I agree that Wiki can be unreliable but this particular article is supported by a host of references. Now, individually these too might be suspect, but together I think they provide a convincing case. Of course, it might all be spin on the part of Murray, but as you rightly say, he is a sportsman and most sportsmen of his profile would have some sort of publicity engine.
