I think that you misread “are” for “have”.

There seem to be a number of reasons. Some are expressing their anger because they are envious of the other person. Sometimes it is an Alpha male thing. Some like to make themselves seem more important by belittling others. Some were bullied as kids and are getting their own back by becoming bullies (and it is the easiest thing in the world to bully on the internet as the object of your bullying can’t get their hands on you). The problem with the way that our unregulated social media works though is that it plays right into the trolls hands. As they said in the programme, in years to come people will find it hard to believe that social media launched and operated for so long without regulation.

There was an excellent documentary on BBC2 by David Baddiel about trolling on the internet last night. It looked into why there is so much anger and trolling on the net. Although he spoke to people on the receiving end, as he has been, the only downside was that he didn’t interview some trolls and ask them why they do it. There was an interesting section on how it is being used to destabilised societies though and suggested that we are in the midst of a cyber “war”. He also mention Tattle Life. For those who are not aware of it it is a social media platform mainly used by women that makes this place look like a Sunday school. They could chew up and spit out our very own WUMs and trolls without batting an eyelid. I spent some time reading it daily a few months ago and if you think all women are loving, caring, empathic human beings this will make you think again. Targets include Megan Markle (not surprising), influencers, WAGs, anyone famous plus anyone who sticks their head above the parapet. When a group of them decide they don’t like someone, it is brutal. Moving to another platform, a builder who had became famous via TikTok had his house firebombed, assumed to be by trolls, after receiving many threats and abusive posts. Brain scans showed how using social media affects our fight or flight reflexes. Baddiel came off social media for 3 weeks and his mental health improved, unsurprisingly. He did admit to being addicted to it though, as many of us clearly are. If you haven’t seen it I can thoroughly recommend it. It puts some of the posters on here into context 😉

My first two were AZ. I had a Moderna booster last Monday. Had hot sweats at night on Tuesday an Wednesday and felt a bit meh during both days but other than feeling that I had been kicked my a mule in my arm, no big deal. The worst reaction I had was with my first AZ jab when after 12 hours of the jab I was feverish and felt really crap for the next day. Spoke to a retired nurse yesterday who said that it is no bad thing to get a reaction to the vaccine as it shows the antibodies are kicking in.

I think the point is Perraud is ok but KWP is a better left back than him and although there isn’t a lot in it, you could argue that Livramento is a better right back then KWP. Ralph has said that Livramento’s style of play makes him more effective from the RB position rather than wing back. Where else do you play him as he ought to be starting every game.

I have just read a post by Turkish in your reply Badger so this is on you!! 😄 But thank you for putting his post into context. His strange obsession with whether he is being ignored or not springs from his narcissistic nature. Any attention is good attention to someone with A Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I will say it one more time as his understanding of the situation seems to be clouded by his overinflated opinion of his own self importance in a football forum. He is on my ignore list but I can still read his posts when they are quoted by others and you are able to chose to read posts if you wish by selecting the read post option. Occasionally I have read a post by him for the sake of continuity in the thread. I have always known that you can see who have posted an emoji so this supposed stunning revelation by our resident ego maniac is rubbish. I have no problem in him knowing if I have read a post by him. It doesn’t make me a liar. He is on my ignore list and has been for some time. Any mod can confirm that. At the same time I have never claimed not to read anything he has written. I am sure there are others doing the same. No big deal really, except to Turkish who desperately needs to hoover up attention. So hopefully we have cleared up this very unimportant issue and he will stop using me as an attention seeking device. Moving on…

What are you saying? That a virus that is known to mutate is mutating and that is something to be suspicious about?

That is awful news Winner. I’m so sorry to hear that. As others have said, hopefully you have plenty of support. Hang in there matey.

Ideally it should be investigated by the police, but perhaps Priti Patel has had something to do with that? Or maybe the fact that they provide the security at no 10 so are probably crapping themselves as they are complicit. What is important here is not what someone like me writes on a football forum, it is that a democratically elected government and PM take the piss out of the electorate and blatantly lie to us. Perhaps you would be better served to turn your anger on the people you voted in. -

I was referring to the situation before they announced the investigation into 3 parties by a civil servant. It would have been better to have a cross party committee do it but hey, this is the Tories under Johnson so why not use one of his buddies? I’m surprised that you have poked your head up Duckie. You and those of your ilk are responsible for this shit show. You voted the Party in and you voted Johnson in. You must be very proud of yourself. Thanks to the Duckies of this nation we are stuck with the most pony PM and cabinet ever. -

They are now being called “gatherings” instead or parties apparently. You are quite right about the police. Once allegation(s) are made it is their job to investigate and to start to gather evidence. For them not to even bother is a dereliction of duty. It is appalling that the Tory’s are investigating themselves, even though “nothing happened”. We all know how that will play out. More grief coming Johnson’s way over the flat refurb. Anybody with a shred of integrity would resign. Fortunately for most of his career path having honesty and integrity have not been an issue for him -

Partying when the rest of us were in lockdown, enjoying a nice holiday while the shit hits the fan in Afghanistan - all these stories hitting the front pages and it is only Wednesday. Still, par for the course for Johnson and the other incompetents in his cabinet. Yet still people defend for them and vote for them. Perhaps Starmer should stop attacking Johnson as the bloke is clearly made of Teflon and start on the idiots who put him there. -

Probably explains why I can’t sort out my e.d. problems. I have been taking Viera all this time 🙄

You really don’t get it do you? They are crossing because they can ONLY apply here. 🙄 -

Why would we want to ship people to foreign clearing stations if they are already here? If they are here then they apply for asylum here. It really isn’t difficult and only seems an option considered by the likes of Patel and Farage. Why would foreign countries not cooperate with moving refugees on? It is in there interest to do so. The UN is already involved in dealing with the refugee problem, so what is the issue with countries working with UN agencies to sort out asylum applications? The problem we have is that we have shut down the previous routes for asylum seekers and this government is responsible for the rise in those risking their lives crossing the channel. Read this piece from your party’s very own Brexiteer David Davis. https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Famp.theguardian.com%2Fcommentisfree%2F2021%2Fdec%2F04%2Fpriti-patel-plan-to-offshore-refugees-costly-wrong-doomed-to-fail&data=04|01||48e76adac453433fcffc08d9b7d36e2a|84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa|1|0|637742940973377721|Unknown|TWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D|3000&sdata=zJ%2B4dPfGz3QKF%2FFCMDPmck1oWmPCl9Ez2TJzX7HDfQw%3D&reserved=0 We have Embassy’s all over the world. Why can’t we allow people to apply for asylum through those? This government has made it so that the only way you can apply for asylum here is to be here. That is the issue and that needs to be dealt with. -
I read it on another forum so I guess the poster got their information wrong. Edit- having read it again he was assuming that JWP was on the line because of the injury to McCarthy. My bad. I made the assumption that it was on orders from the bench.
-
Apparently McCarthy had done his hamstring and JWP was told by the bench to get on the line to help out.
-
Tino had his worst game for us today. Very poor. Yet again we had some glorious chances to get the second but fluffed them. Ralph gets a lot of stick but when professional footballers don’t do their job what can you do?

I don’t have a plan, I simply repeated a suggestion that came from people who work with refugees. Clearly the most important thing is to find a way to stop refugees and asylum seekers crossing the channel in dinghies. You need to look at what your party is doing to make these crossings more likely. And please stop linking me to Farage. Not once have I suggested that we send people to foreign clearing stations from here. Why do you persist with this nonsense? You are the one talking”pony”. -

sadoldgit replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
The problem is in order to stop people wanting to leave where they are you need to stop wars, famine etc. We are one of the main drivers of conflicts that have seen a surge in refugees. We have also cut foreign aid which of course doesn’t help the situation one iota. The West is the cause of most of these problems. The West needs to fix it and Priti Patel’s latest bill will only make matters worse and drive more people into the hands of the people traffickers. We have done a runner from Afghanistan and have deserted the very people that were working with us to make Afghanistan a better place to live. There is currently no system in place for those people who supported us to apply to join their families (for those separated) over here. Many of those people will end up in dinghies on the Channel if something isn’t done soon.Patel’s bill is a backward step. Cutting foreign aid was a backward step. We have a government intent on making things worse rather than trying to find proper, decent, humanitarian solutions to problems often of our own making. -

So let me get this right, given a choice of risking their lives and the lives of their children in a leaky dingy crossing a freezing channel in order to apply for asylum here is preferable to staying in a safe place and doing so from abroad. Whatever it is your smoking Duckie it has clearly addled your brain. some info for you - As a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, the UK fully considers all asylum applications lodged in the UK. However, the UK’s international obligations under the Convention do not extend to the consideration of asylum applications lodged abroad and there is no provision in our Immigration Rules for someone abroad to be given permission to travel to the UK to seek asylum. The policy guidance on the discretionary referral to the UK Border Agency of applications for asylum by individuals in a third country who have not been recognised as refugees by another country or by the UNHCR under its mandate, has been withdrawn. No applications will be considered by a UK visa-issuing post or by the UK Border Agency pending a review of the policy and guidance. 20 September 2011 -

WTF are you talking about? Why would anybody send asylum seekers abroad once they have made it here and why this obsession with trying to link me and Farage? It seem that, in your haste to find something to get angry about you don’t read what has been written. I am talking about finding easier ways of allowing those who haven’t made it here for whatever reasons ( go and read what Lord Kerr has to say about it if you think there isn’t a problem - quoted in a post above) of applying - maybe through clearing stations overseas, our embassies etc. It really isn’t difficult to understand. Those already here stay here and go through the process here. Understand? As to why it will prevent people risking their lives to get here, at the moment they have to be here to apply. They cannot apply from abroad. If they could there would be no reason to get in a dingy. Understand? And as for the good old British treating them decently and with respect, read this - https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fuk-england-sussex-59468168&data=04|01||fcfe8f89c03f44cd51ff08d9b38ecb52|84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa|1|0|637738248143922599|Unknown|TWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D|3000&sdata=4LmYSfi%2FCdmT8MxsfAXlchMu4U%2FaLK%2FG78o3hO89DGU%3D&reserved=0
