this season and I believe there are good reasons to do so if we think we might qualify for Europe.
  9. Rule V.7.3: if during the period of a Temporary Transfer the Player’s registration is transferred permanently from the Transferor Club to the Transferee Club, the two Clubs may agree in writing (to be copied to the League) that the Player shall not play against the Transferor Club for the remainder of the Season;
  10. Unless the transfer agreement specifically prohibits this which is allowable under the rules. Also, if we qualify for European football this fills one of our four association trained slots with a good player.
  11. Schneiderlin's recent outbreak of good manners on twitter can only be a bad sign.
  12. will that include own goals?
  13. It is still an international transfer so the FAs have to be involved.
  14. I hope so. Many footballers never recover from possession by evil spirits.
  15. He is contracted through 2018. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/25072014-harrison-reed-new-contract-1782549.aspx
  16. Setting aside cash flow issues, because none of us know when the money comes in and goes out, we have three players that we have the option to buy at the end of the season--that requires money. Also, it would probably be helpful for Financial Fair Play purposes to show a profit this year--although that won't matter so much if we don't qualify for Europe. Some of the 30 million is needed to give increases in pay to current players. Certainly, Clyne will need a chunk of that to agree to stay.
  17. If we were fully healthy Schneiderlin could play that role with Reed back with Wanyama. I suspect it will never happen though--possibly because we will never be fully healthy.
  18. Agree.
  19. He was playing his first season for the Aston Villa having graduated just spent two years with their youth set up. He got 91 games in three years with them scoring 5 goals. I have no idea how good he was and I quickly couldn't locate individual year by year stats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Davis http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=35928
  20. Since the internet offers so many opportunities to get into pointless debates where I am tempted to insult people who disagree with me on issues where logic and facts are unlikely to persuade them to my point of view, I decided to stay out of this debate. Therefore, I will limit myself to strongly agreeing with you. The subsequent sentences from this reply have been rewritten a few times and then finally deleted in what I believe to be an exercise in good judgment.
  21. Somewhere between 0 and five.
  22. No. It is not that easy. Related party transactions are scrutinized and can cause a club to fail the FFP test. If we suddenly had huge commercial deals far beyond what is reasonable, they would be discounted to fair value. Also, Ms. Liebherr would need a relative to contribute his or her actual money since clearly it would violate the rules to launder her own money this way. See this: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27243933 On the other hand, if we had some rich fan with no ownership interest in the club, that might be different. If Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, for example, wanted to pay us 50 million a year to name the stadium as they would like ("Microsoft presents St. Mary's Stadium" or "GEICO Park", perhaps) that would be FFP compliant. Alas, such things are unlikely and would undoubtedly irritate many fans. If we really want to make more money this way, we have to do it the hard way by convincing potential sponsors to sign on with us. We do this by winning, playing attractive football, and getting good publicity in places like the USA, Japan, South Korea, China, and so forth. I really think there ought to be a way to use Ralph Krueger's Hockey connections to do something--although I admit I don't know exactly what. There might be some way to link up with the New Orleans Saints using the common name for joint publicity, but again I am not an expert on exactly what or how.
  23. Looks that way to me on TV.
  24. He joined us on 7 July 2011, not in League One. His return from injury in the fall of 2012 was when our season turned around. He was only overshadowed after Wanyama arrived, and not always then.
  25. Given Financial Fair Play and her unwillingness to travel back in time and spend hundreds of millions of pounds 5 or ten years ago, yes she is not good enough to buy our way into the Champions League.
