It still doesn’t alter the fact that the Tories, and the people who voted for them, are 100% responsible for the state of the country. Both parties clearly have deep ideological divisions which have been exacerbated by Brexit but only one party is in power and it doesn’t really matter how weak or strong the opposition is, the Government do exactly what they want to do. Neither party is in a position of strength so long as Brexit remains unsorted. In the meantime we have a lame duck Government limping along and continuing to run the country into the ground thanks to the money they found down the back of the sofa to buy the support of the DUP. And Jeff, what are you on about? They couldn’t join forces against Johnson because one of them (or Johnson) was always going to be voted out this evening. If one of them had stood down (pointless exercise) it would not have made the slightest difference to Johnson given the support he has. It was always only about the 2 who are left standing, well, not really as Johnson seems to have had it sown up from day 1.

To blame the opposition for the state we are currently in is Trumpism at its finest. How can you blame Labour for Cameron, May and now Johnson, Gove or Hunt? The Tories have been architects of their own downfall, and fall they will.

And the Tory years of austerity have not been bitter medicine? You think that socialism is dangerous yet your beloved right wing politics have royally screwed this country. The only good thing about what is happening right now is that it might **** the Tories for years.

Indeed! It was a mess last night, but then it was always going to be. Brexit remains a minefield for whoever gets the job and it is clear that none of them has a clue how to take us forward. Stewart makes a refreshing change in that he is trying to be the kind of politician we would all like to see more of - someone who tries to answer question without resulting to b/s or lies. It was nice to see Jarvis give him a hug at the end. Two candidates who showed some humanity on the programme unlike the other three political robots. Stewart won’t win sadly as he is not an amoral ar5ehole. The Tory Party will get the leader they deserve and the rest of us will go on suffering under their discredited and anti-social policies. Boris looks home and dry, a PM that you wouldn’t buy a used car from. Two narcissistic, empty headed buffoons running two major world powers, truth can often be stranger than fiction. Even Charlie Brookner would struggle to come up with anything that the western world is having to endure at the moment. If this isn’t bad enough we have a no deal Brexit to look forward to. That’s when the fun will really start.

How would you describe a Tory party member who calls Rory Stewart a LibDem?
-
Only for those of you from the far right.
-
It is indeed, especially as that fine democracy Nigel Farage has said many times that he would have continued to fight for Brexit if they had lost by the same margin.

I’d be worried if Ralph had problems with Gao but looking at his recent article it seems as if he is perfectly happy here and with the situation. He will know better than any poster here what is going on within the club and doesn’t look like the kind of guy who would keep his mouth shut if he thought anything dodgy was going on.
-
Which given that Stewart is the least objectionable of the bunch, tells you all you need to know about the Tory party right now.

USA look miles ahead of everyone else. They haven’t been really tested yet though and it will be interesting to see what they are like defensively if a side ever gets to put them under some pressure. The Swedes should give them a tougher test.

Trust me Duckie, it is entirely possible to enjoy the works of the Bard without speaking medieval English on internet forums every day. Likewise it is possible to enjoy The Beatles without slipping into a mock Scouse accent. People stopped calling women "Birds" and "Chicks" in the last century. You are not transcending the generations, you are stuck in a time warp. She sowed the see As for Thatcher, I voted for her first time round but have not made that mistake since and that was the last time I voted Tory. She sowed the seeds of divisiveness in this country, spawning the Yuppie ("Me") generation. She royally f**ked industry here, something that we will never get back again. Thanks to her we have moved on from being a nation of shopkeepers to being a nation of baristas. And now The Blue Rinse Brigade is going to land us with Boris effin Johnson!

I know, but when you listen to people talk about who they voted for it is usually the leader they mention as in Thatcher, Blair etc. I can’t recall the last time anyone said they voted for their actual MP in a conversation about elections. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if many people had no idea who their MP is. There are people who say they always vote Labour but don’t do so as long as Cronyn is the Party leader. Unless he is their standing MP, why does it make a difference? Because we vote, or don’t vote, for personalities. Many Tories want Johnson to win because they believe he can win the next election. If it was just a question of a party vote, why is it so important who the leader is? If Farage was a Tory, can you imagine the fallout if he became their next leader and our Prime Minister? I have voted for all three main parties in various elections over the years, but mostly for the LibDems. Despite still believing in their policies I have voted tactically recently because of Clegg and the coalition. I don’t have a problem with my local LD candidate.

I wish you were joking Duckie, but sadly you confirm everyday on here that you are stuck in the parody of a bigoted 70’s British male. What I find more surprising is that you are actually younger than me. You come across in your language and beliefs as someone born in the 40’s. I have to tell you that the world of Sweaties, Birds, Chicks, Lefties, Pinkos etc ended a long time ago. Sadly you and many of your ilk will get to chose the next Prime Minister. Quite ironic given how you lot bleat about Remainers being undemocratic. I can’t think of a less democratic way of choosing our PM.

Thanks John. The picture of the Albany rings a bell. I also remember being very impressed as a young lad that Follands were responsible for the Red Arrows in those days. During one visit I remember a fair in the park close to the Albany. I may well have been an annual thing as it was a Bank Holiday. In later years when I used to drive down to see Saints games at The Dell from the Bromley area I used the Albany as a land mark as to where to park my car (a red and white Triumph Herald no less!). Happy days!

I mention foreign because a particular poster usually throws that in when talking about Gao. There is a huge difference in having concerns and making assumptions that someone is “dodgy.” How many owners talk to their fans? Krueger made the point that Gao preferred for comms to come from the Board. What is the problem with that? People borrow money to buy businesses. What is the problem with that? We have a new sponsor who are going to give SFC more money than our previous sponsor. What is the problem with that? Up to this point I can’t really see what he has done as owner of SFC as being dodgy so I can’t start making assumptions based on what may or may not happen in the future. If you want to assume the worst, that is your right.
-
The article in the Echo says that there are whispers behind the scenes that there is interest in him rather than we are actively trying to sell.
-
No. Just pointing out that no matter what you think of Gao and no matter what you think of the vetting process, he got through it. It seems to me that we don’t like him, according to conjecture, because he is foreign, he is not super rich, he doesn’t talk to the fans, he might be a bit dodgy and he intends to carry on running the club the same way it has been run.
-
Perhaps you need to ask the “dimwits” at the FA why they found him to be a fit and proper person to own a football club?
-
Yep, why have reasonable when you can have a conspiracy theory instead?
-
Whilst you just look like an ignorant person with an agenda. “Useless and indebted owner?” How much are ManU in debt? As for useless, how can you judge after such a short time in charge? It seems to me that he has spent some time checking things out and is now beginning to make his mark. There is more to running a football club than throwing money at it. Let’s see how things shape up. You seem to have a problem with people who try to be reasonable. Perhaps you should give it a try rather than to look for negatives all the time? If Gao wasn’t bothered about the club why replace Hughes with a quality manager?
-
They should have got rid of her ages ago, the trouble is there is no decent candidate to replace her. The only one with an ounce of charisma is a complete buffoon. We are going to end up with an incompetent leader on either side of the Atlantic. Putin must think that all of his birthdays have come at once.
-
So replace one uninspiring leader with another? How depressing. Hopefully the Tories have had it now, undone by Farage. What a way to go!
-
Whether Gao takes us forward or not remains to be seen. We also have absolutely no idea where we would be right now if Marcus hadn’t passed away when he did. It is entirely possible that we would be in a similar position with him now getting the same flak that his daughter and Gao are getting. From what I can see very little has changed since he bought the club in terms of expenditure on the team. We were a self sustaining club under Marcus, under his daughter and now under Gao. As many have pointed out repeatedly, that has not been our problem. The problem has been recruitment. It looks like Gao is addressing the issues and if he is successful and we have a better season in 19/20, then perhaps he should get some credit?
-
Really? They seem to be queuing up to make their confessions and some to be looking to be wearing it as a badge of honour. No surprise to see you supporting this dreadful rabble though. You are so stuck in the 70s that you think the country is in a mess because of liberal policies. The country is where it is because of the likes of Cameron and May, two of the most inept PMs in my lifetime. Both Tories Duckie. The dreadful bunch looking to replace May will only make things worse. Still, if Mcvey gets in you can say least forget the dreadful policies whist fulfilling your sexual fantasies eh Duckie? Your party is a mess and with any luck will be destroyed in the next election.

Gao said that this club is his child. You don’t sell your child. Don’t expect him to sell any time soon. Owning a Premiership club gives him kudos back home. He ain’t going anywhere unless something drastic happens.
