How would you describe a Tory party member who calls Rory Stewart a LibDem?

It is indeed, especially as that fine democracy Nigel Farage has said many times that he would have continued to fight for Brexit if they had lost by the same margin.

I’d be worried if Ralph had problems with Gao but looking at his recent article it seems as if he is perfectly happy here and with the situation. I know, but when you listen to people talk about who they voted for it is usually the leader they mention as in Thatcher, Blair etc. I can’t recall the last time anyone said they voted for their actual MP in a conversation about elections. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if many people had no idea who their MP is. There are people who say they always vote Labour but don’t do so as long as Cronyn is the Party leader. Unless he is their standing MP, why does it make a difference? Because we vote, or don’t vote, for personalities. Many Tories want Johnson to win because they believe he can win the next election. If it was just a question of a party vote, why is it so important who the leader is? If Farage was a Tory, can you imagine the fallout if he became their next leader and our Prime Minister? I have voted for all three main parties in various elections over the years, but mostly for the LibDems. Despite still believing in their policies I have voted tactically recently because of Clegg and the coalition. I don’t have a problem with my local LD candidate.

I wish you were joking Duckie, but sadly you confirm everyday on here that you are stuck in the parody of a bigoted 70’s British male. What I find more surprising is that you are actually younger than me. You come across in your language and beliefs as someone born in the 40’s. Thanks John. The picture of the Albany rings a bell. I also remember being very impressed as a young lad that Follands were responsible for the Red Arrows in those days. During one visit I remember a fair in the park close to the Albany. I may well have been an annual thing as it was a Bank Holiday. In later years when I used to drive down to see Saints games at The Dell from the Bromley area I used the Albany as a land mark as to where to park my car (a red and white Triumph Herald no less!). Happy days!

I mention foreign because a particular poster usually throws that in when talking about Gao. There is a huge difference in having concerns and making assumptions that someone is “dodgy.” How many owners talk to their fans? No. Just pointing out that no matter what you think of Gao and no matter what you think of the vetting process, he got through it. It seems to me that we don’t like him, according to conjecture, because he is foreign, he is not super rich, he doesn’t talk to the fans, he might be a bit dodgy and he intends to carry on running the club the same way it has been run.

Perhaps you need to ask the “dimwits” at the FA why they found him to be a fit and proper person to own a football club?

They should have got rid of her ages ago, the trouble is there is no decent candidate to replace her. The only one with an ounce of charisma is a complete buffoon. We are going to end up with an incompetent leader on either side of the Atlantic. Putin must think that all of his birthdays have come at once.

Whether Gao takes us forward or not remains to be seen. We also have absolutely no idea where we would be right now if Marcus hadn’t passed away when he did. It is entirely possible that we would be in a similar position with him now getting the same flak that his daughter and Gao are getting. From what I can see very little has changed since he bought the club in terms of expenditure on the team. We were a self sustaining club under Marcus, under his daughter and now under Gao. As many have pointed out repeatedly, that has not been our problem. The problem has been recruitment. It looks like Gao is addressing the issues and if he is successful and we have a better season in 19/20, then perhaps he should get some credit?

Gao said that this club is his child. You don’t sell your child. Don’t expect him to sell any time soon. Owning a Premiership club gives him kudos back home. He ain’t going anywhere unless something drastic happens.

I am taking a punt here so bear with me. Back in the 60’s my dad worked and played cricket for The Times. Every year at Whitsun (late May bank holiday) they would do a small cricket tour taking in Tichborne CC and Follands CC. I think they used to stay at the Albany Hotel which may well have closed in the 80s? The Times had a lovely sports ground at Ravensbourne near Bromley in Kent and I think Tichborne may have played some return games there too. I have a vague recollection of Follands being the manufacturers of the Gnat jet? I think there was one at their sports ground? Just wondering if any one here knows anything about those old cricket matches? I still have a picture of my dad being applauded off the field after getting 98 not out. That would have been mid 60s.
