I’m not so sure about Farage. He is not remotely concerned about running his constituency and will employ some minions to do it for him. He is already heading off to the USA this week in support of Trump. He may be just an MP but he sees himself as a major player on the world stage. He will use this position as a stage just as he did when he was an MEP. The media love him because he fills airtime and news columns. I’m willing to bet that he will get as much attention as the next Tory leader, if not more.

Which is a major issue. If Parliament holds all of the power over itself how do we ever get reform if it can vote to protect the interest of the ruling party all of the time. This is where pressure groups and public opinion play their part. As I said before, it worked for Brexit. There are already organisations working to bring electoral reform to the fore. There are many MPs who believe that the system needs to be reformed. The LibDems want reform. Farage will be loudly beating that drum. Parliament may well find it has to agree to a review of the electoral system if there is enough pressure from outside. This thread is supposed to be about the pros and cons of our electoral system and whether it should be changed, not whether the government will or won’t support it. If no one is interested in electoral reform, let’s just forget it and move on, eh?

I don’t think that they go out clubbing together every Friday night, but they never post against each other - Nic was a poor example. Of course people have different views, that is why we come on here to express them, but there is a big difference between discussing topics and targeting someone specifically. You mentioned hypo. He himself made a point of attacking my posts about a couple of right wing bigots and then admitted that he didn’t even know who they were! He used to respond to my posts within seconds, day after day. Fortunately he seems to have dropped the worst of his Baby Reindeer behaviour now but you get my point? There is a big difference between disagreements and obsessive behaviour. There are several people on here who are obsessed. Anyway, I agree with Rallyboy that it is tiresome and will do my best not to rise to the bait in future. 😉

If you think that it is sanctimonious to call out racists, xenophobes, homophobes etc then that is your right. Personally I think that anyone who thinks that they are superior to others just because they are different in some way or were not fortunate enough to be born with white skin on a rock in the North Sea should be called out for what they are. I insult these people because they have done the same to me for years on here. It is the only thing they understand. They claim to have no affiliation with far/hard right wing politics and it’s mouthpieces yet they jump in to support them at every opportunity. People with that mindset need to be called out wherever they are, even on an insignificant internet football forum. A few years ago it felt like it was only me. Now I am pleased to say that more posters are calling them out on a regular basis. Have you noticed how not one of them ever posts against East Stand Nic? If ever there was a target for an internet pile on it is him, yet they don’t touch his posts at all. Perhaps ask yourself why that is?

Battle box? Is that why Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill and to this day still insist that the vote (at the ballot box) was fixed? I don’t think that anyone disagrees that the issues should be decided by the ballot box. It’s just a shame that Trump and his MAGA crowd don’t agree.

Which is exactly why it should be taken out of parliamentary hands and decided by the people. If there is enough support in the country for a proper referendum on electoral reform/PR, any sitting government can’t ignore it forever.

Surely we should play to the strengths of our players as witnessed by their performances in domestic football. Asking players to do something different to what they do week in week out and shoehorn them into some different national framework doesn’t seem to make much sense. Players like Kane and Foden have been criticised for their performances but have not been used in the same way as by their respected clubs. You can argue that top quality players should be able to adapt to other systems, but you could also argue that, if you have quality players you should look to build your system around getting the best out of them.

A miss is as good as a mile. He is not a winner. His nature is to play it safe until he doesn’t have a choice and then it is down to luck. Spain were the best team in the competition and worthy winners. Although we had one of the strongest squads, we were one of the poorest teams. We relied on what the pundits call ‘moments.’ That is what teams from the lower divisions do when they play prem teams. Moments of quality and/or moments of luck. Quality teams like Spain don’t play safe and hope for the best. There was one team looking to win the game in normal time and it wasn’t us.

Someone who plays on the front foot and isn’t risk averse. Spain looked wobbly when we put them under pressure. How often did we do that? That is down to his tactics.

I’m sure the world doesn’t hang on my every word. Plenty of people came out here and condemned the act. I don’t see the fact that I didn’t say anything for a while to be significant in the slightest. I still haven’t seen a full news report on it so don’t really know the full story. Irrespective of that, I am flattered that some WUMs on a football internet think my opinion, or lack of opinion, worthy of comment. Be honest, when you woke up this morning I doubt very much whether your first thought was to log on here to see what SOG had to say about the attempted assassination 😉 One minute I am told that I post boring drivel, the next I am being criticised for not posting boring drivel.

Not smiling but laughing. It seems it’s ok to laugh at the death and destruction in Gaza but if you don’t immediately come out and speak up for the vile Donald Trump after an assassination attempt, that is somehow worse. 🤔

In an ideal world people wouldn’t go around shooting other people, especially political targets, but that doesn’t make him any less unpleasant or some kind of saint. No, it should not have happened, but why should people who have been slagging him off for years suddenly pretend they are concerned about his welfare. Did he care about Mike Pence when there were threats to hang him from the Trump supporting crowd? He knows what the situation is and that he is a target for nutters, unlike the poor people in the crowd caught up in the crossfire.
