I said before the Italy game that Sterling should not play from the start but to be used as a shock tactic with his pace. Each game his energy has been wasted early in the match. We didnt play with the energy or freedom we had in the first game. It seems to me our media and our players get it in their head that Pirlo, Balotelli and Suarezs of the world are so frightening that we just give them freedom. Why did we not kick Suarez in the air in the first 15 minutes? they would had it been our star player.

but he's not quality IMo. He is lightweight and hardly prolific. As i recall he was dire at the start of the season. Didnt he also collapse in the dressing rooms at halftime in one game?

you are top class at mocking CB , what were your words when somebody had a go at yo for your opinions .Something about your right to a view and shouldn't be slapped down. I can't be a##### to go and look but you got all precious. As for AL head turned by Gerrard, I agree AL would have had thoughts about other clubs but having Gerrard in your ear encouraging you can make you jump. Had Gerrard been negative I suspect it would make AL less likely to leave. I am sure we have all tapped up players from other clubs to join us in our own sporting world, not professional of course but a word in the ear does make a difference

Take the money

Hopefully his scarf is not too worn to be put out on the club shop shelf for sale again

seems the charm offensive will be now the order of the day.

we have a few grudge games, well the fans will Harry, MP, and Liverpool

is our football suited to Hernandez style of play?

thats the sad thing of all this, the pride that we were mainly an English team/squad is potentially going to be swept away in a matter of weeks.

he is at the top of his game now, we have had the best of him IMo and let us use the money to help strengthen our club. I will wave him goodbye and wish him well, but I have a feeling he will be like Mick Channon, not quite fitting in at the top table and not finding his form again til he came home. AL undoubtably has great feet and mind, but it drives me mad that a footballer with a 15m pricetag can hardly kick a ball at pace, let alone head the damned thing

Lol, of course the players who went quiet about a week ago are now going to rebel in. There's no way in the world that the club have given them the go ahead. If the 3 stay then I will be happy to be wrong although Iwill be a bid disappointed if we don't sell AL for the decent fee.

Romany market, quite apt

I felt no pride of a Saints player coming on as an England player the other night. It just didn't feel right

the pictures shows how misguided the newspaper is. That man is so responsible so many of today's problems not only in our homeland

IF we he got the first goal or been ahead in the second half, then you would have seen a much different game and the passing percentages a lot different. Italy did nt have to press or take risks and so could do a lot of safe passing around the defence and midfield. There is something to build on.

I don't agree, they scored from a clever corner kick routine, it was a lottery if the shot was likely to go through all those bodies, and then a 2nd bit of bad defending. We were the most likely to win before they got the 2nd. Had they had to chase the game we would have torn them a new one

I'm sorry to say Rooney is not the man for the system we played. The pundits were right that you get 1chance and you have to take it at that level. Hodgson took off Wellbeck but should have had the bottle to take off Rooney. I don't get the hype of Wilshire. Personally I would have played AL ( not because he is at present a Saints player, although I didnt feel any pride when he came on, as he doesn't seem one of us now) instead of Sterling from the start and brought him on when the game was stretched, his energy for the last 35 or so minutes could have been devastating, I know he was the star player but we lost, had we been more measured and then hit them when the fatigue set in we may have done better. Baines had a poor game although he had little cover. All in all I still think it was the best England performance in the WC for a long time

When's the Justice for the Heysel victims campaign going to be started?

He was awful but most are , MLT was poor when he was co commentator a year or so ago

Fair points, grab attention for newspaper sales is the best reason I expect

Why the attack on the Echo Duncan. I assume they are not being very conducive to publicising your book. The Echo can only get access if the club decide they want to. I assume they will only publish player unrest after I has been made public, I doubt they are wishing to publish anything that would upset the club if they want to get back in favour. A very difficult dilemma for them Iwould think.

Bad management when you get to the final and fail to win with the team you have at your disposal. It can happen to everyone of course
-
I do find it disrespectful for the club not to answer calls, but I suppose that is consistent to AL
-
runners up in the cup to mighty Wigan, I don't think that points to good management

Francis Benali at West Quay Waterstones this Saturday at 11am
OldNick replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Frannie nice bloke but don't ask him to pass the book to anyone as it will end up 20feet from the intended recipient or deep into the crowd
