When you had an international centre half the experienced Makin , Powell and a loan from a PL side that is adequate. We had many players in and out.I havent got a list of players out in the first few months of his tenure but many were midfielders and so some had to be replaced. NP did well with his 2 loan CB's and Webster in turn got the club to get RW through a lot of hard talking.

I find it amusing when fans talk about the money spent, none ever factor in the job he was given in respect of getting rid of over 20 players who were deadwood or high earners. If you lose 20 players you would obviously have to replace some on lower wages and so duck and dive and wheel and deal to replace and try and keep it to a good standard. The following season he lost 3 of the best players and also had a jinxed set of centre backs. He siad he expected a mid table finish and was heading that way, until the internatioal job came up. Thats not the point, but the club has been reckless.They have had Anderton on their books for a few seasons, he doesnt come cheap. If you are a small supplier you dont need bad debts however a small a club they are selling to.
