Was the return of Rupert the final nail in our coffin?
OldNick replied to Gordon Mockles's topic in The Saints
Amazing Blue Square League now, and that's from someone who thinks it would be good to go into administration which is more likely to propell us that way. -
boardroom upheaval got us nothing last time, and will do the same again , unless they invest big time. I believe that this season is the one with the most pain and if we survive in this league next season will be easier. The young players would have cut their teeth and a few more players will be brought in to strengthen the squad to make a bettter mix. I dont care what anyone else says in my mind those young players do care and do want to win for us and their own pride.

The debt is a fallout from moving from the Dell , but if we worried about that the Dell would never have been built as the board would have said lets not bother building the Dell this old park is ok as you never know we might get relegated one day. The ground was built as a move forward, it was easily manageable debt in the Pl and we can still pay for it now. What we need is the team to win a few games and get the crowds back through the turnstiles (although another 10k might not be enough)

I dont agree with that. I think you are being a little dewey eyed about those days when we were fighting relegation. There were loads who didnt think we would win and couldnt see where the next point was coming from. As for 'die for the cause' those young lads have spent more time at the club than a lot of fans and do want to do well . Dont fall for the 'they dont care' mantra because they do.

I think you understand fotball but I am not so sure about the finance bit

Offix I dont know why you moved to the Usa but it may have been to improve things and have a better life in comfortable surroundings. We moved to a new stadium where there was a modicum of civilisation , where the kids and women were safer and the facilities better.Of all the things we should not regret is the new stadium. I have played different sports over the years and one thing that I notice is that the kids are not interested in joining clubs/teams with old facilities. The old fashioned clubs have started to lose out to the the Hampshire/ David Lloyds of the world. Yes the Dell was superb in our memories but that didnt stop Gearge Best taking the p### or Ian Wright scoring hattricks and us taking some real beatings. It is down to the fact we got relegated due to a lot of factors at that time. The stadium is not the reason for our demise

Some of that is true to say. A free agent normally doesnt have so much leeway as they are not sittig on a comfy contract and so more ameinable in the negotiations. They also would not be in such a strong bargaining position in the relocation issue either. Yes you are right there would be a small amount of money available after Rasiak, Saga and the like were taken off the wage bill. If we had kept NP would he have been able to stomach losing all his senior players like the club has decided as the best way forward? It is a massive ask of anyone and so NP would or whoever would have a terrible time. I wanted NP to stay for the unity he provided, but as a football manager I wasnt that impressed, but it is only my opinion.

Lowe running Saints like a business- a misconception

Thanks for that, I did think in an earlier post it was dressed up better than you have and I did notice AC's quote in the Runnymead minutes about not following plan B -
This thread seems to have more balanced posts than I have seen here for a while both NickG and Greenridge hit the button as well as others. We all would be happy for RL to go but only if there was a better plan to go forward. If you took RL out of the situation how different would our position be? Ok so you might get a few hundred more at the game, perhaps a thousand but unless we started winning they would soon disappear. It seems to me the club has to budget for crowds of 12+ and cut our cloth accordingly. If we go down then 6-8k. When we have got to the position where we are not bleeding money then we can start thinking about putting money into the squad. As for the acadamy as time goes on parents will lokk at Saints and see that their son will have a better chance to get a first team chance and so may send their kid to us rather than say a PL acadamy. In turn we will become oversubscribed and we will then have the luxury of picking the best of those. It is all long term and wont help my saturday afternoon enjoyment but perhaps in 5 years it mayhave been worth while.

would those figures include us taking early payments on Theo and Bale , Jones etc. If you recall we took cutprice deals as we needed the money so badly. -

How true that is. For the first time in my life on saturday I was not concerned about the result and had it txt to me when we came out of watching Spamalot, to go through the game and not knowing the result and not worrying is a big thing for me.I dont need Nicorettes to lose the urge, its all worn me down and Ive lost a lot of passion for the club -

I dont need scripts. Your rants remind me of the ones another Gordon used to spit out on Radio Hants. LC is a fan who was part of the Wilde bunch who IMO did not watch the money rolling out of the door and did not put a stop to it.That is my gripe about his time at the club. he is not the worst culprit we have many more who have fed at the trough but they skulk around in the shadows lapping up the freebies and perks. I dont know how many times I have to say it, but Id love RL to go. Iam a fan who goes to SMs and would love to see some success but I am also in business and understand if your costs outstrip your income there is only one way you are going. So you stem the costs first and then you turn your mind to getting the custom increased. SFC and all the CCC clubs and lower are in a business that is under real pressure and unless you get a benefactor you are in trouble. 2000-fans extra will not get us far its sad to say we need 10k or more to really start to look up IMO and even then that wont be the cure. -
Thanks i didnt realise. I like him and if he could be part of the squad his combative skills and his experience up front could be a godsend.

At present it is only a rumour from the Ipswich end and so we have to wait and see if it really is correct.
-
WC I think you are being unfair and we will be glad of them as the season progresses.

The Euell one is new to me LS, I thought he was still nursing his badly dislocated shoulder

That is true. AC seems as though he has the personality to be chairman. We need the others in the boardroom to have the balls to stand and be counted if they think there is a different person able to get the finances under control and keep the bank happy. I think that they all know that whoever runs the business their hands are tied and happy to stand back in the shadows knowing RL will take the flak. Being a S/t holder I would not worry if there were incentives offered to new purchasers and in general I believe the majority of others would accept that as well. As for the comment about I watched all those kids for free last season, whilst I understand that did they not alos watch Theo and Bale for free before they were first teamers. The same for Wallace, Le Tiss Shearer? The treatment as fans is an interesting dilemna, I have never felt in all the years of going that I was ever seen as anything other than a punter who paid to watch the team , and should be grateful for it. And that was under every chairman back to the great George Reader. -

Gloating about it!!!! Passing forward a bit of info is now gloating. I will be at SMS tomorrow noght as worried as any other fan about the result, but as always i will be unable to have any control over the squad or team selection, all I can do is support who is put onto the pitch. Wednesday morning it will you be gloating that 'you told us it would be rubbish' if we lose or others talking about a good result.
-
Thats fair but as Rudi is probably off the arguement moves from the validity of ridding us of his wages against his ability. At present I dont believe he has made himself a must play memeber of the team.Although I would like to have seen him utilised a bit more wioth the young lads as i think he had the potential to helpo bring them on.
-
I think it was valid in the fact that you were throwing your arms up in disbelief that the club are desperately trying to get their finances in order. For someone who rarely tried to help in that direction to stir the pot seemed out of order. You also started by making a comment that i was happy that we were weakening the squad, which is not the case.
