In my day the Govt set the mortgage lending rate . It was 12% at the time we were buying our first house and Building Societies would not lend you money unless you had been a regular saver with them . We had to get a low cost endowment policy flogged by the Estate Agent. Fortunately in a time of high inflation we had a Ed Heath conservative govt who introduced threshold payments to compensate for inflation to my salary .So we had 36% pay rises for a while 😄 Our monthly mortgage payments after a year or so of this became affordable! Then Heath got the boot . We had available such benefits such as earning related unemployment benefit, tax relief on mortgage payments (yes really) Proper company pensions where you got 50% of your final salary and your widow got 50% of that (66% now) Then we got Thatcher who reduced income tax to great fanfare but massively increased indirect taxes such as VAT which benefited the rich and meant the poor paid a higher percentage of tax ! Then the dreaded poll tax aimed at at poor people where labour voters stayed off the register to vote to avoid it and rich people had different members of the family as residents in their various houses so only paid one poll tax per house rather than four for 2 parents and 2 over 18 children living in a council house. You can easily trace all of our financial woes to the loss of empire and massive debt after WW2 which allowed the USA to boot us out of the middle east oil bonanza etc. Lately you can add brexit for trading and inflation woes plus immigration to the holy grail of UK which can no.longer send them back to the first safe European country etc

I think it's a good thing they play at St Mary's , they could probably go back to the old days and let supporters just come in and sit where they want .

At the point the ship goes over the edge of the flat earth , I swear I heard a Reform candidate say this .

I think the players were conned into these very risky tax dodging investments by a firm that used football people to persuade these players into their schemes . The football people were paid to do this . The 2 men that ran the firm still claim they did nothing wrong and it was up to the players wether they took the risk ! The HMRC could see that is was a tax dodge and eventually won their case which went badly for the players not the investment firm which is annoying .

As usual the tabloid headlines said he was a total failure at holding back the tide which as usual was the opposite to the point he was making. No doubt they pointed out he was the son of a Danish king who invaded Britain so an illegal imigrant who should be sent back even though he was an Anglo Saxon 😄

Having watched Motd I wonder what's happened to the game that I enjoyed over the years ! Inexplicable VAR decisions taking so long we end up with over 10 mins of added time , this despite the Ref's being told last week to up their game this season . Teams made up of mainly imports plus wholesale changing of players and 3 new sets of kit each season meaning I can't recognize which team is which or who the players are . Managers who can't even bear to watch his own players take a penalty. Plus side was watching Everton who have a new game plan of give it to Grealish and see what happens !

Early days yet and we wait to see what the new squad members add. Plus a few hangers on are away for the season or gone altogether so a new team spirit to cultivate !

Showed promise in one or two early games but that was it , after that went from international squad player to a complete waste of space . Perhaps clubs could include a ‘not fit for purpose clause ‘ in players contracts in future 😄
