What I see missing in that lineup is someone who can play an accurate long ball behind the defense. Maybe Davis can do it, but I'm not sure. If he is not on his "A" game I don't see Mane and Long creating problems all by themselves in the form they are right now.

We need a RB. What about Trippier? Did well for Burnley and currently not playing because of Walker.

James Ward-Prowse's list of indisputable, unimprovable weaknesses
Leo_ARG replied to ScepticalStan's topic in The Saints
Agreed. I also like his positioning and awareness for a young player. He can play in multiple position. He is a very useful player. I don't understand why some players get so much hate when they don't deserve it, while others are never mentioned when they have a poor game. Others just never get enough credit for what they do. I know he is the captain and and leader of the team, but Fonte has been poor this year and nobody says it. Steven Davis gets too much credit, even when he was one the best last match, people rave about him but he is just ahead of JWP on the development curve. JWP will be much better than Davis in a couple of years. Davis is a player that does everything Okay but doesen't excel at anything. Mane has been poor too, and it hasen't been noted. Too selfish, dosen't look for the open man enough, and he isn't tracking back at the defense as he did last year. His head seems to be at Man U right now. In the other hand, Tadic has been one of the best players this year but he rarely he gets the praise he deserves. The last game he was pressuring the opposition more than Mane. Even doing some marking. I think he got RK message of being more involved defensively. Unlike Mane, he always does something productive when the ball is on his feet. -
You mean Tadic right? Mane has been horrible after the goal. He is too selfish. And that is why his teammates are not passing it to him, giving the ball to Tadic every time.Tadic is the only one who showed up today. Maybe with Bertrand. The others were terrible. Even VVD was poor today. Also, how many great saves has Stek made all season?

I just don't get Koeman. Never will. He insists on playing both Davis and JWP, they are basically the same player. It's one or the other. If you want to rest Tadic, put Juanmi in and see what he can do. The Yoshida at RB experiment should be over but you never know with RK...
-
Just realized Gaston is not even in the bench Juanmi maybe? It's time to bring in someone who can link up Pelle, play both off him and for him in the middle. That's the missing piece of the puzzle for this team.
-
Perfect game to play Gaston to have a cutting edge. Davis not suited for this kind of games, he is more effective against bigger clubs. He or JWP should come off.
-
Agreed. I love Tadic, he is a joy to watch. I hope he stays forever at the club. Even when not in his best form he can create something, and that's vital when you don't play with a classic no 10/playmaker. -- I see Jay as a replacement for Pelle. To me, he is clearly more of a striker than a winger.
-
It was really hard but I choose Mane as MOTM. A thorn in the side, baby! Pelle was excellent. All the 4 at the back were superb. VVD won everything in the air and Cedric was tackling their players so easily that he made them look like they were from League 2! And to celebrate, here is Tadic just toying with Ivanovic who ends in his arse. https://vine.co/v/e2a0lBL3Apq

I was wondering if my eyes were decieving me! Delighted to tie because it was fully deserved. Had to pinch myself when I saw it was Davis scoring. Mane, what a game by the lad! What a pass to Bertrand, that should have been a goal. Great stuff from Sadio! The tandem Cedric-Fonte has been really solid, good job against crafty Hazard. Oh, and yes... YOU ARE NOT FIT TO, YOU ARE NOT FIT TO REFEREE What a clown this ref FFS!

MSNBC Sports stream not working anymore. Maybe USA VPN is now required?

Agreed. This is the perfect game to rest Pelle. I'd like to see Long as a striker to play balls behind the defense. He is not a winger. I'm not convinced Jay is one either. Mane and Long could exploit their lack of pace.
-
Tadic did Okay, but I'd have to go with Pelle, the most consistent performer so far.
-
Van Dijk the best player by far today. The rest was either good or just Okay. Credit to RK, when I saw the Wanyama-Davis duo as holding midfielders I went "Oh here we go again", but they responded well. Especially Wanyama, that was his best game so far. Excellent first half for him. The whole defense looked better thanks to Betrand's return. Just the calmness he brings, the outlet passes, his presence out there made everyone better. Cedric had his best game as a Saint. Overall, we could have been better, but Swansea is such a great team. The only weak point on them is the fullbacks and Tadic and Mane exploited that weakness well. Good team win. Now let's build on this.
-
I have the game. Yesterday scored with Tadic and heard the chants: Uohh Uhoo Du-Saaaan Taaa-diiic. Very nice! I Didn't score with Pelle but I have read there is a chant for him also (never heard of it so I can't recognize it either, how does it go btw?). According to some in twitter the Mighty Wanyama song is there, and There is only one RK too, plus the classics COYR and OWTS.
-
That's the best I've seen from Pelle like, ever. And Targett has been surprinsgly solid and looked calm out ther. Both full backs doing great, no so much the CBs. I'm happy to see Davis on the bench, where he belongs, and Romeu back in. Gotta give credit to RK on this one. Good idea to exploit the lack of height of Manu U at the back. Also, Putting Yoshi against Depay is a good move since Memphis doesen't really have a left foot, so when he cuts in he meets Yoshida's strong foot. Unlucky to concede, I'm pleased so far. Fonte and VVD getting to know each other still maybe? Not very good covering there. They are giving Martial too much time and space, he needs to be marked more tightly.

Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Norwich City
Leo_ARG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Romeu and Tadic the best out there. Romeu seems to have great positioning, strenght, accurate passing and intelligence to distribute. Hope he keeps that up against stronger opposition. Tadic just toyed around with their LB, superb stuff. I don't know why RK has such a short leash for him, have confidence in the lad! It will be very interesting to see how Clasie fits in. Could be very good with Romeu. Enjoy Tadic's magic here https://vine.co/v/eI6z2inATti . --> If this doesen't embed here is the link https://vine.co/v/eI6z2inATti Mane did everything right in the second half but wasen't as sharp in the first. He got better as the game went on and was perfect in the second. And you have to value his attitude, compared to you know who... -
Wuoohh Wuohhh Dusaaan Taadiiic. Love those chants! Great job by him. Funny how he is always yelling at Targett's for his poor touches and bad decisions. I'm starting to really really like Romeu. And JWP, decent. The free-kick should have been a goal. Amazing save by their keeper. Mane does have an assist but he is a bit off today. Maybe that will get him going. Also Yoshida seems to be lacking confidence, he is much better than this.

QUOTE=van Hanegem;2243498]Usually the influence of a coach on his team is highly overrated but in this case Koeman deserves the full blame for this defeat against some very mediocre hard working Danes. His selection, his tactics, his failing to change the team at half time, he got it all wrong. He used this tactics with Feyenoord a few times against better opponents when there were problems with the defence. To play this system when you know you have to score to a mediocre opponent is sheer cowardice. The only good thing to come out of it is that he will think twice before he does it again... The thing that worries me most is the lack of intelligence and creativity. JWP, Davis, JRod, Wanyama, and so on work hard but lack the brains that every team need. Clasie is not the midfielder who's going to change that, he's able to deliver some great passing but he's not the playmaker the Saints desperately need. So much millions to spend and no brains in the team, that is really shamefull for a Dutch coach... You nailed it, sir. I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees the need for a playmaker. Too many players running behind the defense or laying in the area, no one to actually put an accurate pass in there. We need someone who can put a shift when it's needed and go for a one-two quickly when is needed, with the vision to switch the ball to the other flank, and of course, give a killer pass. Too many runners, too many finishers, no set-up man. Everything you said is spot-on, this one is on Koeman and his negative hoof-hoof-tactics.
-
I wonder that does S Davis do to be out there every single time. He wouldn't start in any other Prem side. At least JWP has some potential. An the 5 at the back well... just stupid by RK once again. Yoshida and Targett trying to hook up for a cross there was so painfull to watch.

Telegraph reckon we are interested in Andros Townsend
Leo_ARG replied to adrian lord's topic in The Saints
He is inconsistent. I'm not convinced. There is a reason why the would unload him. He is not better than Tadic, BTW. But surely better than say... Ellia. We have enough pace. What we need in the offense is a player who thinks and creates attack, organizes the build up and one who can give a killer pass, not another dribbler. Players like Juan Mata. That's what we lack. Too many players running with the ball or getting behind the defense, but no one to actually put a pass in there. -

Not what we need. Would be a waste. -
If you play for a point against Watford I guess you play not to lose by more than 3 goals against the likes of Chelsea, right? Come on! That was unacceptable.
-
Not surprised to see the lack of passing. This formation was created for the long ball for the Pelle flickfor Mane, or the long ball for Mane behind the defense, and now he is hurt, so... now what, RK? As I said before the game Davis is not the player needed. He had two counter-attacks and totally rushed the play with passes straight to the opposition both times. Tadic or JWP are better suited for the attacking midfielder who can create something. I mean... anything, someone, please! I wouldn't be a bad idea to bring someone else who can create and set-up an attack, the type of player Fabregas, Mata, Ozil and Cazorla are. Not saying of that caliber, I mean the type. Someone who has a clue of how football is supossed to be played. Horrible... by both sides.
