  1. The same old same old from Batman. I think the give away here is “mentally ill” Batman. No one thinks that the abnormal actions of people who are mentally ill are “normal.”
  2. This could go in the Brexit thread too but given that the after effects of Brexit are still hamstringing our country I have put this year. https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/dec/27/charities-and-employers-struggling-due-to-post-brexit-funding-delays
  3. Very true Whelk. Power came back on at 11:30am so the pub will be fine as they are just over the road! A few villages left without power still but people rallying around with offers of places at the diner table, bbq’s and camper stoves (not ideal for the turkey but essential for a cuppa) so the Dunkirk spirt is alive and kicking in rural Kent. The power people have been excellent with constant updates by text and advice. It seems like a local pole burst into flames which knocked the power out at 7:30am. They managed to reroute most of the supplies and have arranged to bring in a generator to supply those still without power which should happen by about 2/3pm. I don’t know if they have pulled out all of the stops because it’s Christmas Day but it is good to see a utility service actually providing a service! As per your point Whelk, if the worst that happens is that some Christmas dinners end up a few hours late, there are many with greater things to worry about around the world today.
  4. Woke up this morning to find our village without power. Due back on at 11am. 😂 What a way to round off a crap year. Merry bloody Christmas!
  5. Jesus Christ you are desperate for an argument aren’t you! Not one person on this planet believes that they are holding out for19% apart from maybe you. The whole point is sitting around a table and negotiating a settlement, which they will have to do at some point. Thank God you are not part of the negotiating team from the Government side. Or perhaps you are? 🥴
  6. And still you go on about it despite not giving a monkeys. 🙄 Anyway, back to the subject in hand. A further raft of strikes due in the New Year, thousands of people without a water supply at Christmas. Record number of people using food banks. Warm banks set up across the country to try and help people from freezing to death. Despite our “wealth” and standing in the world, you would be forgiven for thinking we had become a third world country. As dear old Alpine would say, we a being run like a second rate seaside B & B. Yet there is still no sign of our latest PM getting a grip and sorting thing out. Happy days.
  7. Thanks for your opinion. If you don’t give a monkeys though, why bother to comment?
  8. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her statement and the only piss taking going on is of some bloke who still insists on calling women and girls “chicks” despite it not being the 1970’s any more. Nathan Redmond has not recently won a major honour, she and the Lionesses have and have proved to be great examples to girls in sport. Comparing your statement with hers, it’s not difficult to tell which of you is deluded.
  9. I doubt very much if they are Egg, but some might be. That isn’t my point. How would you feel if you had a stalker intent on posting mostly made up bollocks about you on an almost daily basis? I do mostly ignore him but occasionally I see something and bite. He has a small band of followers who repeat his BS and as I am sure you know, it doesn’t take much for BS to become “fact” on places like these. I’m sure people who have been reading here for years know exactly what his game is, but relatively new posters won’t. If he was to follow me about the streets calling me a “cock” he would get arrested, yet that behaviour is fine on an internet forum? You call me out for responding to my stalker but doesn’t it occur to you to call him out for his antisocial behaviour? You say you don’t take sides. Seems to me that you do.
  10. Not for me but then I am old school and think that hand ball should be deliberate. Now it seems if the ball hits you on the hand or arm there is a good chance of a penalty. They gave similar penalties in the WC even when players weren’t looking at the ball and had turned their backs.
  11. Or maybe it would suggest that you want to put the record straight for other readers who might actually fall for his guff? Obviously if I don’t see his posts I don’t worry about whether I should respond or not. If I see one of his posts quoted in another’s posters comment, I can ignore its content but it is harder not to read it. Does that make sense to you or do you want to continue to give the forum troll more support? Just so that we are clear, TUI inside became a much nicer environment to post in once he was banned and I am sure the same could be said for here. One of the reasons I don’t cough up £5 is posters like him, but if you want to believe that I have some kind of morbid fascination with him and need to interact with a strange individual who stalks people on the internet, knock yourself out Egg.
  12. Perhaps this is team for Brighton and he is given them more time to gel? Can’t see why else he would play so many defenders otherwise.
  13. You have to laugh at him. As usual no self awareness. As I say, poor man’s Jeremy Clarkson. Thinks himself smarter than he is. Finds targets to stalk and take a pop at whilst making himself look foolish. Judgemental to an absurd degree given his level of ignorance and constantly making up things to back up his ridiculously spurious arguments. He doesn’t like me because I have called him out for what he is, a dyed in the wool narcissist, much like Clarkson. Having been married to one and working with another for 22 years I know exactly what their personality traits are. He ticks all the boxes. The trouble with them is if you knock them off their pedestal, they come after you and do all they can to run you down, hence the bizarre constant stalking. Back to the show. Given that it won so many awards and was watched and read by so many, to dismiss it as just a show for virgins and nerds shows a level of ignorance know only to the resident WUM and troll. Anyone who has had more than a cursory glance at it will know that it is a very adult and well constructed show and way more than just a kids fantasy drama. It takes a strange kind of person to slag off something they know very little about, but that is my resident stalker for you. Still, it is his loss and he is the type who loves to wallow in his own ignorance whilst firing out pointless and misinformed barbs, much like his more famous mentor and hero, Jeremy Clarkson. I wonder if he too looks like a gnarled gonad? (Lapping it up, all attention is good attention eh Turkish? 😉) PS - how many times? You are on my ignore list (I know it grates as you crave attention) but that doesn’t prevent your posts (sadly) appearing on my screen when people quote you as Whitey Grandad did in this case 🙄. I have told you this countless time. Suewhistle has told you too. Are you really that dense that you still don’t understand how this works?
  14. I saw it. I saw all of the shows and read the books and enjoyed both. The trouble is that if you are going to be the forum too cool for school kid you are always going to look like a poor man’s Jeremy Clarkson. And getting back to him, he is another rent a gob who makes money out of being “controversial” like Katie Hopkins and Julie Burchill. Little wonder he is now peddling his shoddy wares for The Sun. The strangest thing about this episode is that the Queen Consort has invited two of her step daughter-in-law’s biggest vocal critics, him and Piers Morgan, to a glossy function.
  15. I think he said that they had already taken on a lot of new technology and were not against bringing in more but that had to be balanced with appropriate staffing levels. The management/Government and the Union are still a way apart from agreement. Given the way the Government operate both in public view and behind the scenes, I would be more inclined to trust Mick Lynch on matters of railway safety!
  16. OMG. What a final!!!!!!
  17. I had a long chat with a member of the RMT yesterday. He said the issue is all about health and safety now. They are happy with 5% but the Government want to see huge cuts in the engineering staff which will leave the railway system less safe. Throw in removing guards from the carriages and there are further issues over safety on the railways.
  18. Of course I am being wound up. That’s what the resident WUMs do all day long. Nothing better to do with their lives I suppose. Strange that grown men with families feel the need to stalk and wind up complete strangers on a football forum though don’t you think?
  19. Not at all. Read it again. I did not call anyone a coconut. I referred to the term that people of colour use to describe a certain type of person. Regarding the person I referred to as an immigrant, I have already pointed out that I made a mistake and should have said comes from an immigrant family. How is that in any way a racist remark? Perhaps you have a problem with immigrants but as I said, being an immigrant is not an issue for most people nor is it racist to refer to someone as an immigrant. The original point about Patel still stands, the way she treats would be immigrants is appalling given that she comes from an immigrant family herself. You seem to have the same mindset as the other far right brigade posters in here. When I said I probably can’t say this now it was due to having not seen the comment used for years so have no idea how it is viewed nowadays. I am sure that you are bright enough to understand the reference to the word was illustrative (or should I just have said there was a word for it but I can’t say it) rather than used as an accusatory word to someone in particular. For those who are determined to continue to display faux outrage of my use of the word, a quick google search found a few articles discussing this word in this context (and another, the name of a well known American biscuit which I won’t use because I don’t want upset you poor petals any more than you have been already). I suggest, if you are so upset at the use of this word, that you also complain to the writers of the articles as they use the word several times in the same context as I used it. https://www.stylist.co.uk/people/coconut-racial-slur/490585 Here is one to start you off. Be warned, you might be offended.
  20. You keep pushing this line Duckie but it doesn’t work. It is called deflection. I have never called anyone a coconut, I made reference to the term and anyone entering this country to live from abroad is called an immigrant. Unless you know otherwise it is not a racist term. But you keep on deflecting Duckie, I assume you do it because you can’t justify your support for Nigel Farage in a mostly decent society. Good afternoon Turkish. Still stalking I see.
  21. It seems to go way over the heads of those of a far right persuasion, but I am sure that most rational people would see being “woke” as a good thing given its widely accepted definition and being seen as “racist” as not a good thing. It summed up perfectly by those who boo at people taking the knee. Why boo people taking a position against something that most reasonable people find abhorrent? If you were walking down the road and saw a person from a minority group being harangued by another person because they are different in some way and another person calling the abuser out for their behaviour, would you call out the person confronting the abuser for their actions? People like Duckie and my internet stalker ought to ask themselves why they have such a problem with people who believe that we should live in a fairer and more inclusive society. They should also think about why they spend so little time attacking divisive attitudes in society (like racism). Could it be because they have more sympathy for those of the likes of Nigel Farage? We know where Duckie stands on this as he openly admits his support for Farage and UKIP. What these people seem to be trying to do is to drag down normal, non divisive people to their level so that being woke is as bad as being racist. Crazy isn’t it? As you say, if you are going to be slapped with a label, there are a lot worse labels than being called “woke.”
  22. It’s been an absolute joy watching Morocco and that was a cracking semi final. I hope they go on to beat Croatia as they fully deserve a third place in this competition.
  23. Which is exactly the point being made on the James O’Brien phone in this morning. “Woke” is only a term used by the right to denigrate those with a different opinion. Musk is saying that it will cause the end of civilisation if not dealt with. WTF? A caller later on in the programme said that he has plans to sell 2 million pick up trucks a year in the US and suggests that he is now trying to ingratiate himself to the Trump demographic.
  24. Ok, so what is it? Elon Musk is railing against this supposed condition, but what is it? There is a discussion about it on LBC this morning. When trying to get to the bottom of the meaning they have been trying to define “woke”. The best example I have heard is “not being an arsehole” but they have quoted some other examples, “wanting to make the world a better, fairer place,” “recognising systematic injustices and wanting to change them.” Not unreasonable definitions. People who rail against “wokeness” seem to have a problem with people who speak up against things like racism, homophobia etc. So the question is, if being “woke” is seeking a better, fairer world, why do people like Musk try and turn it into a pejorative term? Since when has being, or trying to be a decent human being been a bad thing? ………………………………………………………………… As an aside, since Musk has taken over Twitter my email inbox has been full messages from Twitter from well endowed young ladies displaying their wares. I don’t use Twitter although I did open an account several years ago and until recently I used to get emails advising me of Tweets from Gary Lineker and MLT (don’t know why) but now I also get floods of unsolicited messages containing soft porn. Is this Musk’s way of kicking back against “wokeness” perhaps?
  25. Semi finals, finals, quarter finals would seem to indicate a regression. We still get beaten by teams around our standing and that is something Southgate has never been able to sort. We don’t have a winning mentality and haven’t since 1966. Even then you have to wonder if we would have won it if it had not been played on home soil. Tony Adams is right. We are too nice. The French, for all of their technical ability, were quite happy to kick us throughout the match. Southgate has many qualities, but winning is not one of them and if he stays we can expect more of the same. If people are happy just to get out of the group stages and maybe a round or two more depending on a kind draw, he is your man. If you want someone to finally bring it back home, we need to find someone who can instill that winners mentality into our band of constant plucky losers. Can’t blame Harry Kane for the overall result, but that second pen sums up everything about the England football teams for the last half century. Keeping Southgate because we can’t think of someone better is hardly the answer. There are plenty of people out there who have built teams that win things. It is the FAs job to employ one of them.
