As dear old Um Pahars used to say, you couldn't make it up. If Lowe had had that spat with the Echo and had done this to Benali the usual suspects would have been after him like a shot. Now NC gets a pat on the back and a huge well done. These sort of people are usually cut fronm the same cloth, that is how they get to where they are. Be ready for more stories like this about NC and more Lowelike behaviour, with the same hypocracy about what a wonderful bloke he is...unless we don't get promoted of course

You are missing the point DD. So you don't want to eat dolphin, so what? This is about the fact that a creature of its stature is being butchered. The Japanese are not going to suddenly start dying out as a race if dolphin is no longer on the menu it is? As someone who spends so much time underwater I would have expected you to have a little more empathy for your submariner buddies

Are reindeer and moose hunted to near extinction? Tell me, what happended to the buffalo when the white man moved to America? The Native American's used what they needed and no more. Now we have factory ship that hoover up the seas resources at a rate that is no longer sustanable. Cod used to be a very cheap food source. It is much more expensive now because of over fishing. But the point remains, there is no need to kill these animals as a food source, so why do it. Even worse if dolphins are being butchered to protect tuna stocks.

So you are cool with people eating dog then? The reason we talk about staple diet is that the peope who eat dolphin and whalemeat could just as easily not eat it and survive.
-
Not quite everything! Beef has been a staple diet of western civilsations for a very long time. I am sure than people in India, while not eating them themselves can see the population need feeding, and they ren't too fussed about killing and eating sheep are they? We are talking numbers though and staple diets. How many Japanese depend on a diet of dolphin and whalemeat?
-
Perhaps Benjii said it then, but I didn't make it up. Yes Benjii, dolphins are nice. So are lambs and piggies.
-
I am intelligent enough to realise that the Japanses staple diet is not whale and dolphin! What animal do we need to eat? The same animals that we have been breeding for eating for hundreds of years I guess. I guess that you a relatively intelligent person and can figure out that certain animals are breed/cultivated for food and others are not. In the later category I would place whales and dolphins. With it yet? If the whales and dolphins became extinct what would the Japanese do then? Erm, carry on eating what most of them currently eat at the moment I guess.

Even better to actually have money to spend! Thanks for the updates everyone, even at one point if it did seem like there was an echo on here!

Frannie should have been banned years ago....but for his defending!!!

Please don't liken us to Man City. I would like to think we were the Southampton of Div 1 and have a bit more integrity.
-
You could try by saying that you think that creatures like dolphins and whales should not be butchered without trying to drag in arguements about veal or xeonophobia perhaps? I think you would proabably find that the same people who disagree with the butcher of these animals are also not happy about the veal practices and probably don't have a problem with the Japanses per se.
-
Would you agree that we are all a part of the "animal kingdom." I don't think it unreasonable to say that most other species live their lives in a far more "intelligent" way than ours does. Afterall, it was only a relatively short time ago that most of our forefathers belived the world to be flat...and nowdays people like Peter Andre and Jordan are celebrities! I rest my case
-
No that is not the point at all. And what does this have to do with xenophobia/racism? It would be just as wrong if we or the Americans were doing it.
-
We are just as bad? I am not supporting the use of veal but that does come from our historical food line. There are plenty of other things in the sea that that culture could and does live on. The arguement is about killing whales and dolphins, if you want to widen it why not bring up the fact that we actually kill each other?
-
Social convention is developed over long period of time and for a reason. As primitives we have evolved over a period of time to the belief systems we have now. I would like to believe that most people with any sense of decency nowdays would see that butchering creatures like whales and dolphins is not just unnecessary, but is very wrong.
-
I suppose it all depends on the size of your blinkers and prejudices Ponty Still if you think it is okay to butcher highly intelligent and evolved creatures that is your right. Perhaps you would like to define "intelligent"?
-
How do you know they are not studying us? Just because they don't wear white lab coats? I would imagine that any other life form that interacts with us makes judgements about us and therefore studies us. I think it is vain in the extreme to think that we are the only life form on this planet capable of intelligence. You only have to watch David Attenborough's programmes to see how the animal life on this planet organises itself far more intelligently than we ever do. They would laugh at us typing away on keyboards, so much easier to use telepathy eh?
-
Really? Do they behave as badly as we do? It all depends how you define "intelligent." I think we also need to consider the affect that dolphins have on people with depression and other menatl health issues. There is a marked improvement for many when they swim with dolphins. THis will probably raise a chuckle, but those into Spriritual matters hold the dolphins in very high regard as they are considered to be far more spiritually enlightened than us. There is a belief that they have the spirit of the Atlantans who, if they did exists, we far more advance than we like to think we are. Mankind have obviosuly evolved faster than many if not all life forms on thisplanet. I would argue that there are morer "intelligent" life forms than man though. Few others for example spend so much time butchering there own kind. They also work within the eco system rather than abuse it to exist as we do. Mankind is actually working hard each day to hasten the end of our species by overuse of the planets resouces. What other species do that? I would say taht amkes us far less "intelligent."

Palace are my Portsmouth as I grew up in S London and most of my school mates gave me grief whenever they beat us. After the stick that Jordan gave Lowe I am enjoying a quiet chuckle at the state of Palace right now!
-
When I grew up in South London "mush" was another word for face, as in have you washed your mush today. Later it was used as another word for mate.

Veggies would argue about this, but we have been breading livestock for a food source for a very very long time. We are are a mixture of carnivors and herbivors and we live on meat. You could argue that a cow deserve the right to live as much as a dolphin. However there are huge differences between animals breed for consumption and other animals that are wild. I don't particlualy like the thought of killing any animal but I do eat meat as do many life forms and that is what the food chain is all about. There are certain things I will not eat though. There are certain animals that should be left alone by man, dolphins and whales are very high on that list for me. Dolphins are a very advanced life form and I would agree that they are probably more "intelligent" than mankind. We should cherish and study them, not butcher them.
-
I agree, and many are much more intelligent than some of the posters here
-
It is quite simple. The national quota for killing whales and dolphins should be 0. They don't need to kill them to eat, so why do it?
-
Big fish eat little fish and bigger clubs will also look to snaffle up decent players from smaller clubs. The good news is that we do not have to sell and he is very unlikely to go.

A bigger issue is the use of CCTV cameras. WE are caught on camera hundreds of times a day but not a peep about that? The chances of being "fingered" incorrectly are very small indeed. Can anyone here recall a case where someone has been convicted on incorrect DNA sampling? There are pelnty of cases where people have been wrongly identified though. As I said, DNA can be helped to prove innocence as well as guilt. As for liberty, yep, we all have the liberty to get murdered, beaten up, raped, mugged, burgled and we all want to see those people caught and convicted. No easy job, the use of DNA makes it a little easier.
