  1. I don’t recall it being an issue before, so why now? Just a panic knee jerk response by the Tory election machine now picked up by the political commentators?
  2. Nick Ferrari made a big deal about it in his interview with Wes Streeting this morning. I wonder if he just forgot that “Dave” Cameron said that he would make time for a date night with his wife every week when he was PM. Jumped on by the Tory press too. Pathetic.
  3. This is for you Batman. One of the very many media articles about the effect that Reform is having on the Tory vote. It would be strange not to comment on it on a thread about the election would it not? https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/02/sunak-most-tory-seat-reform-canvey-island-essex
  4. Impartial, when Trump chose several of the judges? As to how many layers, that is the argument for/against something like the ECHR. One of the arguments in favour of the ECHR is that it provides checks and balances to state legislature and provides protection against government interference into state legislation. Many Americans themselves accept that this is an abuse of power and that the decision is biased and wrong. The problem they have is that they have no where else to go. There are no checks and balances and it opens the door to future Presidents having the absolute power of a dictator. In answer to your question, one, an independent international court of appeal where the best legal minds on the planet sit in judgement and as a final arbiter of justice.
  5. I used to play in a kids team where one particular player had to be the no 9, had to take all of the penalties and free kicks, had to score all of the goals, gave you a mouthful of abuse if you didn’t give him the ball. It didn’t help that his Dad ran the team. Whenever I see Ronaldo play I think of him.
  6. Because costs have risen substantially over the last few years so spending needs to increase exponentially, but Labour have also said that they will spend money more judiciously.
  7. It’s a shame the main parties don’t have the guts to trust what the public want. Labour are terrified of mentioning tax rises and the Tories are selling more tax cuts, yet most sensible people understand that we have to pay for better services and that money has to come from somewhere. Economic growth is fine if and when it happens, but it will take an age before it kicks in enough to raise the funds needed. https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jul/01/twice-as-many-britons-want-tax-rises-as-want-cuts-survey-finds
  8. Interesting feedback from whogetsmyvote.org Mostly Green with LibDem and Labour 2nd and 3rd place. Tories and Reform both in the red zone.
  9. There will be many people today thinking that the Supreme Court have made a political decision not a lawful decision. If only there was a higher, totally impartial court of appeal.
  10. His save in extra time and then three pens on the trot. Wow.
  11. The French played some nice football but their shooting was woeful. Even the goal was a deflection. From that performance they don’t look likely winners.
  12. Glastonbury doesn’t have walls and doors? I didn’t realise you could just wander in like a park or I would gone more often.
  13. Did Sunak ever say it was country first? It has been party first (in more ways than one) with the Tories for years.
  14. The world has moved on since the 70’s Duckie. Time to catch up. No one laughs at Bernard Manning jokes anymore.
  15. Have you ever been to an outdoor concert? I have been to concerts at Charlton, QPR, Wembley and Glastonbury where “tens of thousands” of people have been “packed in.” Did you see the size of the crowd for Coldplay on Saturday night? Perhaps you need to get out more instead of sitting in a darkened room trolling on the internet?
  16. The future of the Tory party? https://amp.theguardian.com/education/article/2024/jun/30/tory-student-group-condemned-over-video-shows-them-singing-to-nazi-song
  17. The words “try something different” do not exist in Southgate’s vocabulary. The fact that he left the Toney substitution so late shows how he agonises against changing anything. He has always been risk averse, but I actually think he is getting worse.
  18. To be fair hypo, it wouldn’t be the first time you have given a bellend your support.
  19. Part of Turkey is in Europe. Using your massive knowledge of geography would you say that Turkey was a more natural fit for the NATO organisation than an island off the coast of China?
  20. Batman’s point was that there were thousands in the Pyramid audience because it is a captive audience. He seemed oblivious to the point that people can and do watch other acts playing elsewhere at the same time. The space for the audience capacity at the Pyramid stage had been increased this year.
  21. They seemed to be “packed” on Friday and Saturday night.
  22. “Something?” Wow!
  23. They make us look like a Sunday pub side. You just know that he will start with the same team against Switzerland, baring injuries.
  24. I had already posted that earlier.
  25. Only European countries can be invited to join. Let me know when Australia joins. I am sure the Aussies will all be busting a gut to send troops to Eastern Europe.
