Surely we should play to the strengths of our players as witnessed by their performances in domestic football. Asking players to do something different to what they do week in week out and shoehorn them into some different national framework doesn’t seem to make much sense. Players like Kane and Foden have been criticised for their performances but have not been used in the same way as by their respected clubs. You can argue that top quality players should be able to adapt to other systems, but you could also argue that, if you have quality players you should look to build your system around getting the best out of them.

A miss is as good as a mile. He is not a winner. His nature is to play it safe until he doesn’t have a choice and then it is down to luck. Spain were the best team in the competition and worthy winners. Although we had one of the strongest squads, we were one of the poorest teams. We relied on what the pundits call ‘moments.’ That is what teams from the lower divisions do when they play prem teams. Moments of quality and/or moments of luck. Quality teams like Spain don’t play safe and hope for the best. There was one team looking to win the game in normal time and it wasn’t us.

Someone who plays on the front foot and isn’t risk averse. Spain looked wobbly when we put them under pressure. How often did we do that? That is down to his tactics.

Yes. That is exactly what I am saying. Do you honestly believe that Joe Biden would have his supporters storm Capitol Hill if he lost? Do you honestly think that America will be a more stable country if Trump wins? Do you think that NATO will be better or worse under Trump? Do you think that Trump will stand up to Putin or let him get away with what he likes? Do you think that the Ukrainians are hopeful that Trump wins? Do you think that Trump will use his power of the legal system for the good of the country if for his own ends?

Where shall we start? Ukraine? NATO? Gaza? Democracy in the US? Sucking up to Putin? You don’t think it is grim having a narcissistic, self serving fruitloop sex offender as leader of the Western world? Ok. That explains a lot.

It’s pretty grim for the whole of the western world. Not too grim for Putin though so I suppose that will make you happy.

Another Trump term in office is a very grim prospect. We have finally got some normality back in our political sphere here, we can only hope that common sense prevails and the Democrats find someone more able to run against Trump. An unstable US is the last thing the world needs right now.
