  1. You do realize that, eventually, no matter what you do you are going to die?
  2. Except that all our good young players can still play because they don't go on the "A List" European roster. I discussed this whole subject on my blog. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/01/southamptons-european-roster-issues.html Also, it is not like we are really falling away from a golden age of homegrown players. English FA trained players we have and they are not that hard to come by. Club trained home grown players are a different matter. This year Schneiderlin is our only club trained player. Last year we also had Lallana. Next year we will add Isgrove (because he becomes old enough). The year after (2016-2017) several players will be old enough to fill club trained slots including Turnbull, Stephens, Gape, Rowe, Sinclair, and Ward-Prowse. Not all of them will be good enough to play for us in Europe, of course, but that is a different issue.
  3. You are right. I discussed it in more detail in my blog. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/01/european-qualification-rules-for.html
  4. The answer is almost certainly yes. The question is whether it would invest in enough cover soon enough. This is one reason third place is so much better than fourth place because you know you have qualified for the group stage and you know you will get at least 30 million euros. With fourth place you might end up in the Europa League and be lucky to get 5 million Euros. Agree with second point about fair play but that kind of fair play is simply not feasible in a league with relegation and the potential for European competition. The NFL has fair play in that sense but only because no team can get relegated and there is no competition other than the league itself.

  6. Ask at least one silly one.
  7. My suggested lineup--I know it won't happen. Forster Clyne Fonte Gardos Yoshida Wanyama Reed Elia Schneiderlin Mane Pelle I believe Schneiderlin can be effective in the more advanced roll and the extra defensive strength will help with West Ham's normal play style. If Cork were still with us I would play him instead of Reed in the more advanced role.
  8. It's about time someone put Bearsy in his place. His arrogant postings are the bane of this forum. I often wonder why the moderators haven't banned him for life.
  9. Maybe it was all a campaign to make Sky look bad.
  10. I posted "I make Predictions (Round 25)". It includes magic number updates. http://redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk/ http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/
  11. Agree. Right now he is very good. He may turn out to be less good in the future but that is true of anyone.
  12. Our pay scale counts as a big pay day by the standards of most of the world including nearly all French clubs.
  13. If he had a concussion, he cannot safely play on Wednesday. The process of returning to play after suffering a concussion takes a minimum of five days after symptoms cease. If he has no symptoms tomorrow and they do not reappear, he should not play until Friday. See these sites: http://www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/clinical-updates/general-medical/diagnosing-treating-sports-related-concussion http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/headsup/return_to_play.html
  14. Lovren isn't playing because his head has already moved on to somewhere else and his body hasn't figured out where yet.
  15. Is the sponsorship fee higher next year if Southampton qualifies for Europe?
  16. I do not know if he received a cut of all transfers. It might have been limited to ones where he was responsible for both the purchase and the sale. But that doesn't matter to me because the entire concept is a gross conflict of interest. Edit: I just found this https://www.westhamtillidie.com/posts/2014/10/02/in-defence-of-harry-redknapp So he received a bonus for his part in negotiating the sale of Rio Ferdinand to Manchester United. I suppose this is somewhat better than taking a percentage of the profit, but it still doesn't seem right to me. And this: http://www.socceramerica.com/article/24712/redknapps-disgrace-not-a-shock.html So now I have to buy and read "Broken Dreams" by Tom Bower. I think I need to get some sleep before today's game instead of haunting the internet.
  17. I don't see the problem. That is exactly what happened in my Football Manager 2010 Southampton save--although I have to admit it helped the Markus Liebherr kicked in a couple hundred million pounds every year.
  18. The issue had been bothering me for years and his recent rat like behavior just before QPR played us game me a vaguely appropriate reason to write it. Just wait until Jurgen Klinsmann is coaching a Premier League team we are about to play.
  19. I have just posted "Southampton's Magic Numbers." Warning, this is the type of post that could deprive Eurosaint of the will to live.
  20. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is played every two years.
  21. So--it is the best post of the day so far.
  22. Here are some nice typos for everyone. autocorvette dip thoughts adventures in bagelsitting the city and the stairs happiness is a worn puppy President Mitt Romney German economist opps I have changed subjects.
  23. The signing of Mitchell can only be viewed as an expression of Levy's intent to run things more sensibly in the future. The question is whether he has the patience and integrity to follow through.
  24. His skills almost certainly would have improved more had he stayed with Southampton. But he would have had less money and he would not have played in the Champions League. His English debut would have been delayed, but he would probably be a more secure part of the set up now. On the other hand, he has almost certainly earned at least 10 million pounds more by moving when he did. Most of us would switch jobs for that kind of money. It is not too much to hope for--only too much to expect. Agree. I think the policy of not speaking to the media only applies when there is trouble.
  25. I can't imagine what we might have done wrong that would warrant punishment. If the transfer was invalid, it was Arsenal that played the ineligible player. There can be no question of third party ownership since he came from the academy. If someone else thinks they have a financial claim, they can take it to court.
