Another hard day at the office for Hants. Spoke to Angus Frazer who was there looking at a couple of players in his capacity as Middlesex coach. One was a Hampshire bowler but no name. Also heard that Sussex were interested in Chris Tremlett.

Hard work for the spectators in a slow grind by both sides but it looks to be nicely set up for the third day. Just to clear up team selection. Cork attended a family funeral yesterday so was not considered. Choice was between Tomlinson & Tremlett to take the final bowling place and it went to Tremlett.

MLT will not be involved. He is going back to Sky. Spoke to him on Wednesday.

For those interested, Lumb & Cork were not injured but rested. Tremlett was injured.

I was speaking to an ex Director who agreed with me that Crouch's judgement, when it came to Saints, was badly flawed but without his close season "investment" we would not have a club to support.

Correct, Boyer did not play for us in European competitions because we never qualified during the period he was with Saints.

Drew Surman was sold to Wolves to help pay the wages. He was under contract with Saints and happy to stay and help them gain promotion but understood the reason for having to move on. To sign for a Premier club cannot be bad for him though

He took up a consltancy role to report to Rod Bransgrove and the other Directors on all cricketing levels at the club. He did a stint when they were on a pre season tour of South Africa and has been at the club a few weeks recently. He told me he was to finish at the end of this month.

I have spoken to him a couple of times. Quiet but effective man. On Wednesday I met a friend at the ground who has cerebral palsy, but a bright chap. His father asked me if Duncan Fletcher was at the ground so he could sign his book which he was reading. I got a message to Duncan asking if he would sign it if I collected the same. Next thing I know he had left the dressing room, went down to where my friend was sitting near the club shop chatted and signed his book. I thanked Duncan that evening and he said he was only to pleased to do so. Dressing room have a lot of admiration for him as well.

I spoke to an ex Director last week who was pretty certain it was Crouch who paid the "pinnacle" deposit. This fits with information I was given previously about a certain account where the money came from and who the signatory of that account was. Incidently he also confirmed that some of those with past connections to SLH were looking to take a box this season. Lowe was not one of them, many will be pleased to know.

Spoke to Dimi after the game. He is fine. Slight cut behind the ear, that is all.

Riazuddin, Wood and Vince all in action again with the two umpires, John Holder and Steve Malone, both past Hampshire players officiating. I had problems with McMememy's interference in club affairs when Crouch was "in charge". However I have no problem with him attending matches in the Directors box as a guest of the club, recognising his massive positive contribution to our history. I put up the original post as I saw it as unfinished business that has now been cleared up by the link. We are now in a new era. The positives and negatives of the past have happened. Let's hope the clubs new era contains more positives than negatives. I watched yesterdays's game. I was disappointed at our overall tactics and lack of quality but with Pardew taking over now, with a little strengthening and an inprovement in our fitness levels I see this as the bottom of the curve. The only way is up in my opinion.

Ajax looked slick, passed slick and a decent team. We looked what we are, a div 1 side. Passing poor, midfield too deep for much of the game and some of our players looked unfit. That said I think Pardew has something to work with.
