  1. If he brought MP in to keep us up and we go down it most certainly does mean he made the wrong decision.
  2. MLT has clearly got some issues with Cortese and could certainly have handled things better. HOwever, none of us (well most of us) dont know what his issues are and perhaps if we did we would have a different view. Cortese does not handle things particularly well. Will we ever really know why he sacked Pardew? Probably not from his lips. His treatment of Adkins was appalling. He is now acting like a child in his handling of the MLT business. Giving him a meeting in a months time (is he really THAT busy?) and in London at that was clearly designed to put Matt in his place and show that NC is the Alpha male. Now by pulling the plug on the meeting he is just making things even worse. He could have come out and said that he wasn't happy about Matt's utterings but was still happy to meet him and try and resolve their differences. To suggest that Frannie B does not have the club to heart is ridiculous. Is Frannie sueing SFC or Cortese? My understanding is that his issue is with Cortese not the club. This episode has just taken a huge lurch backwards and it is sad to see so many people having a pop at Matt when he clearly feels that he has issues that Cortese should answer. There have been many downs in our history - one of the biggest was when Markus passed away and left this unpleasant character loose on our beloved club.
  3. I am more worried about not being able to play consistently over 90 mins. We seem to put in a decent shift for 45 mins but can't keep it up for the whole game.
  4. Not everytime actually DD but it does amaze me that things that Lowe did got ripped to shreds every day on here yet Coreste does similar, if not worse things and lots of people queue up to defend him??? Its a bit like Chelsea fans. They boo Rafa but are afraid to take their anger out on Abramovich - probably because they are afraid that he will walk and take his money with him. RB was employed by Abramovitch, he did force his way into the club. I think some people here are scared of Cortese and what would happen if he left the club. By the way, only 6 games to go before we can start to criticise our new manager (according to your 9 game rule) so it will be interesting to see what you post if things do not improve
  5. You are confusing the ABC (sales) figures with the National Readership figures FC. The Sun's ABC (sales ) are around 2.5 million. The readership figures (NRS) are published at around 7m. 2.560,000 of those are ABC1 and 4,524,000 are C2DE. To put that into context The Guardain has something like 1,062,000 readers of which 950,000 are ABC1 and only 112,000 are C2DE. I go back to my original point - you are deemed to have "read" a paper even if you have only looked at Page 3 or looked at the front page on a newstand so any readership figure, especially for a redtop, is not going to be accurate. The Sun's sales have dropped by over 1m copies a day in the last few years. Its "power" is waning as more and more people see it, and Murdoch, for what they are.
  6. 4 weeks? It is all about who has the power and NC is putting MLT in his place. If Lowe had done this there would have been an uproar about how disrespectful it is.
  7. I worked in newspaper Circualtion Departments for 30 years an for 6 of those years I was National Sales Manager at one of the broadsheets. The readerships figures mean nothing and are there to attract advertsing. If you have seen a newspaper front page (which many ofus do in newsagents, cafes etc) you are classed as having "read" the paper. Newspaper cicualtion and readership is dying rapidly as more and more people get their news through the internet. Newspapers see this as their way forward rather than through newspapers and the broadsheet I used to work for has been laying off people from its Circulation Dept for the last few years. You can take that 7 million with a pinch of salt along with the so called "power" that certain newspapers like to think they still have.
  8. Davenport was the worst of the lot. One of the poorest players I have ever seen play for us. LOwe was geting lots of flak for interfering with transfers and probably bought into Arrys myth that he is the best wheeler and dealer there is. Well he dealt us into relegation.
  9. Someone is demed to have "read" the paper even if they just look at part of it and I am sure many people look at Page 3 and ignore the rest. There is a huge difference between ABC figures and readership figures. ABC figures are sales figures. As for Corteses "grovelling" to your Mike. Really? Do you really think that someone like Cortese would grovel? Or eat humble pie? The reason why most enlightened people think The Sun is rubbish is precisely because of things like this. Why print the truth when you can make it up. I know The Sun makes things up through personal experience. The phone hacking debacle tells you all you need to know about that paper and the people who work for it. If thats me being a snob so be it. Oh and it is ate big humble pie by the way.
  10. Clearly there are no deserving causes in this country that would benefit then? What a crock... Just more self publicity by one of the most overated players in the modern game.
  11. I dont buy this we have a good enough squad to stay up theory. All bar one of these players have barely kept us out of the relegation zone so far.
  12. When we could be in the Championship
  13. You could argue that because of his alleged "big ego" he belives he is too important to have to explain his decisions to the plebs and is way above dealing with the local paper (who afterall have a duty to report on their local clubs).
  14. Lowe was not on TV everyday. He had a higher profile but that was because,as bad as he was at PR, at least he fronted up his decisions and dealt with issues (how many times has The Dom met with the supporters?). Lowe was pilloried for not being a football man but getting involved in footballing decisions. Cortese also has a financial background but apparently it is perfectly ok for him to do so? We had the smokescreen of Pardew's alleged hank panky when he was sacked. Now we are being linked to loads of foreign players ending with "o" to keep the masses happy and their mid off of what happened the other week. Easy to be linked to players - not easy to sign though. One in so far with time running out. I love it when someone says he cant see Adkins being top 4 manager when, so far, at least he has a proven track record with us - whereas MP has failed in Spain yet he can been seen as a top 4 manager LOL. The board in Lowe's day were quite clearly trying to survive on home grown talent but with no major money behind them they couldn't keep the likes of Walcot and Bale who wanted out. Cortese doesn't have that problem and finds it easier not to sell because of the money at his disposal. If Lowe had behaved in the way that Cortese does the pitchforks would be out but for some reason Cortese escapes comparisions and is fireproof. If MLT badmouthed Lowe everone said good on you Matt. When MLT badmouths Cortese he gets told to shut up. Lowe was bad at PR but Cortese is worse. I suspect we have just heard from him because his advisers begged him to make a statement, not because he felt he should. Whether he was right about sacking Adkins at this time only time will tell. Adkins had already come out and said after the Coventy game when it happens I hope it is done in the right way. Cortese could not have found a worse way to do it and his vision for the club does not excuse his appalling actions to someone who gave his all for the club.
  15. You have wanted Adkins out for some time now and you have your wish. I wonder how long it will be before you go after MP or whether the players mistakes will be down to them rather than the manager because this manager has a more exotic name than Pardew or Adkins?
  16. No, you can't see my project.
  17. Briiliant bit of PR work by the club to move the attention of Adkins sacking perhaps?
  18. MOst of us have never met the guy so can only form an opinion by heresay. As with Lowe the debate should be about his actions and decisions. Clearly he has made many good decisions and sacking Adkins may turn out to be one of them. What still leaves a bitter taste is the way he went about it. He should have had the good grace to front up the media and explain his decision and whilst he was at it he could have given credit to Adkins for his excellent work for the club. Lowe was arrogant but at least he faced the music (and the fans). It takes a certain kind of arrogance to completely ignore everyone whilst making massive decisions about the club they love. Pardew was shoved out of the door with rumours of hanky panky with a players wife (where did that come from I wonder?). Adkins goes as if he was the bloke who fixes the plumbing. The local paper is ignored. Programme sellers are dumped. Our red and white stripes have been dumped. It looks like he is trying to turn us into a brand. If I wanted to support a brand I would follow ManU or Chelski. We may well get into Europe and become a "big" club, but at what price I wonder?
  19. Given the timing and enormity of the decision (that has seen football people stunned) do you realy think it was too much to expect the man who made the decision to front up the media and expain why and why his new choice is the right choice?
  20. There is a condition called Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Look it up. Compare and contrast.
  21. What I find sad is that if Lowe had done these things there would be a meltdown but for some reason Cortese is given licence to act in an even worse fashion (in my book). Making us look like Liverpool in our first season back in the Prem was a pretty poor shown and if it is true that Adkins found out that he lost his job via the media that is appalling. Protest or not it doesn't make any difference, the guy running the show is worse than Lowe as far as I can see. I would rather still be in the Championship and be a family club than sign up for Cortese's vision of te future thanks.
  22. Never been a great fan of Cortese but his stock raised in my eyes when he stood by Adkins when things weren't going well. Clearly he wasn't standing by him at all and just biding his time to bring this new guy in. I feel sick and tird of the way clubs become playthings for egomaniacs. I bet Pardew and Adkins have interesting tales to tell each other.
  23. It is not Cortese's money and Lowe had to survive in the Premiership on 15k gates at the Dell. The board did what they could with what they had which is far less money than Cortese can play with.
  24. Gutted. I couldn't believe it when he sacked Pardew, but now this is beyond ridiculous. I am sure Adkins will not be out of work for long and hope he ends up working for someone decent. People hated Lowe, Cortese today has proved himself to be much worse.
  25. Oh do grow up mate. The only people who know the reason do not spend time on here but they clearly didn't want him so why bother speculating about why when there are offers being made on other players who we clearly do want?
